Yes, Orvos had beamed into his own office to have a meeting with his former self. Yes, he had messaged his former self to let him know that he had indeed used the transporters to beam himself into his own office. And yes, he did in fact not tell his former self that it was actually himself that he would be speaking to.
So it came as a surprise that his past self was surprised to see himself in his own office. “What is going on?” his past self sternly asked. As far as he was concerned, he was indeed the one in charge of engineering and he could get security in a moment’s notice.
“I’m you,” he said rather pointedly. “Well, not quite you. I’m a different you.”
His past self was certainly cautious but was not surprised. He did not expect such an occurence to be difficult for himself to believe. But how it happened would be another story. “Can you perhaps explain?” his past self asked.
Orvos nodded with a sigh, looking out into engineering from his office window. “Long story short. We lost the Athena first time around. Chroniton weapon blew straight through her. All hands abandoned ship to the surface of the world holding the Guardian of Forever. After stopping a particular agent from using the Guardian to destroy us, we decided to use it and rectify the past.”
Past Orvos nodded understanding. “And now two Orvoses can’t live in the present?” he wondered aloud.
Orvos nodded turning to face his former self. “The captain has a device that should meld the both of us together, but the real question is deciding which of us will remain, and which will disappear, sharing simply in memories.”
Past Orvos considered what they would do. “Are you sure that we would share the same memories? I could recall anything you had gone through?”
“I’m not totally sure how it all works,” he said thoughtfully. “Just that one body will remain.”
For the moment, the two pondered what they would do, neither wanting to state what he was thinking.
