“His wings are too small to provide sufficient lift for the weight of his body. The holodeck does not allow beings to take actions that are physically impossible for them, such as flight for a flightless being,” Luka explained.

“Ahh, I see,” Koraia said thoughtfully.

She dug her toes into the dirt, feeling the softness of the silt and tilting her head with curiosity. She was glad this was only a simulation and the silt would be removed from her fur the moment they left.

Walking along the main road, it wasn’t long before they left the small village behind. It was a strange feeling that she wasn’t entirely sure how to put into words, but this program had shifted at some point into one where being ‘home’ wasn’t so strange for her. The Athena was home, but somewhere along the way this place was home too. “It was strange growing up here. I always felt like I was missing out on something. It wasn’t until I left for boarding school at twelve that I understood what the rest of the world was like, and how most everyone else lived. It’s a strange thing to look around at a place like this now and feel nostalgic for its simplicity.”

“I can understand the feeling of glancing around an environment and feeling nostalgia despite it being a simulation,” Luka nodded quietly. “I must admit, even though we have much technology at our disposal, the people of Galdor do not live with a heavy presence of it. Technology is saved for times when it is necessary, and otherwise it fades into the background. It is a feeling I find myself missing here, with so much technology surrounding everywhere…” Her ears perked forward in interest at a sound - Mukin rustling around in a small bush.

“You’re more than welcome to use this program anytime you like. You’ll find it under Koraia- Tanzania-1.” Ghubari watched Mukin, certain he’d probably found a rodent. “Careful, there’s no large predators in the program, but even a porcupine could be surprising to Mukin. That’s or it’s just a spiny mouse. Or maybe a snake. Lots of those here,” she said casually. It was the holodeck, after all, so nothing would be fatal. But still, no one really wanted to come across an adder, viper or cobra.

At that, the mighty hunter returned with his catch…

A stick.

Mukin pounced and pranced over to Ghubari and Luka, head held high. He was proud as punch, as if he had caught the biggest fish in the pond. He deposited the stick in front of Ghubari, then looked up at her with big, brown eyes, seeking approval.

With a chuckle, Ghubari crouched down and scratched the top of Mukin’s head. “What did you find here?” she said, wiggling the stick before looking back at Luka. “Is he the fetching type?”
