Karina looked up and down the corridor. There were a few people in the halls of the Athena. Some looked haggard and worn, others were freshly pressed and still confused looking. She couldn’t imagine how many had suffered on the surface and wished to forget it. Yet many would want to remember so it didn’t happen again. Karina had chosen to remember. To allow her original self to remain while the one who had ‘never left the ship’ got swallowed into the timeline and go on… well, wherever she ended up.

Despite her uniform looking like it had been through a Klingon rite of passage, she moved down the hall towards the turbo lifts. She wanted to know, no, needed to know, if the Grey from the surface or the Grey from the ship had been the survivor. Outside his quarters she tried to smooth the front of her tunic to no avail. A hand rose to brush back her hair but she guessed that didn’t do much good either. She then took a deep breath and ran her hand over the chime. She would just make sure he was all right, then retreat to her room. Her other self had placed a healing patch on her right arm where the acid had burned her uniform and her skin. She looked like hell but all that mattered was making sure Grey was still her Grey. Well… not ‘her’ Grey… the thought made her feel ridiculously foolish. “Get a grip, Ri… he’s your supervisor. Just see he’s all right and duck away,” she murmured as she waited to see if he was there.

Ens. Karina Niles
Doctor

There wasn’t an immediate response, after a few moments Ben’s voice called out “Moment” And a little while later the door swished open. Benjamin was no longer wearing his dirty and ripped uniform. He had changed to a loose fitting shirt tucked into dark jeans, he was holding an unmarked glass bottle filled with blue liquid. His hair was clean but uncombed, he’d clearly just finished a sonic shower and gotten dressed. He looked down at the doctor and half-smiled in a polite yet confused manner “Doctor Niles?” He shrugged “Well come on in then.”Turning around and heading towards his Sofa and sitting down, pouring from his bottle into a glass “Drink?”

Ben Grey - CMO

When Grey opened the door, the true level of her foolishness smacked her like a comet. “I… Yes… Thank you, sir.” She stepped in and glanced around his quarters. It dawned on her she’d never been there before. And now she remembered why… She never had a reason. As he offered the drink, she glanced back at him. “I’m sorry, Chief. I didn’t mean to interrupt. I guess my curiosity got the best of me.” She tried to laugh but it was nervous. “I guess I was wondering which of ‘you’ I would be working with tomorrow.”

Hey hand rose up to brush loose stands back again. Realizing she was failing, she quickly pulled out the braid and made a single ponytail. It helped a bit with the haggard appearance. “I don’t think I’m dressed for drinks, sir.” She also realized, looking around, that she’d probably get dust and grime over anything she sat on. She fought the urge to brush off her tunic with the thought it would make it worse, or merely cover his carpet instead of the furniture.

You’re an idiot, Karina! Her mind chided her again. Way to impress the boss.

Karina
Doctor
(And ridiculously foolish woman)

Ben poured into both glasses, sliding one across the table and grabbing the other, downing the drink quickly before gently putting it down again “No lass, yer never dressed for drinking, yer either drinking or yer not” His usually suppressed and refined accent was no longer present, his highlander origin becoming more apparent. “yer boss just gave you a drink, the polite thing is to shut up and drink” He said with a half smile and poured himself another drink, this time only taking a small sip “But I digress, I am the same man who went to the surface. Both of me agreed that it was a necessary experience for us to have. I can tell you made a similar decision” He pointed at her injured arm as he crossed his legs.
