The final stop of the path to active duty brought Conner to the realms of the ships counsellor. He stood outside the door filled it’s an uncomfortable sort of trepidation. While starfleet officers were no strangers to the probing of a psychological specialist it only just occurred to him that the process on a real ship might be slightly different. Maybe they questions he was used to answering wouldn’t be the same questions and, if he gave the same answers, rather than finding himself admitted to the duty roster he’d find himself on the first shuttle back to the academy.

Closing his eyes he shook his head and tried to get a hold of the rising panic. “Get a grip.” He said outloud and reaching out pressed the chime.

The door swished back before he could really press it and he came into an oval rather large reception area with a few waiting seats and a reception, including a Risan receptionist. She looked over at Quinn and smiled.

“Hello there. May I take your name so I can check with which counselor you have an appointment?” she asked.

  • Laraan, CNS

OOC: Oh wow, you here? What a joy. Did you fancy a low-posting limit character?

Ooc: I had a character idea and promised Linds :p so now you have to put up with me haha ;)

IC: Conner entered glancing around. He looked at the receptionist and returned the smile with one of his own. “Cadet Conner Quinn ma’am.” He said “I uhh I don’t think I have an appointment I just arrived this morning and was told to report to get my boarding evaluations and check ins done as soon as possible.” He added by way of explanation.

“Ah right, new crew arrivals, well then you have an appointment indeed .... Dr. Conner.” she said, checking a PADD. “It’s with the head counselor Laraan. The green door over there if you please.” she said and pointed to one of the three differently coloured doors. This was a huge ship!.

Conner smiled warmly and nodding his thanks walked over to the green door. He pressed the chime and smiling waited for the confirmation to enter.

The door swished back and opened the view to a cosy looking counselor’s suite with a coffee table and a sofa and two arm chairs around it, ringed by greenery. To the side was a desk and the counselor just got up to welcome Conner.
She was petite, and bald, but it didn’t look like that becasue her whole skin, except for her face was covered in intricate, filigree tattoo-like red designs, swirls and patterns that, on her scalp, looked like she had hair, red hair to be precise.

Her eyes were slightly larger than human eyes and light grey, with a fine outer dark grey rim around the pupil. She looked at him and smiled.
HEr voice, when she spoke was oddly multi-layered and song-like, so it sounded as if she was singing a contra-alto to what she was saying. It sounded utterly beautiful and soothing.

“Hello there, please come on in and get comfy. My name is Laraan.” she sang.

Returning the smile Conner came to the seat closest to her, located such that he could face her and she him during their conversation. “Conner.” He said by way of introduction and held out his hand. “I’ve just been assigned and here to get my boarding check in with you if you have the time.”

She smiled and nodded, shaking his hand. Her hand felt like a child’s hand in his.

“Conner, it’s nice to meet you. You can call me Laraan. What is your first impression of this ship and crew?” she asked with a smile.

  • Laraan, CNS

Looking thoughtful a moment Conner laughed slightly. ” It is BIG!” he said then added. ” I mean I knew it was going to be, I studied the ship specs and the diagrams and the manifest as best I could before coming but man…nothing is like experience first hand.”

Laraan nodded. “Yes that is true. Is that the reason you wanted to be assigned to the Athena?” she asked.

  • Laraan, CNS

Conner smiled again. “I was asked to be part of the programme and be assigned to active ship status but I didn’t know what ship I was going to get. I guess I got lucky, once I found out my posting I did my homework.” He laughed. “I guess it’s an old habit from my youth, prepare for a role by finding out as much as you can.”

Laraan gave a warm laugh. In her multi-layered voice it sounded like a chorus of bells chiming in harmony.

“You say that as if you were an old man my dear.” she sang, and it was clear she wasn’t ridiculing him but simply lightening up the mood to make him feel more at ease.

  • Laraan, CNS

Conner laughed too. The sound was infectious so why not join in. “Sorry. I mean when I was younger I worked on a few holoshows and you had to research the role a little. Or someone told you about it.”

Laraan’s large silver-grey eyes showed real interest. “Oh so you’re into holo novels? I must admit I love them too. On my world holo technology is everywhere, like the EMH, we have holograms do all menial work and its of course also used in many different ways for relaxation. Why is it you like them?” she asked.

  • Laraan, CNS

Conner considered. “ I guess because my parents worked on the holo shows and as a child I did too.” He said honestly, “it like the family business as it were, my sister went on to work in the field too but not me.”

Laraan simply nodded with her warm smile and gave him space to tell some more if he wanted to.

Conner smiled back, “ Ok so…about me in more detail I guess. So like you may have guessed I have an older sibling, I’m the second child. My sister, Eliot, is three years older. She’s a typical sibling annoying to the Inth degree growing up, pushed me off a bunk bed as a child and broke my arm that sort of thing.” He laughed as if he had forgiven her actions long ago, “ My parents are fairly open minded but very supportive. My father was an actor, my mother a makeup artist. It was a sort of boy meets girl romance love at first sight thing…” he considered. “I think that’s it. My parents still work in the business of holo shows etc, my sister produces and directs and they don’t really get my desire to explore and see the stars but they support it.”
