Koraia chuckled. “Clean up will be a snap. Nice to know that some things in life aren’t always a struggle.”

Turning her empty wine glass by the stem, Ghubari let her thoughts drift a little as she spoke. “I grew up an only child, but I actually have a half-brother from my father’s marriage after he left Earth. We’ve not met yet in person. We know about each other, but my father says Demarcus is leaving it to me to make contact when I’m ready. I haven’t decided under what circumstances to do so, or why I’m not more compelled to. Because the more I hear about sibling stories like yours, the more I wonder what it would be like to have a sibling in my life now, even if we missed so much of each other’s lives.”

“I would encourage you to make contact. You never know what your relationship could be like. You will never be as close as regular siblings - a lack of a shared childhood removes that possibility - but you could end up being friends.” Luka smiled, standing and pacing slightly, a bounce in her step.

Tilting her head, the empath regarded her first officer with curiosity. “Luka?” Whether it was a restlessness borne of their relaxing evening, or something else entirely, Ghubari hoped there had been enough frankness between them that Luka would answer her truly.

Luka stopped, seeming to only have now realized she had been pacing. “Oh, I apologize. I am a naturally restless being. I dislike sitting still for long periods of time, and when I do, I tend to have some pent up energy afterwards that I have to expend. Having a pet that needs regular exercise helps me expend that energy,” she explained.

“I can understand that,” Koraia said with a smile. “It took me several years to allow myself to learn to switch myself off, as it were. Then again, I think the War helped a great deal. Being constantly vigilant for months on end tended to leave you exhausted once you finally could just exist for a small time. And then do that for over two years and afterwards I told myself I needed to use my outlets as much as possible and learn to make some of them inactive ones.” That and she had her meditation, which had changed her life as a young adult.

“We can call it a night, if you like. Or we can wander outside and you can something of the place I was raised in,” Ghubari offered.
