Jayden walked in not soon after looking a little tired, having just gotten off an engineering shift. He was a slightly taller then average man in his mid-twenties and appeared to be in good shape. He wasn’t sure what to make of this luncheon though and it showed on his face. His brown eyes looked around apprehensively while he found an empty seat. He generally kept to himself so he wasn’t to familiar with everyone, having seen most of them only in passing.

“Good day Commander, everyone.” He said respectfully, taking a seat.

Luka once more dipped her head. “Thank you for being here, Jayden. I am glad you accepted my invitation. Please, for today, call me Luka.”

“Hi, Bennett,” Karina smiled to the tired engineer. She didn’t know him well, but recognized him from the time or two she had seen him in medical.

Doctor

Marishka could tell the new arrival was a bit nervous, that was an easy thing to pick up in most men. She poured a cup of coffee, selected some cream and sugar, and silently offered it to him on a small tray leaning in to be certain that he caught a hint of her scent. Perhaps that would calm him a bit or, at least, distract him.

“Thank you once again for coming. I appreciate it. I know how stressful it is to be a Junior Officer - believe it or not, I was once one as well. Some of you are new arrivals to the ship, some of you have been here longer than I have. This luncheon is a judgement-free zone. If any of you have anything you wish to bring to my attention, feel free to talk to me about it. If you want to talk about hobbies and what you do in your off-time, I would love to have that conversation.”

Luka, XO

Marishka stepped away from Jayden and addressed the XO.

“Actually, I’d like to announce the reopening of our lounge in a few hours and hope to see you all there. I’ve taken the suggestion of holding a contest to rename it. I’m certain I will see some interesting entries. Thank you.” she said quite formally.

Kin had retrieved a plate and had taken a position off to the side. Even though she had worked very hard on overcoming her race’s predilection for formality, she still felt a bit awkward in informal social situations. Not that she didn’t want to participate in them, or that she couldn’t. It simply took her longer than most to gauge the dynamics of situations like this. Security detail? No problem. Diplomatic luncheon? She could handle that in her sleep. Lunch with friends? She would pace and fret for an hour before going to the restaurant, and then she’d be mostly quiet for the first half-hour.

Karina nodded to each of the comers in turn. She didn’t know any of them on a personal level, but as a doctor in Medical, she had seen each of them at least once. And at least that meant no one was a complete stranger to her. At least, not in a facial recognition kind of way.

Doctor

Luka smiled at Kin, allowing her to join the conversation when she felt comfortable and not pushing the young woman. The XO continued to eat her meal.

Luka, XO

Karina looked around and smiled. “Soooo… we finally get a chance to say all the things we ‘claim’ we will say if the Command Crew would hear us,” she laughed and shook her head, “and suddenly we are all struck dumb. Ok, so I’ll go first.” She nodded to the other and looked at Luka. “I think it should be mandatory for Command Crew and Department heads to see Medical regularly for their check ups. And not allow crewmen to use ‘work’ as an excuse not to go when they are due as well.” She could feel her heart thumping so hard in her chest it felt like it would burst. She was merely an Ensign.. no one of note… and not even on the ship long. But she knew, as many around the table did, that they all sat around saying things like ‘I’d like to tell the XO (or the CO or their Department head ) such and such… and given the chance, I’d give them a piece of my mind.’ Well here they were… given that chance… and they were all peacefully eating. She may end up on the wrong side of a disciplinary board for her ‘outburst’ but at least she had said what was on her mind.

Karina
Doctor (but for how much longer? lol)

Luka nodded. “On Galdori vessels, such practice is mandatory. We take our physical health quite seriously, and you can be certain to see me in Sickbay at least once every two moons,” she said, likely surprising the ensign by firmly agreeing with her. “Now that I know that it is a concern you hold, I will be certain to take up the matter with the Captain next time we have a meeting,” she spoke, then turned expectantly to the other attendees to her little luncheon.

Luka, XO

Janna knew that the captain took her ship and crew seriously, so she had no doubt that Karina’s concern would be followed up on. “I for one am looking for ideas for social opportunities that will help everyone not only get to know each other better, but also provide a release from the… intensity of the sorts of missions the Athena seems to be involved in. “Myself and Counsellor Laraan are always open to suggestions, even something that might seem ridiculous on the surface,” she said with a genial smile.
