He looked at the scan result to distract himself, get grounded again in his work. “Well this is extraordinary. You’re right we’re both special. I’ve saved your medical files in my memory chip, I guess it’s a bit pathetic that I didn’t delete the data from the Genny, but I still miss my crew. Anyhow, you haven’t aged a day and and signs of past injury are completely healed.” he said and looked into her eyes again, his brains going full time now. They did have more in common than even she was aware of. And it made him wonder…

“I know,” she sighed lightly, closing her eyes and reciting the exact numbers and words the tricorder was telling Julien. “In the past few weeks, I’ve gone through so many physical and mental examinations, even someone without my extraordinary memory could remember those figures… I don’t age. I don’t have any scars. I am incapable of forgetting anything. I heal more than a human should be able to. I don’t know why. It’s just how it is… How I am now. I’m just grateful they decided not to keep me as a lab subject.”

He gave a low chuckle. “On this ship, they have their pick in possible lab subjects, believe me. Unusual is normal on the Athena.” he looked into her eyes, his mismatched green eyes full of deep thought.

“We share this trait you know. I haven’t told many people this, but the reason that my body can tolerate its android parts is that I heal very fast. It’s the only way the both parts work together without breaking apart. My mother is a geneticist. When they discovered that I had a genetic defect as an embryo, she started meddling, although it was prohibited. And she thought that while she was at it, she could give me a few genetic advantages along the way. The problem with it is… you start wondering. What or who would you be without it? Do you even have a right to be better than normal humans? I don’t know about you, but the question has shaped me as much as my altered genetic setup.” he said.

Allison glanced at the ground, shaking her head. “What would I be without what has been done to me? For one thing, I would be dead of old age,” she said with a small chuckle, trying to insert humor into the moment. “I know who I am without these alterations. Who I was before my hundred years. I still struggle with the second question, about what right I have to be as I am, but I’m lucky enough to know who I would be without the things that make me different from normal humans.”

“And I don’t mean a lab subject on this vessel,” she said with a small laugh. “Although I still may be under study, if my encounter with the Intelligence officer is anything to be believed. One thing I don’t like about people who know my secrets before they get to know me as a person… they see me as a thing to be studied, something fascinating… instead of seeing me as a person with hopes and dreams that have nothing to do with what happened to me in the past. Which is part of why I requested from Starfleet that they keep my past confidential and not on my public record.”

He nodded, envying her a bit for having known her original self. “Well then, maybe destiny had its hand in this encounter. I am a doctor here, at least for the time of this mission of mine and your secret is safe with me. What’s more, you’re not alone. Rovan and me will are there for you and so will Marishka in her own way.”

Allison nodded quietly, smiling. “There’s nothing wrong with what you are, Cap– Doctor Julien. Sorry, force of habit,” she said with a wink. Something about the way she spoke made it seem as though she hadn’t said what she had by accident.

His trademark smile and dimple returned. “Four ex-Genny crew members, reunited.” he said and winked. Then he looked serious again

“What did Stark say to you?” he asked. Because he was serious, he would sooner die than let anything happen to them. In his heart, they were still Genesis. Despite the fact that he liked the Athena and her crew a lot, it was Ghubari’s family, not his. Could it ever be? Could he ever feel so close a group of people again that much?

Allison tilted her head slightly, reaching into her recent memories, then opened her mouth and began to speak. Her voice sounded strange, a close imitation to Stark’s voice.

“‘I’ve been looking forward to meeting you Allison. I do love a good mystery.’ When I told him I wasn’t interested in talking about my past, he said, ‘Your past is an open book, Allison, as you say. No, my curiosity lies with your future. Someone who has come from where you have come and experienced what you have experienced is different, unique, a flower of a different breed. My curiosity lies with who you are becoming and if I may be candid and bold, I feel privileged to be a part of that future and to be able to watch it unfold.’ I’m a ‘flower of a different breed,’ apparently.” She was a bit worked up, angered again, but calmed herself.

“I told him, in no uncertain terms, that he could shove off,” she said with a small huff. “The only man who’s allowed to call me a flower is Rovan, not some stranger who seems to think I want to be studied or watched like wildlife…” She leaned against the wall after pacing a few moments.

“I’m glad you’re here. And Marishka. I’ll have to see her at some point…” Allison said softly, sitting on the biobed.
