Karina took a deep breath and sighed. “And if ‘not’ being busy makes it worse? What then? Working keeps me occupied. Keeps my mind from trying to wrap itself around time travel, doppelgangers, and acid bleeding beasts. Dream journal and meeting I don’t see a problem with. But what am I supposed to do when not working?” She lifted her hands to encompass the holodeck, “Just wander around the park in centuries old Paris?” She laughed but it bordered on unbelievable, though not quite hysterical.
Karina
Doctor“If that helps,” Janna said gently. “It’s not about not being busy, it about not relying on work to make everything better. If you feel the need to do something, then pick an activity and do it. Read, exercise, hang out in the lounge, grow plants. Whatever makes you feel more at ease. And then along with the journalling and our get-togethers, I think you might start to feel less overwhelmed. It’s going to take time, Karina. And I’m here. Any time, day or night. Call me.”

Karina fell silent as they walked. The pace was slower and the doctor didn’t realize that Janna was the cause of it. After a moment, she nodded and sighed. “I don’t know what else to do besides work. It’s all I’ve ever done. And it’s what I enjoy. But I will find something.” She laughed and glanced around. “Even if I just start with walks in the park.”
“It is a pretty park,” Kingston said with a smile.
She paused and looked at the woman beside her. “I can’t promise I won’t go stir crazy… and I can’t promise you are biting off more than you can chew. But I promise I will try, sincerely.” She didn’t look happy, but she did look resolved.

Stopping and facing Karina, Janna nodded slightly. “That’s all I ask. This is not a Point A to Point B sort of process. Expect there to be bumps, and to feel like you’re not only not making process but going backwards. I promise you it will get better, and I will use every trick in my bag to help the process. You just have to keep trying. And if you need a buddy to keep you company during whatever non-work activity you choose, then go find one. Or call me. I’m happy to, as I said.”
