“Alternate timeline…?” Luka stared at him. “When did that happen?” She glanced at her wrist, as if the device attached there would give her the answers. “I didn’t read anything about alternate timelines in the Athena’s records… is that another one of those classified things I haven’t gotten the clearance for yet…” she sighed, looking a little annoyed about it.

“Well I’m sure its in our log.” R’han paused, although the possibility existed that it was classified.

“Ah, well… So, what brought you to Starfleet, R’han?” she asked, tapping her foot against the ground. “You’re free to relax and take a seat as well.”

Luka, XO

“My family was very invested in military service and Tactical is a position that calls out to me.” He looked at her furry face. “What brought you to star-fleet and away from others of your species.”

R’han

“Curiosity, wanderlust,” she spoke simply, a small smile ticking on her face. “I’ve always had a fascination with the people outside my world. At first I was in my own world’s fleet, but a great wanderlust and desire for more discovery inspired me to apply for a transfer to Starfleet. I’ll rephrase my question, why Starfleet and not the Vulcan fleet?”

As she asked her question, she focused on the man, looking for whatever hints of expression might give away his inner thoughts.

Luka, XO

He smirked, in a very unVulcan fashion. “You would not ask that question if you had spent the first 40 years of your life on Vulcan. Not to mention the Vulcan fleet does not encourage advancement based on creativity, courage, and risk. Factors that I have in abundance and that would lead me to success more in Star-Fleet than my other options.”

R’han CTO

Luka’s head tilted to the side. “Creativity, courage, and risk. Hah, that certainly describes the humans. I have the feeling that you are not exactly an average Vulcan,” she smiled slightly. “You haven’t sat down yet. Do you anticipate this conversation to be nearing its end, or do you simply have an aversion to chairs?”she joked, again gesturing to a nearby chair. “Another question, do you meditate and suppress your emotions?”

“Average, is an illusion to comfort those who are afraid to stand out. I do not need the comfort offered to the weak.”

R’han looked at the seat for a moment before he took it. “I was comfortable standing, but social etiquette requires me to sit along as you do, particularly since you out rank me.”

She noticed the smirk and filed it away. Her nose was sensitive, able to pick up on the small details that most people would not, and small details of his appearance, smell, and behaviour did not add up completely towards him being Vulcan. However, she was not one who was quick to judge and would reserve her conclusions until she had created a more in depth picture of the man.

Luka, XO

“No, I have no need to mediate. I find outward emotions create vulnerabilities and since my mind has determined it is risky, and my mind controls my emotions it naturally is under control. Mediation is usually a waste of time for me.”

R’han

Her certainly had… a different outlook on life. “Most Vulcans require that meditation for the suppression of their emotions,” she reflected.

“Regardless, we’ve determined your reasons for coming to Starfleet and being in Tactical. You don’t have a staff, so I can’t ask you about them. How about your department - I assume your job description is something like making sure all of our weapons fire when they’re supposed to, and such? Are there any things that you feel need to be brought to the attention of the command staff? Any problems you might face, things that could run a little more smoothly? Do you need some junior officers to help you run your department better?”

Luka, XO

“You can always promote me. My ten year plan has me reaching captain in the next three years. I am significantly behind my projections.”

“I don’t require a junior officer. However, I have no qualm about taking on one. I had one previously and it was reasonably successful. The opportunity to train a young mind and share my significant tactical knowledge would help the individual, the ship, and star-fleet.”

“Ha, that’s not my personal responsibility. In order to promote you I’d have to make you an XO, and that’s what I am!” Luka said with a small laugh. “I’ll talk to the captain and see what she thinks about getting you a Tactical JO, or maybe re-positioning one of our current officers.”

R’han tilted his head, “I’ve been on ships with more than one Full Commander.’ He said bluntly.

“I can see the two of us becoming friends in the future,” she added.

Luka, XO

“Statistically unlikely, using probability analysis and based on proximity, I have been crew mates with over four thousand officers in my career. I think of two as my friends. another four as associates of interest who I deem worthy of additional protection… who I submit may fall under a loose definition of friend, and two sexual partners. Who based on universal social mores I treat as more that just fellow officers. That gives you a 0.15% chance of being my “friend” in the next 10 years. You would increase your chance by 25% to .2% if we are sexually compatible and willing to date within the chain of command.” He tilted his head as he looked at her as if appraising her biology. Shaking his head, “It doesn’t appear that likely, however.” He blinked innocently enough.

R’han CTO

Luka blinked quietly before beginning to laugh. “Oh yes, R’han, we are most certainly going to be friends,” she stood up and stepped past his chair, patting his shoulder as she passed. “I’m sure of it,” she added with a light wink, leaving the room without bothering to answer the question of sexual compatibility.

Luka, XO

Ooc: if you’ve read her conversation with stark you’ll know the answer and the reasoning.
