A tall and dark stranger entered sickbay, and while this sounded kind of like in a novel, in case of Julien there was some truth to it, he was tall, tanned and had short black curls, his medical uniform fit his broad frame snugly and his oddly mismatched green eyes looked about sickbay like those of a child in a candy shop.

He had a broad smile on his lips as he rubbed his hands together. They were practically itching to get going. But first things first… he singled out the closest nurse and gave her a lopsided charming smile that made a dimple appear in his left cheek.

“Good day to you. My name is Dr Julien Smit, I’m here to get my boarding physical.” he said in his deep baritone.

  • Julien Smith, doctor

The nurse seemed slightly transfixed by the sight of the man and then realised she was stalling. A golden paw appeared on her shoulder and gently moved her back to what she had been doing leaving in the space she had been occupying a lithe golden haired Caitian who bowed slightly flipping his tail into his paw as he did so.

Golden eyes met the doctor’s as the Caitian smiled a half smile that hid his canines, “S’Raal Cran Moonshadow at your service, former CMO, still registered and pleased to welcome you aboard the Athena”. He motioned to a private area near the back of the number two sickbay and enquired sotto voce “Too obvious?”.

S’Raal Cran Moonshadow

Something like recognition flashed in Julien’s eyes when he saw S’Raal and he gave a quick serious nod and was about to answer when…

Karina smiled at the two as she moved thru the bay with a tray of instruments to replace those on an operating readiness tray in one of the sanitized alcoves near the medical beds. “Dr. Moonshadow, is there anything I can assist with?” She glanced at the stranger and nodded in greeting, having not heard the introductions as they passed her.

S’Raal seemed to be coming up with an adequate reply to the question. Normally effusive and welcoming, he seemed slightly out of sorts.

From one second to the other Julien’s face transformed for Karina and he gave her a charming smile that made a cute dimple appear in his left cheek. Cute was otherwise not quite the attribute that first came to mind, it was true, Julien was quite attractive, but not in an aloof way. He spread his arms wide in a welcoming gesture to Karina
“Oh hello there, you must be Dr Karina Niles. I’m Dr Julien King, your new colleague and I’m really looking foward to working with you. I was hoping to meet you so you could maybe give me a little tour, later, if you have some time? I’ve never worked on such a big ship and the sheer size of all those sickbays is just a wee bit intimidating.” he said in his deep baritone and gave a good-natured chuckle.

S’Raal allowed the banter to continue while he started running scans at a rather quicker pace than normal his Medical tricorder in hand.

OOC: Scans would show all sorts of wrong, they would show a heartbeat but most other readings didn’t make any sense at all. - J.

Karina blushed without realizing it and nodded. “I will be happy to show you around when you are ready.” She watched the scan out of the corner of her eye as she stocked the various nearby stations. But she wasn’t able to see the readouts, though there seemed to be a few more beeps than usual. She just figured S’Raal was being overly cautious and checking lots of variables for the physical.

Julien beamed a smile at here that made a dimple appear in his left cheek. He bowed slightly and galantly before her and said “THank you, I will find you as soon as I’m done here.” he said.

S’Raal finished up and sent the results to an encrypted need to know file location that seemed to be becoming more and more populated with Athena denizens of late. He looked at Julien and smiled his usual half smile “Everything is within normal parameters” he said obviously finding subterfuge an uncomfortable game. “I’d like to run some further tests at a later time”. Julien would pick up between the lines that privacy would be needed for that to occur. S’Raal looked at Karina, “He’s cleared for duty so the two of you can take that tour if you wish” turning back to Julien he added “Unless you need anything else from me Doctor?”.

“Ah, yes there are a few things in my medical file I’d like to discuss… in private.” he winked at Karina with a smile “I hope you understand, there are certain things we men are not as mature about as women.” he said.

Karina rolled her eyes before turning to nod. “Of course. I will see to the other med bays before I am done for the shift, Sir.” She nodded to S’Raal. Then she smiled once more at the newcomer. “I will be available at your convenience as well, Sir. Welcome aboard.” She turned to leave as her mind wondered why no one simply pulled rank and said, ‘Please leave us.’ It seemed so much easier than making excuses which men were lousy at doing. Something told her this new crewmember was anything but immature about anything.

S’Raal waited for the young lady in question to say her goodbye’s and reflected on the smoothness of this man’s delivery and self depreciating manipulation. He resisted the impulse to take notes, T’Pon would tumble him in seconds.

Julien waited until they were alone in a closed private examination suite. Once in he outed a scanner and scanned the room quickly. With a nod he stasched it away and gave S’Raal a smile that made a dimple appear in his left cheek and looked somewhat reliefed.

“When you get back to your office you’ll find an encypted file from your … Cmdr. Stark is your uncle, right? So, from your uncle, confirming what I’m about to tell you, which is classified information under security clearing level 10.” he gave a nod to S’Raal, his mismatched green eyes smiling, as if he was greeting him a second time.

“My name is actually Fleet Captain Julien King, I’m the ex-CO of the USS Genesis and here on board incognito on a secret mission. The only people who know are the Captian, your uncle and Lt. Orvos Legen, the CE.” he said in a deep baritone.

  • Julien Smith, doctor

S’Raal was almost beside himself with curiosity, he looked at the scans again and the extensive work that had been done on this man. Putting that together with Ghubari, Orvos and Stark being involved and he knew he was standing on the cusp of something big. A thousand questions filled his mind but in the end his medical curiosity won the day paws down.

“Pleased to really meet you” he said with a half smile, “I’m trusting that the file fills me in on the basics of how everything in there is integrated and able to function together” he carried on breathlessly, “but what I really want to know is if you had that dashing dimple before or after they operated on you?”

Julien laughed out loud, a deep rumbling laugh, surprise on his face. “Hah, you’re quite unlike your uncle.” he nodded. “Yes it includes my full medical file. I may be here for a long time and if something should happen to me it is extremely important that you and Lt. Legen take care of me and nobody else, becasue it would blow my cover and then I can’t fulfill my mission here anymore.”

  • Julien Smith, doctor

S’Raal was trying hard to ignore the fact that he hadn’t had his question about the dimple answered and hoped the file would enlighten him. Respectfully he continued “Yes, my Uncle and I are polar opposites in most things, as to taking care of you I’d imagine that Orvos and I are going to have to run a few simulations together just on the off chance that we have to repair your biotech interfaces on the fly”. It was obvious from his expression that he was relishing the opportunity to try something new.

Julien’s eyebrow went up “Simulations? Oh ok. Sage and Chan never did, but then they had a lot of hands-on experience from the start..” he mused and suddenly looked quite homesick, but shook it off quickly and waved a hand. “My former CMO and CE, never mind, I’m open for it as long as we include Cmdr. Stark so he can make sure nobody can trace in the ship’s computer exactly what we were doing. Hm, we could do it in sickbay three during the night shift and simply send the nurse on duty to bed and close the whole thing down.” he mused. His tone and the way he spoke gave him away too much, it was the tone and the words of a Captain, but Julien didn’t realise that.
