Janna shrugged. “Depends. I like to use the breadth of my knowledge and experience to inform possibilities, but with only a few clues sometimes you need to be creative. And what is life but a series of sometimes random events? I mean, I have a good imagination, but I’ve often found that sometimes reality tosses you stuff that you just can not make up. Our last mission, is an example,” she said with a lopsided, if sad, sort of grin. While it was a hush, hush , they could speak in general terms given they had both been there.

Isabel nodded emphatically. Merging with her self had been a very strange thin; not just in the sensation she had felt upon merging but also just the concept of two people who were the same save a few crucial hours. Those hours made a difference for some, and no difference for others. Each person’s choice as to who remained and who became absorbed was entirely personal and depended greatly on circumstances each had endured. It would have been an interesting social experiment to survey everyone on the ship to determine which self remained.

“True, but here… in the Lounge, seems like an innocuous place to me. Here it is quite mundane. Not that it is always so, but I find peoples discussions in here often center around work or love.”

“That’s definitely true,” Janna said with a nod. “Though after an event like this, things tend to be more… energetic. But still, sometimes just having the inspiration in your own mind can lead you to assume conversations here are more interesting than they actually might be. See, for me, it’s not an act of reality, nor does it need to be. It’s a release and a getaway from reality all on its own, without the immersion that can sometimes be a problem with holographic environments.”

“An affirmation of life after a hard mission you mean?” She could imagine that was true. If one’s life was in danger, the idea that they survived might prompt people to do things they had been hesitant to do before. “Perhaps there is more than one relationship starting tonight in this very room. People finally getting the guts t’ say what they have been thinking for a while… or perhaps there is more than one relationship ending tonight? Hmmm… somehow I don’t think that is as likely. People want positivity and nothing brings an estranged love closer together like a brush with death.” Only and Irish woman could make that last sound so nonchalant.
