Her eyes swept the room seemingly indiscriminately, watching and waiting. Her eyes drank in body language, posture, and where the guests were looking. She listened, but listened to more than just the words being spoken, but also to how they were being spoken.

Kaylee inhaled slowly, taking an easy deep breath. At the mention of the assassins yet again, the duplicate versions of herself and her mother, she felt her own anxiety rise. She knew that this was a very delicate situation, one that her own involvement in could be tricky, seeing as her counterpart was a cold blooded killer.

“We will provide assistance where we can,” Kaylee offered, looking over to Ghubari, hoping she wasn’t overstepping. “However, as we are all aware, we must act methodically and precisely to limit any adverse effects of having two sets of ourselves in the same place. Especially for those of us who’s mirror versions are quite…” She paused, pursing her lips tightly and exhaling before continuing. “Different.”

-Kaylee Baxter

Koraia tapped her fingers on the table for a moment and then leaned forward, giving Kaylee a slight nod of encouragement. “Though we recognize that it might be impossible to prevent all meetings. Especially since we’re apparently going to help with negotiations.” She was slightly amused, truth be told, but she was also weighing all the risks and variables that might need to be considered. “What can you tell us about the Taurus Pact?”

Fl. Captain Koraia, CO

Laraan had returned to the replicator, keeping the profile of a waiter, her back turned to the group. The wig was itching her scalp, but she could ignore that, concentrating on what was said.

Eddington took a second to rub his balding scalp before answering the question. “Back before the Klingon/Cardassian Alliance was dealt with, the Gorn, Tholians, and Breen created the Taurus Pact to give themselves the best chance of resisting the Alliance. In those days the Terran Rebellion had just come to an agreement with the Romulan’s and we were involved in hit and run attacks. We tried to coax the Pact to help but at that time they were in survival mode. Now, we stand paused to start a Federation of our own and the idea came largely from our dealings with your own universe. In essence, we got the idea from you.

Karina’s next call was to the captain. =^=Captain… I think you need to get to medical. We have a situation you need to know about.=^=

Her voice, while relatively calm, definitely had an edge to it.

Karina
Doctor

Ghubari sat there, her body relaxed, and inhaled deeply. =/\=I’m on my way. Koraia out.=/\=

The captain cast a quick glance to Laraan and Kaylee before looking at their guests. “I need to go attend to whatever situation is happening. I’m sure Commander Baxter and Lieutenant Laraan will be interesting company for you.” And you for them, she thought.

Kaylee gave the Captain a nod, and then returned her attention back towards their guests.

Rising to her feet, Koraia gave them all a nod and headed to the door. She paused and looked Delaney in the eyes, holding the woman’s gaze. It was a Be alert unspoken look from one former security officer to a current one.

And with that, the captain left.

Fl. Captain Koraia, CO

Isabel caught the look. It was impossible not to since she was already keeping a good eye on the proceedings. She gave the Captain an almost imperceptible nod and went back to looking as though she was a statue.

Laraan gave a nod and, taking the vacant chair, sat down in Ghubari’s chair, touching her wig once to make sure it was still in place on her scalp.

“That is very interesting, thank you for sharing that background information. I find it fascinating that you took the idea for a Federation from our universe. Which species would be in this Federation if I may ask?”

  • Laraan, CNS

Hopefully, at least in this room, nothing would be happening. Everyone was on edge in this alternate universe and if they weren’t they were deaf, dumb, and blind. Still, the last thing she wanted was to add to the nervous tension she felt by displaying it and the more relaxed her body was, the more easily she could move if or when she was needed.

Eddington took a sip from his nearby cup, “Presently we are allies with the Romulan’s, Vulcan’s and Bajorans, we enjoy a good relationship with what is left of the Andorians and smattering of Trill and Betazoids whose planets were decimated. In fact Curzon Dax, the last trill symbiote will be arriving soon for implantation in a new host as a symbol of the hope we have for the future. The Taurus Pact would give us controlling power in the quadrant if they join. The Klingons and Cardassians are welcome to come to the negotiating table but to date have shown no interest in doing so, present company accepted” he nodded at Iliana who tilted her head proudly.

Rhan leaned in and looked intently at Laraan, “If you don’t mind me asking, what race are you?”.

She looked at the mirror Rhan, trying to find differences to the R’han she knew. “Heleen.” she said and watched their reaction carefully.

OOC: Which species is Eddington? So all these species are fighting against the Terran empire, which consists of only humans?

OOC He’s human, second in command to Miles O’Brien in the Mirrorverse Terran Rebellion.

Kaylee was also keen on the reaction to the revealing of Laraan being a Heleen. She wondered in this universe what the status of the Heleen were, if they were even known at all.

-Kaylee Baxter

“Hmmmm” Rhan looked even more curious. “I’ve heard of a race called the Heelar, but they were supposedly wiped out centuries ago and exist now in folklore only to scare little children”.

Laraan chuckled and in her alien multi-layered voice it sounded like bells chiming. “I bet, I heard the same stories from my grandparents when I was a child. They were distant cousins so to say, but that’s also ancient past in our universe.” she looked at Rhan thoughtfully.

Rhan was looking thoughtful as well.

“So why do you think we are here? I mean it’s not like these chances to travel between our universes pop up every other day or so, otherwise I’m sure we’d already be in much bigger trouble with mirror twins mixing up all the time.”

  • Laraan, CNS

Both men looked at Iliana who steepled her fingers in front of her face before speaking. “That wormhole you came through was a gift from the Prophets. They came to me in a vision not once, but twice. The first time to tell me to come to Risa and the second time on the way to tell me that your Captain and this crew were the only hope to stop a catastrophe that would destroy us all”.

Laraan looked at Iliana with wide eyes. “Well, no pressure, huh?” she said with a slight smile. “Do you see a current situation at the moment that could escalate into such a catastrophe, where we might come in handy? I mean, I’m sure you know of the concept of self-fulfilling prophecies…”

  • Laraan, CNS

Iliana faltered and Eddington stepped into the silence. “None of us know anything other than a series of unexplainable coincidences the biggest of which is the ship I’m sitting in right now. People have come to this realm and ours have come to yours, but never has an entire ship come across. I just hope for your sake that if and when you do what these beings are asking you to that they provide you with the means to get home.”

Laraan just nodded, not trusting herself to say anything at that point. Because anything could be too revealing.

Rhan spoke up, “I don’t have a catastrophe on the planet below, but it could easily become one if your engineer can’t fix the weather and geothermal instability matrix. Having a planet explode around a diplomatic conference would do more than a little to create a problem in this quadrant. The last thing we need is for the Klingons and Cardassians to gain the upper hand again”.

Laraan smiled. “Lieutenant Orvos is a great engineer, I think your weather system is in good hands.” she said and looked at Kaylee, hoping she knew something else to say, because Laran was did have questions, lots of them. But she was almost certain she shouldn’t ask them.

  • Laraan, CNS

Isabel listened, even as her eyes scanned the room. She kept a feel out for any hunches or non-verbal cues that would alert her to any security risk or danger.
