Kin awoke suddenly. She was disoriented and wasn’t even aware she had been asleep. Looking around, she was lying on grassy hill on which stood a single tree. It was remarkably similar to the Alvera Trees her parents tended on her home world, but his one bore some odd bluish fruit. Standing, she took a moment to get her bearings… which was impossible, because she had no idea where she was. The last thing she remembered was being on patrol on the ship and then… here. A bright, sunny, warm day with two suns visible high in the sapphire-blue sky. Looking down the hill, she saw a structure set into the side of a low rise. A stone entrance with a single torch on either side, and soft music coming from within.

Va’Ser-la, Security

Kin made her way down the hill and to the entrance, treading lightly and looking around. Reaching the threshold, a woman’s voice came from within. “You are acknowledged. Your presence is anticipated and we welcome to cross into our home with all the blessings and permissions we may bestow. May your steps be lively and true, and my you leave concerns and hostility outside. You are welcome here.” it said in the standard Kreetassan greeting to arriving at someones home.

“I thank you for your welcome and permission. I bring no ill-will and no hateful intent. I will abide by your rules and wishes whilst I reside within your home, and I will strive to leave it a better place than when I arrived.” Kin replied from rote memory.

Va’Ser-la, Security

Stepping into the chamber, Kin saw a simple room with a fireplace at one end and a table with two chairs, one one either side. Seated at the table facing the door was a woman. She wore a flowing red robe and the bridge of her nose was ridged in a similar, but not identical, way that Bajorans possessed. A gold circlet held back firey red hair, and she smiled warmly as Kin stepped inside.

“Welcome, my dear. Please, please. Come sit. I have some… things… I would like to discuss with you. You know, get your somewhat unique perspective on. We have not dealt with your species before, but I am very excited to do so now.”

Kin moved in but didn’t sit. Looking around, she simply said “And whom may I ask am I addressing?” The woman nodded and said “Oh my, my sincerest apologies. I am Jo. I am an… emissary… of sorts.” Seeing no other beings or no other doors, Kin sat looked at Jo. “I am Kin Va’Ser-la. Security officer on the USS Athena. May I please ask how I came to be here? The last thing I knew I was on my ship.” Jo laughed. “Ah, yes. Well, you see, you are still there… and here. Temporal physics and dimensional rifts and all. But do not fear, you are quite safe.”

Kin and the Prophets

Kin could not help but believe the woman, and then took a seat. Jo smiled and said “Tell me, my dear, what do you know of The Prophets?” Kin’s head cocked to the side slightly as she looked at the woman and she said “I’m sorry? What Prophets?” Jo smiled in response and said “Well, that is a… complicated… question. Although not uncommon. The Prophets are a race of entities who inhabit the worm hole near the planet Bajor. Are you familiar?” she asked. Kin nodeed, but remained silent.

Kin and the Prophets

Jo continued. “We exist in a… confusing manner to most beings. We see timelines and persons of note, and how actions will effect your reality. What intrigued me about you, my dear, is that I… didn’t see anything about you. It was like you were simply… there… but removed.” Does that make sense? I’m afraid I am not explaining it well.”

Kin looked at Jo for a long moment and then said “Are you saying I am inconsequential?” she asked. Jo shook her head “Oh no no no… not at all. All beings have meaning. But your… role… for lack of a better term… is somewhat… odd.”
