R’han tilted his head, that was some pretty impressive return rates. “At this rate we should be cleared to leave within the half hour.” He glanced at this tactical station. “All tactical systems are in the green, Tactical is ready for departure.” Of course unlike the counselor, he was a department of one, and could be ready in a moment’s notice. In fact he was always ready to flee.

R’han

Stark watched the proceedings with interest. He hadn’t bothered to call in his department of one, it was obvious he was here and raring to go. Shore leave had turned into one huge fiasco and he was ready, willing and able to get back out into some normal mayhem for a while.

“Well, this is certainly a fascinating adventure,” she commented softly to the Captain. “I’m quite curious to see what my first mission as an Executive Officer will be like.”

Luka, XO

Turning to gaze at her new XO, Ghubari smiled and leaned in towards Luka. “I probably don’t need to tell you this, but on this ship, expect the unexpected,” she said with amusement. As long as there are no Borg, yours will probably be better than my first as captain was.”

Fl. Captain Koraia, CO

Luka chuckled amicably in response to that comment, and nodded silently. “What do we know so far?” she asked. “All I know is that we’re leaving soon to investigate some anomaly?”

Luka, XO

“That’s the gist. Quantum anomalies. Definitely the sort of thing we’re built for investigating. So we’re going,” Koraia replied.

NE Brawn replied in his typical Scottish brogue, “We’re not knowing much but a set eh coordinates right now, however the station has sent us their readings which ha a great deal of information including a strong source of neutrinos, ionised hydrogen and theta radiation along with quantum level fluctuations”.

NE Ceres spoke up from tactical his close cropped black hair gleaming in the overhead lighting “Ship wide reports are coming in showing that the repairs to the Athena are nearly complete, only a few minor systems that need to be double checked. We’re good to go on your order”.

OOC Feel free to relieve these people :-)

Orvos shot up from his relaxed state upon hearing the report. “Theta radiation is tricky stuff. Its typical in antimatter waste. Toxic. And if its high enough concentrations, it could disrupt subspace and prevent us from going to warp. Add in quantum fluctuations, and it almost spells out a recipe for disaster.” Having seen the effects of theta radiation made him somewhat versed in how it worked. Starfleet vessels were already equipped to recycle that sort of waste safely, so it had been some time since he had needed to recall information about it.

-Lt. Orvos Legen, CE

OOC: R’han is still there, so can be at tactical now.
IC:
“Which systems?” Koraia said, sitting up more straight and with a slight frown. She didn’t like proceeding under less than 100% but if they had to she wanted as few surprises as possible.

Readouts and reports showed that the systems still in need of repair were replicators in various public locations and some secondary power relays that had been fried during the leap back to present time. Those would only be needed if primaries failed which were already repaired.

Fl. Captain Koraia, CO

Izzy nodded to herself at the security console, reading the reports as they came in. Her Irish brogue sat oddly opposite the Scottish Ensign on the Bridge. His voice was gruff and like chewing rocks. Hers was soft and lilting. “Captain, All crew have been accounted for and are on board. Docking bays are closed and secured.”

Delaney, Sec

OOC: Figured I could get a little main sim action today even if it was something small :D

Luka smiled slightly, glad everyone was accounted for. She wasn’t eager to be leaving anyone behind on this mission. She glanced at Ghubari, waiting for her command to get going and head out towards the unknown.

Luka, XO

OOC I realise some are eager to get into the action and I apologise that this is the only interactive thread right now. I misjudged how long it would take us to get to the mirror verse where I have things set up for all and sundry. Please bear with me and enjoy the side sims in the meantime. Once we arrive there’ll be fun for all. Still living and learning the GM craft…

“We’ve got the equipment, we’re just waiting on the teams to finish working on secondary power relays. Jumping through time wreaks havoc on systems not used to it.”

Orvos continued looking over the report. There was then an audible thud as he allowed head to whack the console in front of him. Slouched over, he did not seem in pain, but rather annoyed. “Why the replicators?” he lightly spoke into his console.

“Back to the bar you go” Stark said quietly but with considerable sarcasm.

Ghubari exhaled quietly and nodded, more t herself than anything. “Alright, helm, you should have the coordinates. Coordinate with base to disembark and move us out. Once we’ve cleared the limit, go to Warp Six,” Ghubari told Rovan (OOC: assuming he’s going to sneak in here).

Fl. Captain Koraia, CO

NE Brawn reported, “Base reports that we be free and clear fur a test flight te the coordinates we’ve been gi’en Captain”. He didn’t think twice about the fact that the Starbase had assumed that they were testing repairs on a test flight and just put it down to a slight miscommunication between functionaries on the base.

Immediately, Orvos’s head popped up with an inquisitive look. “Test flight?” he inquired aloud.

-Lt. Orvos Legen, CE

OOC With our intrepid Captain still down I’m going to execute executive order no 3 and move us along so we can get this show on the road :-)
IC
NE Brawn nodded at Orvos, “Aye sir, looks like they want us to have a wee bit of a shake down while we check oot yon anomaly”.

The order was given and the Athena sailed majestically into the blackness of space, several hours later they found themselves coming up on the coordinates they had been given. Continuous ongoing scans showed clearly that they were heading for the ion nebula however as they approached their destination they were not picking up any quantum fluctuations at all. When they were within several hundred kilometres the Captain ordered all stop. Sensors still showed negative readings for everything they had been told to look for, however as they came to a full stop, there did seem to be something dead ahead on the view screen…

Junior Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

Orvos found the readouts to be quite puzzling. Nothing. Not a single quantum signature. Perhaps the readouts from earlier were now wreaking havoc on their sensor systems?

As he input commands into his console, he said aloud, “I’m going to run a quick level 3 diagnostic on the sensors. I’m curious if the quantum signatures are wreaking havoc on the sensors.”

While the diagnostic ran, he finally looked up at the viewscreen for the visual.

-Lt. Orvos Legen, CE

The diagnostic came back negative and precisely 4.7 seconds after that the sensors started to register a strong source of neutrinos, ionised hydrogen and theta radiation along with quantum level fluctuations. The dark spot in the middle of the view screen exploded into a whirling maelstrom, a very large wormhole, dark purple and lavender in alternating coruscating colours.

Luka stared into the face of the wormhole. “Well, I suppose I asked for something exciting, but this is going a little too far, do you not think?” she muttered under her breath. “Everyone brace yourselves. I have the premonition/feeling that we are going to have a turbulent few moments…”

Luka, XO

Laraan ripped her eyes away from the viewscreen to the XO with mild surprise in her eyes. She was only at an aux science console, but she was gathering and analysing sensor readings so she saw no fault in reporting them.
“It’s a fast expanding source of neutrinos, ionised hydrogen and theta radiation along with quantum level fluctuations, but nothing is forcing us to fly into it! Maybe we should get some safe distance?” she suggested, as they were still on a course towards it and after all nothing was forcing them to fly into it without any consideration. She couldn’t imagine why Luka was suggesting something extremely dangerous like that.”

  • Laraan, CNS

It was at this point that people started to notice that the Captain was no longer in her chair.

Junior Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

=^=Security alert,=^= R’han snapped out. =^=Department head, roll call your personnel report immediately.=^=

He turned to the XO. “Tactical present and accounted for.”

R’han

Laraan didn’t quite know why, but she instinctively opened a channel to Orvos. =^= Lt. Legen, please come immediately to the bridge, we need you. =^= she said and at the same time accessed the bridge’s internal cameras to replay the last seconds in which the Captain must have vanished.
- Laraan, CNS

Stark was all over the consoles trying to find answers but wasn’t finding any. In the end he ended up staring first at the empty Captain’s chair and then back into the maelstrom. “Is she in there?” he mused out loud trying to make sense of what had just happened.

Stark Nightstalker CIO

“Shields up Commander?” R’han turned to the other commander on the ship. “Commander Luka, your orders?”
