Athena’s routine systems check came back with a few unexplained anomalies. Some systems in the communications network were reporting phantom signals that seemed to come from no discernable source. There was also a reading that said some parts of the ship had had a slight increase in mass.

Junior Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

OOC: I think I must have totally forgot about those anomalies. facepalm

OOC Foreshadowing is my superpower :-)

OOC: Sounds about right to me. ;) haha.

IC: Orvos as well, checked the systems to ensure nothing was being effected by the planet. And boy was he dead wrong. Communications systems and increase in mass?

Orvos changed the communication frequencies at which the Athena operated. A fix he could do remotely. But the increase in mass? Orvos used internal sensors to pinpoint those exact locations.

-Lt. Orvos Legen, CE

Mass can be effected by a number of phenomena many of them natural, some not. In virtually every case what increased mass can be detected since the actual mass change has to be connect to some sort of force. Force is energy , energy can be scanned.

R’han

IC
The exact locations were two on deck 8, deck 9, deck 23, and on deck 24 respectively. Specifically in the Heisenberg Compensators in every transporter room.

Junior Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

Orvos immediately tapped his combadge. =/\=Bridge to Engineering. We need teams at every transporter room. Take down the transporters and let’s get looking at the Heisenberg compensators in each transporter. Sensors are showing increased mass within those compensators.=/\=

Orvos then turned to Commander Luka. “Commander, I’m taking down all the transporters. The Heisenberg compensators show they have increased in mass. Given that we don’t know why or if it will effect transport, its better to assume that it is unsafe to use transporters.”

=/\=Acknowledged, Bridge. As it turns out, the instability is apparently caused by a malfunctioning weather system. Our Chief Engineer’s help is welcome on the surface, should he wish to. And if that is the case, then Commander Stark will accompany him, along with Lieutenant Vander.=/\= At least all three could hold their own and with Konral down there, they would have a means of communication should something happen at either location. She also had left the whole thing open to Orvos. She knew he would understand the risk of being in the Mirror Universe and act accordingly.

OOC: Thanks for your patience. I’ve been ill and in pain for the last week and a bit but am doing better, mostly. It’s a day-by-day thing.

Fl. Captain Koraia, CO

OOC: Hoping the good days continue to get better! :)

OOC Echoing that sentiment!

IC: Orvos spoke up. “Yes! I need to get down there. We may be able to find answers to what is going on here, down there.” He arose, wrist devices ready and an engineering kit at his side.

“Seems we have to go pay them a visit, Commander Stark and Orvus you wishing to pay them all a visit?” Konral asked, they needed to grab some gear before they get down but wanted to make sure first beforehand if the team wanted to embark. Ghubari may have said if he wishes but he felt it was less request than order.

Vander, CoS

Orvos grinned from ear to ear. “Absolutely! But, we will need to take a shuttle. I’m going to grab a few things, Mr. Vander, if you want to prep one of the shuttles in shuttle bay 1?”

Stark nodded at them both, “I get the feeling we need to be ready for anything”.

Luka nodded, stepping over to put her hand on the shoulder of each of the officers in turn. “Stay safe,” she instructed them, amber eyes focused. When she touched Stark’s shoulder, she experienced a slight feeling of familiarity for being so close to another furred face. The darkness of his fur was so much like the fur of her brother. She pulled away and turned to Orvos. There was such wisdom in his eyes. Much to be learned from the man who knew of her people. Then to Vander. They hadn’t formed a connection yet, but she would get to know the officer eventually. “Stay safe.”

“Always” Stark replied with an intent look, he looked around the bridge and then back at Luka “I’ve been in the mirrorverse before, the rules are different here, don’t let familiar faces lower your guard, it can be fatal”.

With that, the XO turned away and went back to her chair.

Luka, XO

“I’m leaving Lt. jg Rovan Moor and Ensign Jayden Bennett in charge of engineering while I’m away,” he said before stepping onto the lift.

“Coming, lieutenant?” he inquired of the COS.

-Lt. Orvos Legen, CE

Stark Nightstalker CIO

Laraan hated the fact that there was no reason for her to accompany them, but right now she had to stay on the bridge, even though she felt pretty useless at her aux. science console, with only standard bridge training. Most likey they’d soon forget she even was there in her corner in the back of the bridge.

  • Laraan, CNS

=/\=Koraia to Bridge. Due to the issue with the transporters, I’m taking our guests to the Conference Room.=/\= In other words, help me watch my back with these people.

Fl. Captain Koraia, CO

There was something in Ghubari’s voice over the comm that didn’t sit well with Laraan. She turned to Luka.

“Commander, permission to prepare the conference room for our guests.” she said.

  • Laraan, CNS

“The question should also be why is the problem situated in the compensaters? They are matter-motion calculators that negate the variability of knowing where something is and the motion it is taking. It basically keeps things from getting scrambled during transport. Why would that be affected more or less than any other system.”

R’han

Before the doors to the lift closed, Orvos chimed in one last time. “I’m not totally sure Mr. R’han, but something tells me we may know more from what we find on the planet’s surface.” And with that, the doors to the lift closed.

-Lt. Orvos Legen, CE

Luka tilted her head slightly. “Proceed, Laraan,” she said with a small nod. She turned to R’han. “What experience and records do we have of other expeditions into the Mirror Universe? Perhaps it is the fact that there are more than one of all of us that is making the compensators… affected?”

Luka, XO

R’han pursed his lips. “Much of those records are classified, although given our current situation, I’m certain I can find a way to declassify them. As far as the science of why the compensators are decompensating is beyond me although they are only in operation when in use, so when they have issues ‘off’ probably is based on something beyond too many instances of each of us. ”

R’han

A light lit up on the panel showing that the Athena was being hailed, from the planet below. The channel was being sent on a quantum band and was heavily shielded to the point that it was more a point to point matter stream than a communications tight beam.

Junior Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

“NE Gresh… Please take the hail and send it to the side room. The next highest ranking officer is in charge until I return,” Luka said as she went into the briefing room.

Luka, XO
Ooc: sorry, life’s been hectic

R’han didn’t respond, but that would be him. He moved from tactical and sat in the command chair. “As you wish, Commander.”

R’han

The hail was rerouted and a weathered and balding man appeared on the screen. He took one look at Luka and smiled as if he had seen something unexpected and slightly unsettling. =/\= My name is Reginald Barclay. I’m aware that you have a team en route to the planet and that your Captain is speaking to Eddington as we speak but I thought you might want to be apprised that your ship is in danger =/\=

Junior Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

Luka nodded slightly. =^=I am Commander Luka, Executive Officer of the Athena. My interest is piqued and I am open to hearing what you have to say. What do you know of the danger that is facing this vessel?=^=

Luka, XO

Barclay checked something on a wrist readout device before continuing =/\= We have reason to believe that someone on your ship has been replaced by someone from this realm =/\=

Junior Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

OOC: you can eliminate all the people you’ve seen the duplicate of.
Luke

Ooc: My lack of skill emerges here…i have no idea how to react to this. I mean, as myself I would react one way, but that’s not the reaction of a trained officer....

Mir

OOC Note for all players about my style :-) You’ll always do better by asking more questions, sharing what you find out with other departments and brainstorming in typical Star Trek fashion. I like to drop bread crumbs in many threads that need to be brought together to form a better picture. I know you have to play your characters with what they individually know but sharing is caring as they say, and as soon as you do that… the individual brush strokes will become the picture. In the case of this thread, Barclay holds the info, make him cough it up, then include R’han, Security, The Captain, Science to find a workaround to find the intruder, etc etc. Best rule of thumb with me is, do something, and I’ll make sure you get the next bread crumb in the trail :-)
