It had been a while since they’d had the chance to share in one of their personal rituals. But with everything going on, Kaylee thought it was a good time to set up a meeting with the Captain. She had slotted in a time officially, as not to take Ghubari away from any important work. She’d had a small rolling cart replicated and now she wheeled it down the hallway towards Ghubari’s quarters.

Ringing the bell, Kaylee waited for her friend to answer the door.

“Enter,” came the expected deeply accented voice.

Inside, Ghubari was in uniform, since she was on duty before and after, but her uniform jacket was off and folded neatly over the back of one of the dining chairs. Koraia herself was sitting on her sofa with a PADD in hand and she smiled as Kaylee entered. “Hello! You have no idea how much I’ve been looking forward to this.”

Kaylee wheeled the tea cart inside, also in uniform with her standard high heeled boos and high, tight ponytail.

“Me as well,” Kaylee said, smiling, as she parked the cart in front of Ghubari. She took the teapot and began pouring the hot water into the two mugs. “I didn’t invite Stark this time, I felt like we were both a little overdue for a little girl time.” She gave her friend a wink, handing her the mug of steaming hot water. She took a wooden box from the cart and opened the lid, holding out the box towards Ghubari so she could choose one of the many varieties of tea bags inside. Also on the tray were all the traditional things that went along with afternoon tea, such as cucumber sandwiches and various pastries.

Ghuabri laughed lightly. “I’m sure he’ll forgive us this time.”

Settling onto the sofa, with her own tea, Kaylee looked over at Ghubari. “I had an interesting meeting with our first officer the other day.”

“I can imagine,” Koraia said with a grin as she braced her arm on the back of the sofa. “Luka’s a very interesting being.” She had had a fairly diverse group of XOs on the Athena and none were better or worse. Each brought their own strengths and flaws to the job and it made for a different working relationship.

Kaylee’s eyebrows raised and she chuckled. “Well I raised a bit of concern about the issue of her having a pet on board. Strictly from a diplomatic point of view of course.” She carefully took a sip of her tea. “But then she became quite defensive and close minded about the subject and abruptly left the meeting.” She sighed. “You know I’m not one for direct confrontation but if approaching the subject of having a pet on board sets her off the rails, well then…” She let her voice trail off and gave a shrug of the shoulders.

“No matter,” Kaylee said, sipping at her tea again. “Am I the only one who is having trouble sleeping since our last mission?”
