Ghubari watched the group for a few more moments, letting everyone find their way. Your timing is excellent, she told Konral. Telepathy had its perks, especially in a crowded room.

Looking to Stark and Laraan, Koraia winked. “Time for the more serious stuff before the party can begin. If you’ll excuse me,” she said.

Slipping away, the captain moved with an ease in her heels that she had not demonstrated since she had been an XO on the Cheyenne. Moving towards the stage area in the corner set up for the entertainment later. After having the background music killed, she grabbed the microphone and switched it on. “Can I get your attention, please?” she called out, Ghubari’s voice carrying easily over the group. She waited till it was quiet.

“I hate to interrupt the fun, but tonight’s proceedings do have some formalities to address. So if you can join me downstairs, we’ll take care of those so we can all enjoy the rest of the evening.” Turning off the mc, she simply gestured for people to go on, and let them head downstairs.

Stark led Laraan downstairs surrendering for once to the situation and not being on point, he reasoned that with R’han present he could afford a vacation anyway. S’Raal and T’Pon fell in step with the two and as Stark acknowledged their presence he fleetingly wondered what Michail was up to.

Dan followed the group downstairs. Dan did not feel in his element when it came to social situations. Dan preferred mixing chemicals to mixing with people, but understood the importance of social gathering. Crew solidarity and all that.

Jayden followed everyone else downstairs. He hoped to find someplace where he wouldn’t be seen. He still wasn’t sure what he was doing there and wasn’t at home in large crowds, preferring wide open spaces to the presence of lot of people.

“Ulterior motives, of course.” R’han said quietly now the party made sense.

Konral followed the group in tow, he knew some of the plans tonight and always enjoyed when Ghubari got the entertaining bug up her bonnet.

Laraan let herself be led by Stark, holding on to his wonderfully furry and warm arm.

Dan followed Laraan and Stark. Dan was wondering what this was really going to be about. In Dan’s experience the Captain didn’t call an all crew meeting lightly.

Soon the dance was done and Isabel left the man who would have preferred she stay. No, she didn’t want to be tied down and besides, she was interested in what the Captain had to say. Izzy had made some friends on board but had yet to allow herself to open up much to the department heads. Maybe in time she would come to trust them and they would come to trust her. For now, she would do what she could to help the ship.

Karina brought up the rear of the group as they headed down. She was more of a wall flower than a party gal. She never seemed to know how to act in situations like this. It was, in her opinion, better to duck in, have a drink and depart. As they gathered and she paused to listen, the murmuring finally stopped as they all found their places and watched the CO at the podium. Her hands reached down to brush non existent wrinkles from her tunic top. She was in matching tunic and leggings of a sapphire blue that complimented her skin. And the under blouse beneath the tunic was black as was the waist belting and boots she wore. Her hair was up, as usual, in its regulation knot off her neck and shoulders. It was the closest she had come to ‘dressing up’ since arriving. And it still felt a bit unusual to her.

She crossed her arms and tried to make herself invisible.

Following her crew down the stirs, Ghubari managed in her heels better than even she expected.

Down in the 18 Forward portion of the longe, the room was pretty basic with just a podium and mic. Clearly, people were expected to stand, which suggested that Koraia didn’t intend for this to last too long.

Coming to stand behind the wood podium, Ghubari glanced down and checked that the small shelves had everything she needed (which they did) and then she began. “Alright, good evening. Now, this is not the first time we’ve combined a formal gathering with a party, but last time, years ago, we changed our of dress uniforms into party clothes. Today, I figured I’d give you the options. Afterwards, those who feel uncertain about carrying around an object they may receive are free to leave it with my for safe keeping for the evening.”

Pausing for a moment, Koraia took a moment to take in her crew. In them she saw the span of the years of her captaincy, the changes, the familiar faces, the ones missing. It was undoubtedly a situation that caused a mx of emotions, and though she herself had gone through many changes, in this moment she was her stoic and reflective self. There would be no heart worn on her black velvet sleeve tonight. “I wanted us to gather, rather than do this on an individual basis because it was as a crew, a team, and moreover a family that we found our way through what was a difficult mission. Those that were there understand what I mean and I wish to take a moment to simply say thank you for your constant dedication and determination. It takes a special kind of courage, and sometimes”-she smirked slightly-“insanity to do what we all did, and though once again our assignment is considered classified, I wish it to be publicly know that every crew member on this ship is being awarded a Commendation that will be on your permanent records.” It meant that the proof of their act would be there, even if the details and why were not.

“Now, before I carry on with the awards, I wish to acknowledge all the new crew that has joined us. In particular, our new first officer, Lieutenant Commander Lukagu , who goes by Luka,” she said, gesturing to the Laleri with a slight nod of acknowledgement. She’s been making her rounds, so if you haven’t met her yet, I’m sure you will in the coming days, though if she hasn’t already, I think she’ll discover soon the task of getting to know a crew of the size our is. In any case, welcome , Commander, and welcome to the rest of the new faces. “

Gathering her thoughts, Ghubari didn’t waste too much time before moving on. “Now, I have some specific awards to give out and then some promotions.” She inhaled slowly, preparing herself for this brief moment of discomfort. “The first award is being awarded to two being who iare not here to claim it, though it’s being held for them for the appropriate time. As confirmed by Starfleet Command, Commander Adam Chryst is hereby awarded the Starfleet Medal of Valour, and Nicodarius is awarded the Starfleet Medal of Commendation for their particularly gallant actions in our last mission.” There, she made it.

Reaching down into the built-in shelves of the podium, Koraia pulled out a small black box and allowed herself a small smile. “Ensign Dan Jones, would you please step forward.”

“Yes Captain”, Dan said as he stepped forward to make his way to where the Captain was standing. Dan wasn’t sure what was going on but had faith she would not present him with a one-way ticket to Rura Penthe.

For a moment the captain just gazed at Jones intently. “Sometimes it’s the small details that add up to something more. While the nature of our last mission was particularly pertinent to the science department, and their actions made the difference towards us finishing it or not, I also am a big believer in the consistent every day work that serving on a starship entails.” Koraia twirled the box in her fingers for a moment before opening it, her pale amber eyes glittering with delight. “For both the larger efforts and the smaller and equally necessary ones, I hereby promote you to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade, with all the rights, responsibilities and privileges therein.” She pulled the hollow pip out and reached forward, pinning it to his collar.

Ghubari reached out and offered her hand. “Congratulations, Lieutenant.”

“Thank you Captain” Dan said as he shook her hand and then saluted. Dan then stepped back and out of the way of the next person.

Once Jones had stepped back, she looked across the crowd. “Lieutenant Madison”-she gestured with her head for him to join her-“you are up next,” Ghubari said with a slightly suppressed grin.

OOC: Thanks for your patience. Bad pain week.

Fl. Captain Koraia, CO

Dan smiled briefly as he heard Madison’s name called.
