Ghubari grinned and nodded. “Luckily for us, we’ve got a glorified cruise ship for a vessel and not only three arboretums, but also the science labs do botanical work. I bet if you asked, they’d be happy to let you have some space for airponics growing or something.” She sipped her wine. “But I would actually talk to T’Pon, who is our defacto groundskeeper. She’d set you up.”

“Hmm, I’d love to get a crop of Pad’thesh growing,” she grinned. “Given the fact that you are consuming beef, I would wager that you are not a vegetarian, and you might even enjoy the Pad’thesh. It is… like a meat, but it comes from a gourd that the Hatriku domesticated. It’s quite good, and a quality source of meat proteins without the resources or land needed to raise regular meat providers.”

“Interesting,” Koraia said sincerely. “I’m always game to try new things. You’ll have to introduce me to it sometime.”

At this point, she took another large bite of the curry, fighting slightly to maintain the decorum this meal required. The smell of the food was very strong, slightly overwhelming her sense of smell and making it a little harder to concentrate on eating in a polite manner. She was drooling a little, and had to regularly wipe her face with her napkin. She looked a bit embarrassed, knowing such behaviour wasn’t a human thing.

But if Ghubari noticed, she showed no observable signs of it. In fact, she was quite hungry and happily devoured her food. She would never think to comment on the way another being ate, since in all her years in Starfleet she had met many different people and ways of being. It just wasn’t something that required comment.

Glancing over at Luka, she simply smiled. “Anything about the ship you like the most so far?”

Luka nodded lightly, a small smile on her face. “I have only been here for a day, so it is hard to say,” she admitted, scratching her nose. “Maybe ask me in a few weeks?” She chuckled. “I’ve not yet got the feel of this ship or her crew…”

“Yeah, give it time. Me personally, I love having green space on board. The air might be recycled and the lighting artificial, but the arboreta are places where you can ground yourself in something living when you need space away from others. It makes up for the fact that I as a tactically minded Captain now have children and families on my ship. Hell, my mother lived with us for awhile.” Twirling her fork a bit, Koraia seemed amused and she sat back in her chair and looked out over the simulation of her home village environment.

Luka listened, nodding. “I’m glad for the arboreta. Mukin has a waste box so he doesn’t need walks like earth dogs do in order to have a place to relieve himself, but he still enjoys the fresh environment of plants surrounding him. And I enjoy it too,” she added. Luka finished off the last few bites of her meal and pushed her plate forward a little, leaning forward and placing her elbows on the edge of the table, resting her chin in her hands. “Maybe after we finish up here, we could go back to my quarters and I could introduce the two of you?” she suggested.

Koraia nodded. “I’d like that,” she said sincerely, even as she tone shifted slightly. There was no way around it but to force herself to be in situations where the reminder would likely be painful and remember that everything was different. And different was okay, if difficult. “Your siblings… are you close with them?”
