Rovan turned to view the presence that had appeared beside him, and found himself looking into the dark eyes of a scarred Caitian, and a Lieutenant Commander ranked Caitian at that. At the greeting, Rovan nodded and smiled ever so slightly at the use of his name and the clear dropping of rank for both him and this Nightstalker. That could only mean that the Officer knew him, or of him somehow, and that meant Intelligence perhaps rather than ships business.

“Thank you for the welcome, Lieutenant Commander” Rovan replied, noting the others rank in his reply. “You don’t quite look like the Chief Engineer, Sir. Unless I was looking at out of date department files.” He grinned momentarily, showing the jest was just that. “Do we know each other Sir? Forgive me if I fail to make the connection.”

Meanwhile, Orvos stood a distance off out of the way with his arms crossed as he observed their interactions. Stark was probably the closest to Orvos. Well, closest as in the caitian had been through hell and back with him. And vice versa. There were…others…he was beginning to find himself close to. Too close? Not close enough? He kept the thoughts of her in the back of his mind as hoped something comical might unfold before him.

Stark smiled lazily showing sharp canines in the process, “Connection is what this is all about Rovan Moor. It’s my custom to check over every new assignment to the Athena and meet them in person. I believe in the “personal touch” and getting to know people face to face. In your case however I have a slightly selfish motivation that goes beyond my purview of intelligence gathering. I frequently find myself in difficult situations that require a good pilot and you Rovan Moor would be someone I believe I could count on when next I find myself in a “difficult situation”“. Stark waited for the Ktarian’s reply interested in what he would make of such an offer.

“Intelligence gathering.” Rovan said, although it wasn’t a question despite the tone used. “Ahh. In that case Commander you don’t want a good pilot, you can find a good pilot on every deck of this ship. You want the best pilot, and that’s me.” Rovans own yellow, catlike eyes looked frankly into the unusual black of the Caitian Intelligence Officer, “I’m guessing that my qualifications in both Security and Engineering would be helpful?” As well as his recent mission which this Nightstalker may or may not have read the debrief on, if his clearance was high enough of course Rovan considered.

Stark smiled, confidence was necessary and expected in his line of work and he appreciated it in others.

From Rovans own experience, those, ‘difficult situations’ normally arose after or during the fact, not en-route, meaning that this Intelligence Officer might need someone to count on more directly, rather than as a simple taxi. The smile that appeared on Rovans face was slight, but his eyes grew dangerous. “If you find yourself in need of someone to count on, Commander, you know where to find me.”

“Done and done then Rovan Moor, I appreciate your candour and now I will leave you to your boss who no doubt is somewhere nearby”

With a slight nod and a quick turn Stark left quietly still trying to spy out where Orvos was undoubtedly watching them from. He smiled as he left, recent events were playing directly into his paws and when the time came all would be ready.

Stark Nightstalker CIO

Of all the luck. No mess up. No clumsiness. Perhaps this engineer would worth his time after all. Though having some dealing with Stark was not typical of those he considered to be witless. He knew of the CIO’s consistency in greeting newcomers not long after they appeared. But this seemed different. He kept it noted in the recesses of his mind as he climbed down of the ladders leading to one of the upper areas of engineering.

Watching where the form of the CIO had departed, Rovan noticed a figure making it’s way towards the office after descending the ladder, sharp yellow eyes looked over the man and slight recognition took hold. Stepping to one side, he cleared the path to the door and waited for the man to arrive.

“What brings you to my office lieutenant?” he inquired of the junior officer as he approached his office door.

Rovan nodded, then briefly came to attention before once again settling into the easy posture as he reported. “Lieutenant Legen, Sir. I’m Lieutenant Junior Grade Rovan Moor. I am reporting for assignment, transferred from the Veracruz. My duties also include those of Helm and Bridge operations, I have the orders here Sir.” He patted his tunic pocket where the data drive was kept.

His yellow eyes, catlike with their horizontal slit moved as he observed the Chief Engineer. The man was slightly taller, slightly heavier and looked young, but had the eyes of someone older. He knew the man was El Aurian from his file, and wondered at his reflexes, his motivations. Rovan blinked and stopped that thought path, the identity of Traylin Uhr no longer existing.

Orvos could sense the curiosity roiling off of him like waves coming to shore. Orvos was not one to typically satisfy curiosity however. Especially when he sensed it rather than hearing it voiced.

Orvos pressed a button to the door of his office. He then strolled in calling back, “Come on in, and let’s see the data drive.” He moved to the replicator for a iced tea. “Beverage?” he inquired as the drink materialized.

Following behind Rovan shook his head. “No, thank you Sir. I had enough Raktajino on the way over to last another month.” He took the data drive out of his pocket and placed it on the Chiefs desk before turning slightly to look back out the door and into engineering as the man got his drink.

Orvos gave a slight grin. “Suit yourself,” he said as he brought his own beverage to his desk.

On the drive were all the expected orders and forms, his transfer from the carrier U.S.S. Veracruz to his assignment orders for the Athena, including as an Engineer as well as reserve Bridge Officer duties. Of note, Rovan’s file also had him as a qualified officer for Security although that was not among his current orders.

“Engineer and pilot, eh?” he inquired as he glanced over the orders. “And able to double as security. You have quite the repertoire of skills it seems.”

He then looked up and faced the engineer before him. “Why did you decide to pursue such varying things?” he asked curiously.
