Isabel came out of nowhere with a phaser rifle in hand and took a position behind some rocks. Her hand had become steady in the few minutes it had taken her to rejoin her department. The visions, though leaving her a bit mentally shaken, could not keep her from her job. The feel of the rifle in her hand was calming and soothing. This was cold steel and with it in her hand, she could be just as cold. These creatures were not going to survive.

=^=Wait.=^= He said again as he continued to move towards a little outcropping of rocks that he spotted. He would have to worm himself into the slight cover that he saw, but that would only be partial cover.

^= Okay, Ceres… light it up.=^=

R’han CTO

She carefully aimed and steadied herself on the rock, making a few adjustments to the gun with a calculating demeanor that could only come from a hardened soldier. Then, on R’Han’s order, she fired.

Delaney, Sec

Ceres didn’t even reply but the blast off could be heard for miles, the man was not being subtle this time around and the pod flew at near parallel to the ground only thirty feet up. A veritable hail of phaser fire streaked across the blood strewn ground. People had abandoned the stun setting and limbs of the enemy were flying, but even with all this still some were getting through and one was all they needed. They were coming now in fours, three in front taking fire and one behind heading to get past…

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist (GMT)

Well this was a fine mess he had ended up in. He knew what he had done the moment he had stepped out. Here was something that needed to be done, so it was a things that he had done. With a rictus grin as they tangled, Horace groaned out. “This is gonna hurt bad!” Just as he triggered the Phaser rifle between them, attempting to use the blast to separate them.

Master Chief Petty Officer Horace Harkness, Chief of the Boat

R’han watched Harknees for a moment… it was unlikely that that would be the last high risk behavior that R’han would see from the Federation this day.

R’han was not much for self-sacrifice although it was looking more and more like that was becoming a likelihood. On the other hand he was logical enough to understand if he was going to die anyway he might as well die for something, and for the possibility that others might live instead of quivering like a coward.

=^=Prepare to engage at point blank range. Hold to the last…=^= R’han stood and opened fire. Statistics indicated that people were more courageous when their leaders shared the risk. Ironically, they were more cowardly when their leaders fell taking those risks, so it would behoove the tactical situation if R’han survived… something he was okay with.

R’han

“R’han, we are gonna make it… just focus the fire. We got this…” Konral said, knowing this could be the last.

Vander, CoS

Phaser’s were blasting, necrotic blood was flying in all directions and hand to hand was being hampered by being outnumbered in the appendages department. However the numbers were on the side of the Federation and for every person who went down or was blinded there were more rushing out from the central mass to support the beleaguered security officers. Even children were picking up phasers discarded by the blinded and entering the fight. They were all caught between fire and blood and they all fought with a conviction that what they fought for was worth it.

Suddenly, it was over, no more were coming. Only a few of the enemy had got through, Harkness lay dazed with phaser burns a dead weight upon his chest. R’han was still standing but could feel the blood eating into him, slowed only by the strength of his own blood. Vander had a sharp piece of metal rammed into his right shoulder that grated as he moved causing intense pain. Ceres came clambering over the hill ignoring a dislocated wrist and multiple contusions.

“Reporting” he said with a grimace as he looked around at the carnage.

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist (GMT)

“You are one of the few. Rally who you can, and reform the line, I’ll hurry medical along after we clean up the ones who broke through.” R’han took a moment to use a torn swatch of cloth to wipe away some of the blood that wasn’t his as he took a visual accounting of the limbs he continued to possess. He nodded towards the Guardian, the direction he would head first. He would start there and clean out the octopii as he moved out in concentric circles.

=^=Medical your assistance is needed… everywhere. Triage as you deem appropriate, but start on the main line.=^=

Izzy stopped shooting as soon as there was no more movement from the enemy. Carefully, she scanned the surrounding area, wanting to be sure the firefight was over, even if it wasn’t entirely finished. IT was the smell that hit her first, oddly familiar. Was that something burning? Slightly chemically in scent and… She looked down. Smoke drifted from her uniform jacket as caustic blood ate through the fabric without end. She let out a little shriek of surprise and quickly unzipped it and threw it aside. She checked her rifle next to make sure it was safe, then her phaser on her belt and the rest of her person. Satisfied she was safe from the substance, she turned to begin helping, finding her boss with a piece of shrapnel sticking out of his right shoulder.

“Lt. Vander!” Izzy stepped forward and began looking at the wound. “How did you let this happen?”

Delaney, Sec

“Let this happen? You make it sound like I could just ask them to stop the attack and they would.” he said as he came over to her, checking the wound himself. “Besides you’re fine it seems, we will need to check at triage but we can bandage you up the bit that was hit.” Konral said as he looked back at R’Han as they set up for the next press.

There was a huge inrush of air and a dull thud as the pod lit up the area around the Guardian. The plume of fire and smoke were impressive.

Ceres spat on the ground, “Take that Squidees” he said with venom and stalked off to rally the survivors and reform the line.

With a groan, and what was left of the energy he had, Horace rolled the Octopi off of him. It smelled like his wife’s cooking. She was not a good cook either. It had protected him from the plasma blast for the most part as well. He was suffering from multiple burns and other injuries, but was alive. Plug ugly, old, beaten, but alive….That was Starfleet in action. He could not summon the energy to get up as of yet, but the crew was rallying, and it seemed the enemy had been beaten back for a moment. That was as good as the day might get.

Master Chief Petty Officer Horace Harkness, Chief of the Boat

Ceres’ asian features were contorted with rage as he saw the carnage around him and he angrily brushed away a tear of frustration as he saw the dead bodies of friends. He had a rifle over his back and a phaser pistol in each hand as he coordinated getting the able to help the wounded to the triage area. Suddenly he looked off into the distance intently.

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist (GMT)

(OOC: sorry. Waiting on Steven)

“We don’t have time to wait for long, we get people to safety then we are going to need to regroup.”

Vander, COS

R’han returned to the main line in a few minutes. “You would think that there would be more of them within our lines.” He almost shrugged in confusion. “You did well.” He said to any officer who made eye contact with him. He nodded for a moment and then spoke louder. “You all did well.”

He walked along the line, “Every two meters, set up rocks and shallow trenches, they may come back and we need to make it as tough as possible. Protect yourself, hold the line.” Not necessary in that order, but when the time came he would have to clarify.

R’han

Ceres motioned to his commanding officers while still intently looking into the distance. “Sirs, I think you should come and look at this”

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist (GMT)

“I’m not certain I want to see it.” R’han commented under his breath. No one in the history of the world said ‘come look at this’ and this was something good. It was never cake and cookies…

Despite his trepidation he walked over to the area Ceres gestured towards… “What is it?”

R’han

Ceres was looking outward from their position at the dead bodies of some of the Counter Strike aliens. A large wall of shimmering energy was surrounding the Guardian of Forever in a huge bubble that touched the earth not more than 400 metres from their position… and it was shrinking inwards. Outside of the bubble through the shimmering haze of coruscating energy a city was seemingly erupting from the ground as the time nexus rewrote history past, present and future. Instead of dead aliens lying on the ground, whole communities of them roamed the streets of a metropolis that had never but had always existed on the planet of the Guardian of Forever.

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist (GMT)

“I guess this means we killed the original natives of this planet. Perhaps we will all be fortunate and this would have never happened.” He watched the story for a moment. “Grab a tricorder, lets see if we can record this and figure out what this means before it become permanent or changes suddenly.”

R’han

Ceres was looking at the evolving scene with something akin to sick fascination when suddenly Michail hove to out of the gloom coming from the direction of the gate.

“Best we start to move back towards the gate” he said emphatically. “The Guardian has been broken and at this point we’ve got no idea what will happen if it can’t be fixed”. Michail watched the city springing up as the barrier moved towards them and made some entries into a wrist device. A 3D hologram sprang up showing the energy barrier. “I give it 2 hours tops before we’ve got nowhere to go”.

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist (GMT)

“So if the Guardian is broken, why is it a good idea to get closer to the gate.”

Konral put his rifle around his shoulder, checking his pistol and tricorder he pulled it out. His telepathicnature could help guide but he wanted all the details he could get.

Vander, COS

“If its a gate why can’t we just use it to escape prior to its destruction.”

R’han

Michail looked at them both and decided to be candid. “The energy bubble is a localised time pocket. Once it passes you, you’re going to cease to exist, ergo we need to stay ahead of it and get to the Guardian before we get “written out”, we can’t use it to escape while it’s broken, it must be fixed first.” With a smile and a toss of his Greek dark curls he started to assist Ceres with getting the wounded up and moving.

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist (GMT
OOC Where I put “gate” I should have said Guardian. Been watching too many SG1 reruns :-)

OOC: On the other had its one of the most classified objects in the Federations so misnomers are likely

Isabel’s eyes went wide and instinctively, she took a step back from the bubble. There were many things in her past she would rather not remember, maybe even not have ever done, but she didn’t want to cease to exist. She pulled out her tricorder and scanned the bubble but began cautiously to move away from it. “I am with him. I suggest we get moving, sirs.”

Delaney, Sec

“We have injured everwhere and a enemy that was forced back but not defeated. A disorganized retreat is almost as dangerous as staying here.”

He tapped his comm badges =^=Everyone collect the wounded we are moving out, everyone must move or be erased from existance.=^= He looked back at delaney “Almost as dangerous.”

R’han

Isabel looked over to R’han as he gave the order for retreat. His words as he looked at her had her confused about his meaning. Was he just repeating Michail, or was he referring to her in some way? She gave him a brief puzzled look.

Michail pitched in and Ceres was as indomitable as ever as they pitched in to moved everyone back through the Triage area and onwards towards the Guardian. The Time Nexus continued it’s slow and inexorable shrinking rewriting all in its path.

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist (GMT)

“Alright you heard him come on.” Konral said, he began helping those up and moving as fast as he could, aiding the wounded along the way.

Vander, COS

She was quickly distracted away from R’han by Konral encouraging everyone to get to work. She turned and began helping wounded to their feet as gingerly as she could within the confines of time. Izzy was a strong woman and could easily help with people much bigger than her small frame. She helped a limping man to his feet and acted as his anchor as he limped hurriedly but carefully away from the bubble.

Delaney, Sec

R’han had the advantage of his alien biology and hefted the largest diabled person over his shoulder, into the fireman’s carry. Somehow leaving an arm free for a phaser or tricorder… in this moment his was using the tricorder. Looking for hostiles that might close in on their column of wounded personnel.

Michail heard a beep coming from his wrist device, looking at it he smiled widely, “Let’s get to the gate people, it’s turning into a beautiful day”.

Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist (GMT)

Konral came up behind them as he pulled the rest of the group to the gate.

Vander, CoS
