Midnight ship time struck and suddenly all the animals in the Main Science Lab started to keen and fuss like all hell was breaking loose.

Liam had been working late, like usual. He sat in his office nearby as his eyes scanned the various reports, absorbing the supplies used today down to the animal’s feeding schedules. At the sound of the animals’ pandemonium, he jerked out of his thoughts. He turned toward the habitats he could see from his open door. He frowned then set his PADD aside and walked into the laboratory.

“What in the world?” Liam asked himself as he glanced into the nearest habitat.

“Computer, scan the room for any abnormalities. I want reports on oxygen levels, temperature, and especially life signs.”

He suspected an animal had gotten loose and startled the others. Despite their captive condition, some still had to adjust their instinct from the wild and it wouldn’t be farfetched to believe that might’ve been the cause for the hysterics. With precaution on his mind, Liam also pressed his hand to his comm badge.

The computers report took a second to compile. =/\=No known abnormalities, oxygen and temperature at normal specified levels. Life signs stable =/\= The screen readout however showed increased adrenalin in all the animals. They were afraid and all of them were looking downwards at the floor like it was something below them that was the source of their trouble.

Unsure when Jones would arrive, Liam’s teeth gritted harder. His discomfort increased when the computer revealed nothing bizarre, aside from the increase in the animals adrenaline and stress. He stepped closer to a console and ran diagnostic program quickly. Things were not adding up. It caused him to wonder if the computer held some unseen issues or had not calibrated correctly, either would allow an error in the scan. Liam causally caught all the animals’ attention directed at the floor and his own eyes turned to examine it. He expected to be nothing at all.
