Orvos looked down at the table as he searched for his words. “I have noticed that since Mr. Chryst’s departure, there have been some reverberating feelings amongst the crew, as though a part of them has been lost. I suspect it has much to do with the transitioning of the timeline sync up. But a part of me can’t help but wonder if Adam had been a part of it, among others.”

“Anything is possible,” she said softly.

He finally looked up and into her eyes. “I know I likely should have said so sooner, but there was never a time I felt it was necessary. He did not appear to be any sort of security threat, and the likelihood of anyone believing a new chief engineer of something absolutely crazy would have been astronomical to be fair. So I felt it was necessary for you to at least know now rather than never, that Commander Adam Chryst was technically never meant to be. He was, it seemed, to be a walking paradox.”

Guhbari felt her chest expand with her breath and then it stayed expanded before she forced it out. Her mind was racing, hunting for the words that would be an appropriate response to his revelation. Nothing seemed to settle in her mind at all. What could she say? Except for the one question that seemed obvious. “What do you mean? Paradox in what way?”

“Time is a funny thing, captain. I can’t be absolutely certain, but most avenues lead to the idea of him being his own creator. I don’t know how exactly it came about, but it is possible that the one thing kept locked away in Adam’s mind, the one thing he could never quite get to, might have been the fact that he created himself.” He paused and looked out at the stars.

“It does make me wonder if that was why he had to leave.” He knew the captain would be feeling all sorts of things, which is why he mostly remained calm and receptive to her. There was a time for all things.

Bending forward, Ghubari rested her arms on her thighs and exhaled heavily. “His own creator…” she murmured. It was hard to fully wrap her mind around but after their last mission it was easier than it would have been at any other point in her life. “I hate time things…” she muttered. What else could she say really? “And Nico went with him. I wonder what that means.”

The fact that Nico had gone with him was not lost on Orvos. “Nico was certainly a not-so-average treecat I imagine? It is possible that Nico perhaps was meant to aid Adam in his quest. Its also possible that adam was meant to help Nico in someway.”

He paused allowing a slight grin to form. “In either case, avoiding time things may be unescapeable at this point, captain. I’m already getting a headache from interacting with crew members who chose 47 minutes ahead as opposed to behind. Something tells me father time isn’t finished yet.”
