“That’s definitely true,” Janna said with a nod. “Though after an event like this, things tend to be more… energetic. But still, sometimes just having the inspiration in your own mind can lead you to assume conversations here are more interesting than they actually might be. See, for me, it’s not an act of reality, nor does it need to be. It’s a release and a getaway from reality all on its own, without the immersion that can sometimes be a problem with holographic environments.”

“An affirmation of life after a hard mission you mean?” She could imagine that was true. If one’s life was in danger, the idea that they survived might prompt people to do things they had been hesitant to do before. “Perhaps there is more than one relationship starting tonight in this very room. People finally getting the guts t’ say what they have been thinking for a while… or perhaps there is more than one relationship ending tonight? Hmmm… somehow I don’t think that is as likely. People want positivity and nothing brings an estranged love closer together like a brush with death.” Only and Irish woman could make that last sound so nonchalant.

Janna smiled softly. “Both can be likely, but I think you’re right. Because, yes, that is a part of what I mean. It’s the shared experience that can stimulate connection where there might not have been before.” She slid her empty glass across the bar and waited to catch the bartender’s eye for a refill.

When the new arrived, Kingston took a deep sip. “There’s also the other side of it where people process what they went through. Knowing others are struggling a bit can make you feel less alone and like you’re not crazy for feeling like you might.”

Finally taking her attention from the room and its inhabitants, she watched as the bartender worked the bar, serving quickly and efficiently. She enjoyed her own drink as Kingston’s was refilled. She was liking this conversation. All the hypotheticals were likely more true than they might expect. Izzy listened and grinned. She almost snorted. “Unless you are alone and a bit crazy… then it feels like any other day.”

Kingston openly laughed. “Well, that can certainly be the case at times, but if there is anything I have learned about being on this ship so far is that just when you think you’re on your own, people magically turn up to remind you otherwise.”

She considered Delaney for a moment. “How’s the security team overall? And yes, this is a counsellor doing a soft inquiry,” Janna said with a grin. “I was on the other side of that mess on the surface helping the med folks, but I know you all had your hands full down there. It can be a lot to process sometimes.”
