The doors to the large Engineering bay slid open and the Ktarian stepped forwards, pausing on the inside slightly as he looked over the large Core with an expression that could be considered a thoughtful grin to any that glanced his way. It had been 10 years since he had last held this role on a Starship, that of the Engineering department along with the extra duties his training had allowed him to take.

His smile faltered somewhat as his mind traveled back over those 10 years in an instant, as the memories of those years came and went while he looked into the pulsing of the core. Leaving the Sabre, his first posting from the Academy for the Veracruz to fly fighters. The camaraderie that only fighter pilots knew as they sailed the stars and took risks that often had them in more trouble in an office than they would have ever been in the pilots seat.

A swirl of the core and the memory of the loss of his parents freighter to piracy, the guilt and anger of not being with them when they died. His return to the Academy and graduation to Security as he tried to pursue a reason for his choice to leave them and join Starfleet, a choice they had loved and supported. His return to the Sabre afterwards and eventual transfer to the Genesis.

Allison, the woman who had been torn from her time and dropped in his, who he had grown close to and laughed with. Shared his pain about his parents loss, something he had talked to nobody else about. Allison who had fallen into a coma and not woken up, and his reassignment back to the Veracruz against his wishes, to finally do what he had trained for and chase down the raiders that took his parents from him. To leave the woman he had grown close to for Starfleet, just like he had left his parents for Starfleet.

Rovan looked away from the core, noticing one or two crew had noticed him and he grinned, nodded and looked back to the core. They knew what it was like to walk onto a new ship and look, listen and feel the heart of the beast for the first time, and they let him get to know it. His collar now bore the pips of a junior Lieutenant, the promotion a long time coming but for one who moved around as much as Rovan had, was not something that was expected. Shiny new pips on his collar in exchange for the hollow feeling of dead raiders and a woman ripped out of time he had left lying in a hospital bed, not knowing if she would ever recover or even remember him, or want to if she woke and found him gone.

Taking a breath that moved him back into motion Rovan turned and made his way directly to the Chief Engineers Office on Deck 41. No longer looking at the core, memories pushed aside now that the expression of an Officer who had work to do took the place of the earlier grin, the dark haired Ktarian stopped in front of the Chief Engineers Office and pressed the chime. Rovan had no idea if the Chief was in his Office or going about his duties but after his introduction to the heart, it was time to find out.

Lieutenant (j.g) Rovan Moor
Engineering/Pilot

A shadowy figure appeared next to him as Rovan pressed the chime. Stark had meant to visit the man in his quarters but had taken one look at how he looked as he moved to his quarters and elected to wait until now. A man needed time with his inner thoughts.

Dark jet black Caitian eyes appraised Rovan with direct frankness. “Welcome aboard Rovan Moor, my name is Stark Nightstalker”.

Rovan turned to view the presence that had appeared beside him, and found himself looking into the dark eyes of a scarred Caitian, and a Lieutenant Commander ranked Caitian at that. At the greeting, Rovan nodded and smiled ever so slightly at the use of his name and the clear dropping of rank for both him and this Nightstalker. That could only mean that the Officer knew him, or of him somehow, and that meant Intelligence perhaps rather than ships business.

“Thank you for the welcome, Lieutenant Commander” Rovan replied, noting the others rank in his reply. “You don’t quite look like the Chief Engineer, Sir. Unless I was looking at out of date department files.” He grinned momentarily, showing the jest was just that. “Do we know each other Sir? Forgive me if I fail to make the connection.”

Meanwhile, Orvos stood a distance off out of the way with his arms crossed as he observed their interactions. Stark was probably the closest to Orvos. Well, closest as in the caitian had been through hell and back with him. And vice versa. There were…others…he was beginning to find himself close to. Too close? Not close enough? He kept the thoughts of her in the back of his mind as hoped something comical might unfold before him.

Stark smiled lazily showing sharp canines in the process, “Connection is what this is all about Rovan Moor. It’s my custom to check over every new assignment to the Athena and meet them in person. I believe in the “personal touch” and getting to know people face to face. In your case however I have a slightly selfish motivation that goes beyond my purview of intelligence gathering. I frequently find myself in difficult situations that require a good pilot and you Rovan Moor would be someone I believe I could count on when next I find myself in a “difficult situation”“. Stark waited for the Ktarian’s reply interested in what he would make of such an offer.
