Space. The Final Frontier.Truer words had never been spoken. Amber eyes gazed through the window at the docked starship. A white tail fluffed up and wagged. Command red was the colour of the uniform that the officer wore, and the three golden pips on her collar communicated her rank. She had to put her best foot forward for her new captain. She had heard that some rather… sad circumstances had taken away the Athena’s former XO, and sincerely hoped that her time aboard the Athena would not end in the same way.
The officer glanced at a nearby clock. Ah good, she still had plenty of time before she was scheduled to board the Athena and meet Captain… Ghubari Koraia, wasn’t it? Ooh, these aliens with so many names. And the names so often did not fall within the Galdori ability to pronounce! She smiled ruefully to herself. Well, it would certainly give a wonderful first impression if she could barely pronounce the Captain’s name!
Luka silently mouthed the pronunciation. She tried out the words over and over, and prayed she had gotten it right. “Captain Koraia, it is wonderful to meet you in person. I am Commander Luka, your new XO… I look forward to working with you,” she muttered under her breath, practicing. She smiled. It was going to be fine. Just like how nervous she had been when she joined the Greyhound under Captain Shore, there was nothing to be worried about.
She grabbed a small device from the table beside her and strapped it to her wrist. The universal remote interface, or URI as it was known, was a device equipped to all Galdori in Starfleet. It contained their personal medical information - only accessible to the CMO of any ship they joined - and several other functions. For Luka, she used it as a personal assistant, storing her schedules and appointments on the device’s calendar app. The translator application was always useful in times when she struggled to find the right english word for something. Even after nine years among humans, she still found herself learning new words with startling regularity. It was as if they were making up new words all the time.
Luka sighed slightly, pulling up a photograph of her family on the screen of the URI. Mother, Father, and her two siblings, with her in the middle. Such a proud smile on Mama’s face, such a confident look on her own. Her silver and white fur stood out in comparison to her parents’ and siblings’ darker grey or tan fur. She glanced at the time again. “Lu’ne!” she exclaimed. “I’m going to be late if I keep dawdling!”
Long strides carried her in a light jog towards the docking bay, towards Captain Koraia’s ship, towards the next segment of her life. As good as the last few years of her life had been, there was still room for improvement. Hopefully this place would serve to bring her that desired improvement. Ever upwards.

OOC: I know I come into this place following a time of sorrow. I hope you guys can let me step into the giant shoes that Jeremy left and, while I won’t fill them completely, maybe I’ll be able to keep moving forward. I’ve been following the adventures of your crew ever since Beaver approached me about this position over a month ago, and I can say that I’m looking forward to interacting with all of you lovely people. I hope you guys will enjoy quirky Luka and her equally quirky author. She is an alien who looks like a canid version of the Caitians, if you were wondering. (The original ones, not the Star Trek 2009 Caitians).
I hope that this is a journey filled with growth for all of us. Thanks for letting me join your crew, Beaver. As a fellow Canadian, I hope I can make you proud.
