“Hmm” Benjamin pondered “So we can surmise some sort of natural defense mechanism, now we just need to figure out how you can control or at least influence the temperature moderately” He paused the cooling for a moment “In previous situations did something special occur? Perhaps a physical threat or other stimuli?” He asked curiously.

Liam took a moment to think. His arm shifted and his chin rested on his fist, trying to recall the various scenes. Each one was different as he tried to draw connections over his actions. With the cooling stalled, his body temperature remained steady and ceased its raise.

“None of the situations were life threatening,” he stated then continued.

“There’s three incidents I recall very clearly. First time, Joseph had managed to score after cheating. He had altered the program to materialize a frozen surface when I stepped into a certain spot. The second was when I had to heat up an animal during an meeting with the XO. The timing was terrible and left me rather angry. The last one, I was caught up in a prank from a junior officer to another. I was forced to change my uniform after I was drenched in soup.”

He frowned at the memories, their recollection drawing up old anger. The temperature in his hand popped up by a few degrees n reaction almost immediately when his temporal lobe flipped from calm.

Benjamin gave a look of mild surprise as he looked at the neurological reading “Interesting, it appears that it is emotional stimuli, at least in part” Ben said more to himself than anything “The creature seems to react to your anger” He turned the display of Liam’s mind so that the Scientist could see “See how your slight change in emotion” He then turned another screen that showed his body temperature readings “Correlates with the rise in temperature. Anger seems to be a trigger of sorts. Perhaps going over further anger inducing memories would help” Benjamin suggested “I’d rather not resort to angering a Colleague. Unless of course if it’s for science”

“Memories work, but they are short lived. There’s also the fact that I… have few of them,” Liam explained.

He didn’t want to fully reveal he didn’t socialize much outside of an immediate circle, which included about three now. The thought of it brought embarrassment to him. At the mention of trying to anger him, Liam suppressed a snort and replied.

“You can try, but considering I can usually hold my patience with Joseph’s pranks… it’s hard to anger me. Besides, we need to see how hot I can get.”

Benjamin nodded “Besides it would be ineffective for me to try, I’m afraid I don’t know you well enough to induce proper anger. Well let’s see” He continued lowering the temperature “I’m going to continue to make it colder, I want you at the same time to think of things that make you angry, be it embarresing memories or facts about the world that anger you. Let’s see if a small combination of two factors can induce the same responce as a major influx of either.”

Liam nodded. He then began to consider his memories. Already his anger from his earlier recollections had cooled so they provided no benefit. His attention dove deeper into the last few weeks while the temperature began to dive, the symbiote discomfort growing with the depleting heat. His teeth slightly grounded a bit in irritation at that fact.

The heat in his hands rose some more, followed by his internal temperature. However, the heat gain was reacting more to the cold than Liam’s attempts to upset himself.

“Why is this much harder than it looks?” Liam blurted out loud.
