Seeing as the Chief Tactical Officer’s main place of working was on the bridge, such a meeting-place would not be suitable, so Luka settled for a different way of getting the officer and her in touch. She send R’Han a message, requesting his presence in Meeting Room #2 at a particular time. No context was given, just that the officer’s presence was requested.

Luka quietly awaited the officer’s arrival, tapping her foot to a song that had gotten stuck in her head a few hours ago. Persistent little bugger. She wondered if she should ham it up, but then decided against it. One thing that she wondered was whether the officer would be early, late, or exactly on time. Vulcans were an enigmatic race, that was for certain, so she couldn’t predict the man’s behaviour.

Luka, XO

OOC: It is not on his official record that his is a Romulan, as opposed to a Vulcan, although there are people who suspect and a few have come up with reasons why they know…

ic: “Commander,” R’han said as he entered the room. He scanned the area as a matter of habit but it was not a particulars quick or thorough review indicating that he felt safe or had pursued other means to determine that there wasn’t something strange going on. “Your request was both specific in matter of time and location, but vague in terms of topic.”

R’han

Ooc: oopsie, I’ll fix that up immediately!

Ic: Luka leaned back in her chair. “Lt. Commander,” she replied matter of factly, then grinned, getting up and stepping over to the CTO. “I’m pleased to finally meet you. I’m Luka, your new XO, I just wanted to meet everyone in senior staff and well, you didn’t have an office. Sorry about the mystery,” her tail wagged for a moment. He smelled a little strange for a vulcan, but she let it slide.

Luka, XO

“Tactical officer is a department head, without a department… ergo no office.” R’han raised an eyebrow in a stereotypical Vulcan manner. “Mysteries are temporary Commander so there is no need for an apology, and I suspected your motivation in short order. I wonder however if the making your new charges is some sort of test for you… perhaps a little counselor envy?”

R’han

“I’m of the opinion that every officer in command should know the people who serve under him or her. Even if that knowing is only brief. It is still… Helpful. I need to know who it is that I and the Captain can trust in times of crisis, Lt. Cmdr., do I not?” She asked, beginning to circle. “Otherwise, someone impersonating you could pop in and pretend to be our R’han and my poor little nose would know no better,” she chuckled, taking a deep breath and tapping her nose. She went back to her chair and sat down, relaxing. “Don’t worry, I’m not trying to take a psychological reading of you. I’m really not qualified to do that”

Luka, XO

“Commander, I doubt the people who are trained to analyze me are ‘qualified’ to do so.” R’han responded with an tone that sounded like a combination of arrogance and amusement. “Nor do I think someone would choose me to imitate. It would be far more wise to impersonate you. You have no history here, no friends and a higher rank.” He nodded to himself for a moment.

“That being said, I can say with a high degree of certainty neither of us are impostors.” R’han watched the commander take her seat with a slight head tilt.

CTO

“Certainly. But if I had never met you, how would I know in a moment of crisis,” Luka chuckled. “And I feel as though it would indeed be easier to impersonate you, a Vulcan. It is very hard to make one’s appearance look like someone of my biology,” she gestured to her oddly-shaped legs, her three-fingered hands, and her white-furred, snouted face.

Luka, XO

“Depends on who was doing the impersonating.” He examined her very closely since she gestured towards herself in an inviting manner. “I have certainly seen some individuals with more difficult features to replicate… not to mention the trick is confusing tricorders.”

“As far as my performance in crises. My service record should reveal a significantly above average response to life and death situations. I have twice had the Athena destroyed from beneath my feet. Although one was in an alternate timeline.. so I suppose I only should get partial credit for that.” He deadpanned.

R’han

“Alternate timeline…?” Luka stared at him. “When did that happen?” She glanced at her wrist, as if the device attached there would give her the answers. “I didn’t read anything about alternate timelines in the Athena’s records… is that another one of those classified things I haven’t gotten the clearance for yet…” she sighed, looking a little annoyed about it.

“Well I’m sure its in our log.” R’han paused, although the possibility existed that it was classified.

“Ah, well… So, what brought you to Starfleet, R’han?” she asked, tapping her foot against the ground. “You’re free to relax and take a seat as well.”

Luka, XO

“My family was very invested in military service and Tactical is a position that calls out to me.” He looked at her furry face. “What brought you to star-fleet and away from others of your species.”

R’han

“Curiosity, wanderlust,” she spoke simply, a small smile ticking on her face. “I’ve always had a fascination with the people outside my world. At first I was in my own world’s fleet, but a great wanderlust and desire for more discovery inspired me to apply for a transfer to Starfleet. I’ll rephrase my question, why Starfleet and not the Vulcan fleet?”

As she asked her question, she focused on the man, looking for whatever hints of expression might give away his inner thoughts.

Luka, XO

He smirked, in a very unVulcan fashion. “You would not ask that question if you had spent the first 40 years of your life on Vulcan. Not to mention the Vulcan fleet does not encourage advancement based on creativity, courage, and risk. Factors that I have in abundance and that would lead me to success more in Star-Fleet than my other options.”
