It was late or early depending on your point of view about 0200 or bit after. Odina was sitting on her bed crocheting, her hook was a 6mm in royal blue, she had a full set, each in a different color. The skein of yarn she was working with both thick and extremely soft, was a mixture of crimson, silver, and midnight blue. Tionas was sitting on her shoulder head pointed down moving slightly side to side as she reached the end of the row, turned the in progress blanket around to start the next chain along the other side. She had read over her letter from Thomas who was serving on the Journeyman, He jokingly said he was constantly freezing his jellies off. So she figured her present for his birthday would be a nice thick soft blanket. Though knowing their mother she would be sending him FIVE of them in Orange and Puce, or Paisley and Lavender, or other wild combinations. They love their mom but the woman was color blind and there were times the “gifts” were eye sore colors but they would wear them. Specially for Holidays or birthdays. Odina hummed softly as she continued chain after chain on the blanket.TAGS anyone?

Helena was on rotation for evening KP duty. That meant cleaning up and helping prepare meals to put in the coolers for those working the late shifts. Then clean up. She liked these duties. Most hates them, but she loved the comraderie it created. It was like being home and helping her mom cook. Therefore that meant it was late when they all left the mess because they were all goofing off and having fun too. She stepped off the lift and made her way down the corridor whistling, forgetting people were asleep.

Odina paused as the sound of whistling from the corridor drew her attention away from her stitches. She pulled a bit extra through the current stitch and set down the blanket in progress on her bed and got to her feet walking across the room and opening her door she poked her head out and looked down the corridor then looked the other direction at seeing the Helm officer she called out softly, “Careful some might be light sleepers.” she was up mostly because she was used to short sleep sessions that and she was an insomniac. Not to the point of needing medication, she was careful and when she was feeling tired she made note to ask for help when really needed.

Helena turned in step, “Sorry.” She grinned. This deck was mostly senior and command officers. Therefore asleep. It had been a good night though. The only reason she was berthed here was because she was the chief helm officer and needed to be nearer the bridge just in case. “Marshell right?” Helena always tried to know people’s names even if she didn’t talk to them often.
Laursen, pilot
Odina nodded her head, “Come on in if you’re not tired we can talk and get to know each other bit more than in passing.” she said with a bright smile, “First name is Odina, pleasure to meet you off duty Lt. Laursen.” she kept her voice low just in case, she didn’t want folks coming opening doors and telling her to “Quiet!” or some variant of it.
Marshell, CE
Helena stopped her backwards movement, “Sure.” She walked over and geld out her hand. “Helena.” She grinned, “I’m usually more considerate. Guess I’m more energized than I realized.”
Laursen, pilot
Odina shook her hand with a friendly hand shake, “Nice you meet you,” She stepped back and made a come on in motion with her arm, “Safer talking in here than in the corridor,” Odina bit back a grin at the sight of Tionas, who had taken the time she was not watching him to tug the in progress blanket into a circular nest of sorts, her royal blue crochet hook in his jaws and his tail coiled next to him. “Make yourself at home.”

The quarters were slightly larger than hers, but still limited choices to sit. Helena took the desk chair rather than sitting on the Lt’s bed. Her brows went up at the tiny mechanical creature. “Who is that?”
Laursen, pilot
Odina walked over and sat on the edge of her bed, Tionas looked at Helena a made a soft robotic roar, “Tionas my third project in middle school that I never really gave up on.” she looked at Helena, “He is a go-fer mostly, picking up tools when I am in the middle of something or if I need a light he shines it for me so I can have both hands to keep working.” she gave a softly laugh as Tionas placed the crochet hook on the bed beside Odina. “Got a bit of humor too but he’s harmless.”
Marshell, CEO
Helena grinned, “That is very cool. He is very life like, minus the shinny metal. I bet he is super helpful too. I imagine he would make things easier when your stuck under a console or inside a duct work.” She watched the little dragon with a grin as he moved the crochet hook around.
Laursen, pilot
Odina nodded, “Yes indeed, he likes looking for things too. I hide bits and bobs and tell him to go hunting.” she laughed softly as Tionas picked up her crochet hook and fly the short distance between her bed and where Helena was seated at the desk and offered her the hook while flapping in front of her making happy ‘play with me sounds’.
Marshell, CEO
Helena grinned and held out her hand for the crochet hook. “Hello Tionas. Would you like me to hide this foe you?” She watched him. “He has a bit of a personality. Did you program him that way or an accident of upgrades?”
Laursen, pilot
Tionas dropped the hook into Helena’s hands and turned around slowly until he was facing her again, making his happy roar sound.
Odina smiled, “I wanted to give me a bit of my playfulness but I think he got more than I intended not that I am complaining, mind but he’s his own. I think is the best way to say it. I wouldn’t change anything right now.”
Marshell, CEO
While he was turning slowly Helena, ever quick, hod the hook so when he turned to face her again she held up her empty hands. “He is really very cute. I bet he helps alleviates the monotony of long space flights.”
Laursen, pilot
Tionas gave a chir-up sounding roar and flew over Helena’s shoulders to check the desk behind her for the now hidden hook, not seeing it flying up past Helena looking at the floor before dropping to the floor and scampered beneath Odina’s bed. After a few moments of searching came back out and fly up to land on Odina’s knees titling his head at Helena, the sound he made was almost like a question.
Odina smiled, “Well I don’t think I actually noticed the length of any flight unless the pilot is doing stunts for an extended period of time.” she patted Tionas’ shoulder softly, “I think he’s asking for a hint for where the hook might be.”
Marshell, CEO
Helena laughed, “Well I invented most of the stunts, but Cpt Renault would never let me get away with doing that. Besides those types of things are best saved for when needed, not showing off.”
She grinned at Tionas’ behavior and curious sounds. “It is somewhere on or around the desk.”
Laursen, pilot
Odina smiled as Tionas made a noise and then moved from her knees to her left shoulder he looked from Helena to Odina and then nosed his face into Odina’s hair and looked back at Helena as if he was saying is it in your hair? That or he was just being silly at this point since he had already inspected the desk.
Marshell, CEO
Helena chuckled. “You could make a fortune with a business for mechanical pets.” She fluffed her hair and stood moving away from the desk so Tionas could search better. “I promise it’s there.”
“So where did you join us from, Lt?”
Laursen, pilot
Odina laughed softly as Tionas launched from her shoulders and started inspecting the desk making soft noises. “I am always to make a friend for someone. I came from Tennessee. What about you?” she asked as Tionas made a trumpet-like noise and brought the hidden hook back to Helena, “You can tell him that’s enough if you don’t want to hide it again.” Odina offered with a wry grin.
Marshell, CEO
Oh that gave Helena ideas. “I’m from Iceland. Little town outside of the capitol.” Helena took the hook and twirled it in her fingers. “I can’t hide it if you are looking Tonias.” She waited for the little dragon to turn around and then she slipped it into the braid of her hair. “Okay, go find it.”
