The trip to the station from Earth was uneventful, although Kin spent the vast majority of the waking hours studying the layout of her new duty posting: the USS Athena. If she was being honest with herself, she was surprised that she had been assigned to a star ship. She had anticipated a planetary post, somewhere her training focus in Diplomatic Security would come into play more, but here she was. And if she was completely honest with herself, she would also have to admit that she was excited.As the shuttle landed in the bay and settled on the deck, Kin was at the hatch before the thrusters had wound down completely. With a nod to the shuttle crew she stepped out and, throwing a bag strap over her shoulder, she set out to get to the Athena as fast as she could, the long braids of her dark hair bouncing as she almost trotted out of the shuttle bay.
Arriving in the main area of the station, she began looking for the way to the Athena. She got more than a couple of looks, her iridescent purple scaling on her brow and chin making her stand out even among the numerous species present. While she had grown accustomed to the looks, a part of her still railed at the impropriety. Taking a deep breath an focusing, she weaved her way through the station and eventually came to Athena’s berth. Walking up to the two guards at the hatch, she said “Ensign Va’Ser-la, requesting permission to come aboard.” The guard looked at her and ran her against the crew list on the PaDD in his hand. ‘Oh yeah, you’re the new blood. Welcome aboard. Make sure you check in with the Chief first thing.” Kin nodded and said “Of course. I will report to the Security Chief immediately. Thank you. Have a safe and uneventful watch, Ensign.” and she made her way inside the ship.
It helped to have memorized the ship’s layout, and she made her way to the Security Chief’s office. Pressing the chime with her knuckles, she waited at parade rest for the door to open.
