Diplomatic Offices. Hmm. In another life, she might have ended up in that particular position. Luka glanced around the hall. It’s a pretty quiet day in this area of the ship, she noted as she walked towards the office assigned to one Kaylee Baxter. She pressed the chime after only a moment of hesitation.

Luka, XO

When the door swished open, Luka would find herself in a small office. There was one large desk with two chairs facing it in one corner of the space, and on the opposite wall two large armchairs pitched towards each other with a small end table placed In between.

Seated at the desk was a slender woman with blonde hair pulled back in a high and tight ponytail. Her eyes were a crystal blue and her skin a pale and creamy complexion.

As the door opened, Kaylee looked up, catching sight of the visitor. She stood, moving around the desk, a smile on her face and her hand extended.

“Well hello there!” Kaylee said warmly. “Commander Luka I presume. I’m Kaylee Baxter.”

Luka glanced at the extended hand, then dipped her head slightly in a small bow. “I’m glad to meet you, Miss Baxter,” she spoke, her hands remaining to her sides. It wasn’t that she couldn’t shake Kaylee’s hand because of cultural differences, it was just that the shape of her hand was not condusive to such physical interaction.

She lifted her hand to her chest and smiled. Her right palm rested on her chest, then extended out in a graceful motion towards Kaylee. “May your hearts beat strongly, and your love grow wide,” she spoke as she performed the action, then pulled her hand back again, folding her hands in front of herself.

As she performed the salute, it became clear. Her hand, unlike that of a human, had three fingers and a thumb. These fingers were significantly longer than those on Kaylee’s hands, slightly thicker, and covered in the same type of white fur that covered the rest of the Alien officer’s body. The pads of her hand had furless pads, which were a dark grey colour.

Luka, XO

Kaylee chuckled, looking slightly embarrassed. “Please forgive me. I don’t even know where my mind is today. I am quite familiar with the Laleri and some of your customs.”

The blonde woman bowed her head and returned the salute, then motioned towards the sitting area. “Please make yourself comfortable. Can I get you anything from the replicator?”

“Just a glass of water is fine,” Luka said, doing as Kaylee had said and making herself comfortable on one of the armchairs. She crossed on foot in front of the other like a classy person and waited for the water. When Kaylee had given her the glass of water she smiled and took a long sip of it. “I’ve found that more people on this ship seem to have heard of my people than any ship I’ve been on before,” she chuckled. “I think the only one so far who hasn’t recognized me by my species is the Captain herself!”

Kaylee smiled. “Well I am a diplomat after all, so it is best that I stay as up to date with everything that I can. I regularly review the Starfleet Intelligence reports. Plus if you knew my mother…” She let out a chuckle. “Well let’s just say she would say she knows everybody and everything there is to know about everybody.”

After a few moments, she spoke up again. “How do you find working under Captain Koraia? I’m trying to get some kind of an impression of what being a part of this crew is like and so far it has been relatively positive. I’ve noticed several of your more recent missions are highly classified… is that a trend?”

Luka, XO

getting it back on the board

Kaylee nodded. “The Captain is one of the best officers I have ever served with. When I was first on board the Athena I was ship’s Counselor and she and I formed a special bond as friends. When it was time for me to be assigned to a ship as a diplomatic officer, it was a great pleasure to be sent back here to my former ship and many of my former crew as well. As for the missions…” She let her voice tail off. “I think classified is something that goes hand in hand with the ship’s charter, wouldn’t you agree?”
