Luka’s next step was the Science Labs. She was aware that most xenozoology experts ended up in the Science Labs, so she brought along Mukin. The little creature was nestled in her arms, purring lightly. Luka rubbed his chin comfortingly. He was settling in well to his new home.

Luka smiled as she stepped into the science labs, glancing at the present scientists. After a brief inquiry as to the location of the CSO’s office, she quickly arrived at the desired location and pressed the chime. Now all that was left was to wait for Maddison to answer.

“How did the heating vent break?” Liam asked with annoyed expression.

In his office, his arms cradled a large and slender lizard-like creature. Its long legs dripped off his forearm with its three toed loosely attached to his clothing. The creature seemed to be enjoying itself, absorbing the heat radiated through his hand into its chin. A blue-black tongue lazily flicked out. Large, loose skin flap puffed out then sucked back. Each motion was followed by a small vibration and rattling sound.

“Well… you see,” Joseph began.

Both men were interrupted by the chime causing Joseph to smirk.

“I’ll get it and see if the engineer is done repairing the vent system,” he popped off to answer the door before Liam stop him.

Joseph paused when he spotted the XO, a little surprised and taken aback by the animalistic appearance. He couldn’t help, but stare for a moment. Liam coughed breaking the younger man from his rudeness as he flashed an apologetic grin.

Luka looked at the young ensign silently, her tail slowly waving back and forth. She tilted her head slightly, then moved off to the side slightly to allow Joseph to pass by.

“Sorry… sir,” He fell back on the generic title for the XO, “I have something to do, excuse me.”

When she moved, he quickly darted off to accomplish his task. In his wake was a very peeved and annoyed CSO.

Liam turned to Luka as he studied her appearance, both to identify her species and gender. It wasn’t his speciality so he eventually resigned his efforts. Unlike the android, the Laleri didn’t create discomfort or ill-memories. Averting his eyes from staring too long, Liam apologized for the animal in his hand.

“I apologize for the animal. One of the specimen observation tanks had their heat vent busted during an unknown incident. I’m currently keeping our solo specimen warm until it can be fixed,” His hand lifted to gesture at it.

Luka shrugged lightly. “Well, I suppose I’m no different,” she chuckled, moving her arm slightly to readjust the weight of the animal on her own arms. He was about the size of a cocker spaniel, but at first glance you might mistake him for a large rabbit. But after a few moments, it was clear this creature was no bunny rabbit. The alien animal had a defined snout similar in shape to that of a cat, eyes that faced forward for binocular vision, and the calm gaze of a predator.

The motion caused the lizard to open an eye then flicked its tongue, adjusting its position more firmly on the CSO’s arm. Its limbs dug into the uniform sleeve and into the skin. The creature’s expression seemed to dare the XO to removement it at her own risk.

“This is Mukin,” Luka spoke, glancing down at the pet in her arms. “And I’m Luka. I supposed I should probably bring him down here since… I’m not actually sure. He’s my Borkin,” she explained. “They’re like…the dogs of the Laleri,” she added. At that, Mukin lifted one of his wings slightly. His fur was not nearly so fluffy or soft as that of a rabbit, and in addition to his strong hind limbs and clawed fore limbs, he had a third set of appendages in the form of fully developed wings. They were far too small for flight, but that was a result of domestication.

Luka, XO

“You’re choosing to hold yours,” Liam pointed out, through it was not meant to be unkind. Merely a fact.

The creature moved causing him to wrinch, his lips pressed into a harder frown. It pressed its belly against his palm where the source of heat laid. A soft trill seemed to echo from his throat as he bobbed his head up then down. The small nails hooked into the fabric, the wrinkles increased from its insistence to move.

He ignored this. Instead, Liam’s eyes fall onto the Borkin when Luka explained the origin. He absorbed the information before he spoke.

“Does he has any special needs? Sickbay is better designed for crew, rather than animals, so we tend to pick up the slack when needed,” Liam gestured for her to sit down at a chair in front of his desk.
