OOC: I realise this is de facto a superpower, that’s why I’ll make it unreliable and if you as GM say it doesn’t fit in your plans, you can simply say it didn’t work in a sim situation :-)
OOC I appreciate that :-) Poor Stark is starting to feel like Hawkeye in the Avengers haha.

OOC: I forgot to add in my comment here. :P I figured Stark would be more like Black Panther. hahahaha. Laraan as the scarlet witch. Orvos probably Dr. Strange. lol.
OOC: I’m in love with Dr. Strange! Best male superpower of all!

OOC I can live with that :-) I have two daughters who also think Doctor Strange is dreamy haha

Michail looked at Laraan, then he looked at the apple, then back at Laraan, then he looked at the machine and sighed. “I was afraid of that”.

“Afraid of what?” Stark said curiously his own eyes a little wider as he looked at the apple.

“The machine shows no readings, whatever Laraan did, it froze the machine as well”. He looked at Laraan, “Could you give us your take on what just happened?”

Michail

Laraan’s light grey eyes were larger as usual. She had the impulse to go over to Stark and snuggle up in his strong arms, but she stood still. There were times to snuggle up, and there were times to be a Starfleet Officer.
She drew a deep breath. “I believe I’ve halted time for this whole room… maybe the whole ship.” she sang in a slightly disonant tone.

  • Laraan, CNS

Michail was trying to look stoic and failing utterly. “So let me get this straight, we’ve jumped from manipulating time on a localised level to doing it on a much broader spectrum”. Michail grimaced a bit. “Dulmer’s going to have an apoplectic fit over this one”.

He looked over at Stark, “If word of this get’s out Laraan is going to be targeted by uptime factions, some will want to use her, some will want to kill her”. He turned to Laraan and looked apologetic, “You have to know the stakes” he said grimacing even more. “We lost an agent this way, our time shielded records alerted us but in every other respect they simply removed her from the timeline by preventing her birth. The stakes are high but thankfully the balance of time seems pretty adept at stopping that sort of thing happening… usually.” He paused and then continued “Well, you’re in the right place Laraan, the Athena is probably one of the best kept timeline secrets on the books right now”.

Michail

OOC: Given Orvos’s abilities, would he have sensed this shift in time?

-Tony
OOC: I would think so, yes.

Laraan shrugged apologetically. “It has to do with this added energy in me. Like an added charge… it would make sense given the fact that when my people bio-engineered the Helaar in the last era to get warriors who could do multiple powerful channels, they mainly extended their life span. It’s said the fighting Helaar died after only a few decades, because when you channel that much, the energy around you is not enough, you also take energy from yourself. I didn’t do that before, that’s even a tabu for me. But this time I did, subconsciously I guess, knowing that I have currently too much of it anyhow. But that would mean… that I’m kinda like a charged weapon, and once the charge is exploited, it would start reducing my life span.” she sang with a worried undertone.
“Can we check if time stopped outside this room too?”

  • Laraan, CNS

Stark took out his personalised PaDD, =/\= Computer compare time index on this PaDD with ship wide chronometer and confirm whether they are in sync or whether there is a discrepancy=/\=

=^= There is a time discrepancy of 13 seconds. =^= the computer replied.

Laraan looked at Stark. “The whole ship.” she whispered. She didn’t know whether she should feel happy or terrified. She had wanted this, wanted to be able to have a channel that was strong enough to make sure Stark was safe when they entered the next inevitable fight with this terrifying abomination that had Heleen DNA. And yet at the same time she had just discovered a new similarity between this being and herself.
She silently shook her head. No, she couldn’t think like that. There was no way she would ever even be able to return to a normal life on Heel, and there was no need, Earth was just as much a home to her than Heel. So why let Heel’s dogmas make her feel like a criminal. She was not, she was first and foremost Stark’s mate, and she was hell bent to stay that for as long as possible.

  • Laraan, CNS

Suddenly, a knock sounded on their door. Not a chime a ring, not the sound of the doors swishing open. A simple knock.

-Lt. Orvos Legen, CE

Laraan looked up and to the door. She had a weird feeling as if she knew who it was. “Come in.” she sang.

  • Laraan, CNS

Stark went on high alert but as he looked at Michail he noted the man didn’t look worried, in fact he looked like he was expecting someone.

The doors swishes open revealing a man caught in a deep yawn. He dawned a simple grey outfit.

Orvos Legen stepped inside with a semi serious face. “This whole 47 minutes ahead, 47 minutes behind is already dizzying enough without someone tampering more with variances.” He sighed.

“Well. I’m awake now.” Orvos moved forward eyeing each one in kind. “What just woke me?”

-Lt. Orvos Legen, CE

Stark laughed out loud at that. “Sorry, we should have included you from the start”. He looked over at Laraan giving her the lead on the big reveal.

Orvos nodded dutifully. “I’ll take that as a lesson learned.” He then let his gaze fall to Laraan. “Seems you have something to share?”

-Lt. Orvos Legen, CE

Laraan looked at Orvos. “The background story is rather lengthy… you know of my ability to channel energy into another form of energy, in my case life energy. Every Heleen can do one channel, more is dangerous, a tabu in our society and it costs too much energy from the one channeling. However, when the other Laraan merged with me, I fell into a coma because her energy did not merge, it was somehow added to mine and it was like receiving an overdose.
My mother came and helped me…” she looked again at the apple lying on the floor and her red frillings on her temple’s pulsed in colour-depth slowly.

“I did experiment with a second channel before, I was able to forward time for an apple so it rotted a little faster. I felt how this time-manipulation channel works when I was close to another one channeling to freeze time. I just tried it again with this added mojo from my time-displaced self… and froze time for the whole ship it seems.” she said in her melodic soft voice that always sounded a bit like a beautiful song.

She looked so tiny in their middle and her large light-grey eyes seemed even wider as she looked at Orvos with the remnants of her shock upon what she had done still in there. She shrugged. “I’m not even sure exactly how I did it.”

  • Laraan, CNS

Stark spoke up as he stood next to her for support. “The important thing though is you did it without causing major disruptions to the ship or danger to any one of us, that says a lot in my book”

Stark Nightstalker CIO

Orvos was not so readily able to accept that she was ok. “You say you are not sure how you did. What were you feeling at the time it happened?” He then glanced over at Michail, figuring the man already knew more about was going on than he did. “Do you have anything to add?” he inquired of the man.

“Nothing that would be of use to you Orvos” Michail replied, his tanned weather beaten face creased in a smile, “All I know is that there are points in the universe where power, time and space converge to create new things of wonder. The Athena is one of those points and I’m thoroughly enjoying being a part of it.” He paused and looked thoughtful, “It would help though if you all ceased to look at yourselves as individuals and started asking the question “What are we when we’re combined”“>

Orvos’s brows knitted together in focus on Michail. He was beginning to sound more like an El Aurian the more he spoke. Who was Michail, besides Stark’s friend, anyway? “Certainly a question worth exploring,” said Orvos pointedly.

No, Orvos had no real authority over any of these people, but as an old man (in a young body) he was well aware and fully capable of putting on the teacher persona if it meant ensuring the safety of the ship.

-Lt. Orvos Legen, CE

Laraan looked at Orvos and realised she didn’t know how to answer his question. And that wouldn’t do, would it? If she did have this amazing new channel, curtesy of the added energy she carried in her from the time-displaced Laraan as she had merged with her, she needed to be able to use it - for as long as it lasted. Because she was by no means sure if it did last.
There were horror stories on her homeworld from Heleen who tried to do two channels and got depleted so fast that they died at a very young age - some just having passed the 100th birthday. And of course she knew her mother was doing it, but then she always had two other Heleen by her side - a healing channel and an energy channel, Laraan had no such thing, but then she herself was an energy channel.
Once the added energy from the Time-displaced Laraan ran out… maybe this whole mojo was over. She almost hoped so. But while she had it, she had to damn well learn how to wield it. For Stark, for the crew.

She took a breath and just started to channel again, drawing in energy from around her and channeling it into this other energy, or rather, it was a manipulation of energy she realised, now that she tried to do it more consciously. It was as if she took a hold of the energy around them, feeling its subtle vibration, and then simply stopping this vibration, bringing it all to a halt, as if frozen… her hands fisted as she concentrated on this mind image even more, increasing her channelling…

and realised that Stark had stopped moving. She quickly looked out of the bulk window and saw the starts again frozen in motion. She was doing it, she realised… also by the amount of energy that went into upholding this channel. She looked at Orvos, had he just blinked?

  • Laraan, CNS

Orvos then sighed. “Let me guess, the stars aren’t moving either?” He then looked to Stark and Michail. Not a single movement. “Any better idea on how you did it?” he inquired. His senses were going to be wonky for a bit, he imagined. All this stop, start, stop, start. It was enough to make him tipsy. He certainly hoped it wouldn’t do that though. No need to have a ‘drunken’ El Aurian traipsing through the Athena’s halls getting into who knew what.

He looked outside the ship. Had she really frozen all of that? Perspective was everything. Perhaps she hadn’t so much as stopped time elsewhere, but increased the time around her to the point that everything seemed to be frozen in place? Tricky, but he would bring it up when necessary. Thankfully, the bits of the Nexus that had been infused into his body could help in times like this.

-Lt. Orvos Legen, CE

The fact that he was unaffected surprised her so much that she lost her concentration and everything resumed.

“I don’t know Orvos, this is literally the second time I’ve done that. I didn’t know you were fully immune to it all, that’s… amazing.” she said.

  • Laraan

Michail

Orvos sighed. “There are a lot of things people don’t know about me. Shifts in time don’t effect me the same as it does others.”

He then looked to the others present. “And that goes nowhere! That is a highly guarded secret that nobody needs to be aware of.” He gave each one a stern look, but eased up a bit with Laraan, knowing her views of him and his age compared to her. He knew she would be careful. Then again, he also knew Stark would do well with it. The only one he was not completely sold on was Michail, but perhaps in time.
