R’han glanced over at the tricorder as he tapped his comm badge, =-^=Ceres, you are about to be hit by 7 or more hostiles, they are 10 seconds out from the Northwest.=^=

R’han gestured to the medical officer requested his come with him. “Fall back and to the East, I’ll swing around from the South West, we’ll hit them with a double pincer maneuver… I’ll be in position in 2 minutes.... be ready.=^=

R’han

Konral looked at his phaser, then up at R’han, “Ready when you are.” he said as he felt his blood pumping.

Vander, CoS

Ceres was in sight but didn’t respond to the hail, it was obvious he had heard though because his hands started to talk to the people around him and he surreptitiously started putting the escape pod at his back. He was allowing himself to be bait and was going to ambush the ambush when it happened.

Suddenly purple tentacled things with impossibly large eyes started to swarm over and around the pod. Four of the tentacles were used for mobility, the other four all had various sharp objects in their grasp and were preparing to use them…

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist (GMT)

“They didn’t get in position.” R’han commented to the men around him. Proper tactics would have him continue with the plan as described, but they few officers were in a bad position and the time it would take to get where they needed to be could be the death of Ceres and the engineers.

“Swing out wide with me, but for the most part we are going straight in. Be silent until we start shooting, then make as much noise as possible… maybe the surprise will be the determining factor.”

R’han

Seconds later the seven tentacled beings attacked, Ceres and his team went down in a flurry of tentacled arms but then a shout went up from the left and from the med tech as four other Counter Strike Operatives started a run… straight for the Guardian of Forever. The attack had been a feint, the other team was going for their primary objective and if they got through they would unmake the advantage the Athena Time Team was attempting to create…

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist (GMT)

OOC: is it really a faint if worked?
OOC You have a point, but I really wanted to use that word :-)

R’han was only slightly torn, the engineering team would be over run and possibly killed if he didn’t attempt to rescue them, but that was the price that had to be paid....

“Turn it around.” R’han didn’t like to react to the enemies actions but now he was force. “Hit the hostiles going for the Guardian.” He would hit them from the rear. If his postulate was correct, the Guardian team would rectify the time line and the officers that were about to die would return to health… or they would all die anyways.

Rhan

Konral nodded, letting his fire coordinate and pint down the enemy as much as he could. He wasn’t sure what was going to take but he had to put fire down to make a dent.

Vander, CoS

The chase was on and Ceres and his team were understandably forgotten in the desperation of making sure that the Aliens did not make it to the gate. The four of them were tearing through the edge of the triage centre intent upon their goal heedless to all but the need to get through that portal. One went down in a cross fire of phasers hampered by the surrounding patients. However the remaining three were dextrous and fast, they were starting to pull away.

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist (GMT)

Horace stepped out from the rocky ledge he had been sheltering behind to open fire. He was not the last line of defense since a single point was not a line. Instead he was in the way of the aliens he clouldn’t stop them but he could slow them down. There were a lot of crew in the way. Injured scared, mostly helpless crew. Horace was none of the above just old. “Its what Belle would have expected” There were three remaining. He focused on one and moved sideways to stay inbetween them and the Gaurdian.

MCPO Horace Harkness Chief of the Boat

‘What the hell,’ R’han thought as he saw a single officer stand moving out from his covered position to ‘block’ the hostiles from over running the Guardian. It was suicidal as much it was brave and foolish. It was almost as if he was trying to slow them down by making them shoot at him.

History, ironically, implied the Guardian itself was invulnerable to almost everything as it existed seemingly from the beginning of time. =^=Can you use the fuel cells of the escape pods to but a barrier of fire about the Guardian… Any points respond.=^= R’han was running, shooting, and speaking at the same time. Usually such tactics were counter productive. =^=Light the area immediately around the Guardian up…=6+

R’han

Amazingly it was Ceres who responded. Those that had attacked his party had quickly bolted in another direction intent now on getting to the Guardian at all costs.

=/\= Can’t do it sir, too many personnel are clustered around the Guardian, we can’t evacuate them in time, if we light it up. we light them up as well =/\=

It was a risk. There were times in military engagements where people ordered fire onto themselves to break up an attack. They were no safer being over-run by the squids, then being hit by fire. But only one option left the Federation in control of the Guardian. -^=That wasn’t a suggestion Mr. Ceres. Light it up.=^=

=^=All hands we are launching a focused flame attack in the immediate area about the Obelisk. Seek cover, Now.=^=

One of the remaining three barrelled into Harkness and they both went down in a table of legs and tentacles. The thing was at this point just trying to get free but up close it was rank, slippery and totally annoyed at this thing it was tangled with. Bulging purple tinged eyes were staring him right in the face on either side of a cruel looking beak.

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist (GMT)

R’han had a good shot at the tentacled creature, but with all the hand to had combat the target came and went. With a finger he re-set his phaser to heavy stun and shot at the squid with a long burst. Best case he knocked it out, worse case he knock it out and Harkness too.

R’han

As luck would have it R’han’s shot hit the thing with a grazing hit across the head. It wasn’t out but the fight was fairer now and Harkness had a chance against it’s many tentacled attack. The other being was gone and moving through the crowd but almost as soon as it was lost in the distance a fresh wave broke over their defences and started heading towards R’han’s position.

Ceres came over the airways, =/\= We’re ready to launch, by your command sir =/\=

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist (GMT)

“Buckle up R’han, sounds like this is gonna get interesting.” Konral said, defending his back as he helped pressed the assault.

Vander, CoS

=^=Wait let the second wave get closer.=^= R’han was about to call a lot of pain right on himself. If was going to take such a risk he was going to make as many of the enemy share it with him. “Get to cover,” He gestured to the men and women around him. He moved more slowly, trying to imply that there was nothing to worry about.

Zoi came out of nowhere with a phaser rifle in hand and took a position behind some rocks. Her hand had become steady in the few minutes it had taken her to rejoin her department. The visions, though leaving her a bit mentally shaken, could not keep her from her job. The feel of the rifle in her hand was calming and soothing. This was cold steel and with it in her hand, she could be just as cold. These creatures were not going to survive.

=^=Wait.=^= He said again as he continued to move towards a little outcropping of rocks that he spotted. He would have to worm himself into the slight cover that he saw, but that would only be partial cover.

^= Okay, Ceres… light it up.=^=

R’han CTO

She carefully aimed and steadied herself on the rock, making a few adjustments to the gun with a calculating demeanor that could only come from a hardened soldier. Then, on R’Han’s order, she fired.

Delaney, Sec

Ceres didn’t even reply but the blast off could be heard for miles, the man was not being subtle this time around and the pod flew at near parallel to the ground only thirty feet up. A veritable hail of phaser fire streaked across the blood strewn ground. People had abandoned the stun setting and limbs of the enemy were flying, but even with all this still some were getting through and one was all they needed. They were coming now in fours, three in front taking fire and one behind heading to get past…

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist (GMT)

Well this was a fine mess he had ended up in. He knew what he had done the moment he had stepped out. Here was something that needed to be done, so it was a things that he had done. With a rictus grin as they tangled, Horace groaned out. “This is gonna hurt bad!” Just as he triggered the Phaser rifle between them, attempting to use the blast to separate them.

Master Chief Petty Officer Horace Harkness, Chief of the Boat

R’han watched Harknees for a moment… it was unlikely that that would be the last high risk behavior that R’han would see from the Federation this day.

R’han was not much for self-sacrifice although it was looking more and more like that was becoming a likelihood. On the other hand he was logical enough to understand if he was going to die anyway he might as well die for something, and for the possibility that others might live instead of quivering like a coward.

=^=Prepare to engage at point blank range. Hold to the last…=^= R’han stood and opened fire. Statistics indicated that people were more courageous when their leaders shared the risk. Ironically, they were more cowardly when their leaders fell taking those risks, so it would behoove the tactical situation if R’han survived… something he was okay with.

R’han

“R’han, we are gonna make it… just focus the fire. We got this…” Konral said, knowing this could be the last.

Vander, CoS

Phaser’s were blasting, necrotic blood was flying in all directions and hand to hand was being hampered by being outnumbered in the appendages department. However the numbers were on the side of the Federation and for every person who went down or was blinded there were more rushing out from the central mass to support the beleaguered security officers. Even children were picking up phasers discarded by the blinded and entering the fight. They were all caught between fire and blood and they all fought with a conviction that what they fought for was worth it.

Suddenly, it was over, no more were coming. Only a few of the enemy had got through, Harkness lay dazed with phaser burns a dead weight upon his chest. R’han was still standing but could feel the blood eating into him, slowed only by the strength of his own blood. Vander had a sharp piece of metal rammed into his right shoulder that grated as he moved causing intense pain. Ceres came clambering over the hill ignoring a dislocated wrist and multiple contusions.

“Reporting” he said with a grimace as he looked around at the carnage.

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist (GMT)

“You are one of the few. Rally who you can, and reform the line, I’ll hurry medical along after we clean up the ones who broke through.” R’han took a moment to use a torn swatch of cloth to wipe away some of the blood that wasn’t his as he took a visual accounting of the limbs he continued to possess. He nodded towards the Guardian, the direction he would head first. He would start there and clean out the octopii as he moved out in concentric circles.

=^=Medical your assistance is needed… everywhere. Triage as you deem appropriate, but start on the main line.=^=
