A tall and dark stranger entered the reception area of the counselors, and while this sounded kind of like in a novel, in case of Julien there was some truth to it, he was tall, tanned and had short black curls, his medical uniform fit his broad frame snugly.

He greeted the receptionist kindly and was directed to the office of counselor Jenna Kingston.

“Come on in,” Kingston called out.

Entering her office his mismatched green eyes took it all in, looking for the counselor.

  • Julien Smith, doctor

In the modest space, the petite woman seemed to fit the cozy setting. She didn’t go to great lengths to decorate, but it was definitely more than the standard grey furniture and carpet. On the wall above the couch was an image of an ocean scene that could be almost anywhere and the standard grey slim arm chairs had been replaced with softer larger armchairs in a dark blue that looked inviting to curl up into. On top of the standard carpet, the sitting area was covered in a plush rug in different shades of blues that matched the ocean in the photo. On the other side of the room where she mostly worked, there was a tall leafy plant near her desk and a single silver photo frame on the corner of the desk where she could easily see it when she worked at the computer terminal. Overall, the place was warm but practical and uncluttered- much like Janna.

Looking up at her guest, Janna smiled as tucked some errant blond curls behind her ear. “You must be my next appointment. Julien Smith, right?”

Julien nodded. “Yes that’s me.” he said in his deep rumbling baritone. He strode over to one of the arm chairs that looked the most sturdiest and waited for her to take a seat before he sat down slowly. The cushioning of the chair flattened out and dented inwards, the chair made a complaining sound but it held. Julien generally preferred steel chairs, his added weight showed way too much in a soft arm chair like this, but there was no other choice.

Janna logged off her terminal and moved across the room, opting to sit on one side of the sofa closest to his chair. “So, here you are, Doctor Smith,” she said, reaching a hand out. “I’m Doctor Kingston, but please just call me Janna here. And unlike your Doctor title, mine is just for my last degree,” she added with a grin.

“What should I know about you?” Kingston asked, sitting back in her seat.
