He’d sense her thoughts shifting, and the distinct recognition of what he was saying. Ghubari nodded slightly. She had fought in the War and she had told some of her stories, but the full reality was sometimes hard to find words for. After all these years all she really had was a lingering sensation that would run through her body. Though that was completely aside from the events with the Nighthawk and the massacre of her Fleet. But the rest of it weren’t things she thought of, or rather had allowed to fade into the background of her memories. “I’m sorry for that,” she said softly. She wasn’t apologizing for her as a Captain requiring it, but as a partner knowing it had been necessary to endure. It was the feeling that bubbled up in her that made her want to make it all better.

“Don’t be, it needed to be done. I would do it again.” Konral said, lowering his head slightly he felt a small smile creep over him as he leaned in to kiss her. “It’s what I do, maybe more times for you than others and that’s not just cause you wear those four pips.” he said giving her a small wink as he settled in with her. It was a hard mission, they both knew it would take time to unravel all the events but he was with her, and that was all that mattered.

She smiled softly at him. “Just because it’s necessary, doesn’t mean it isn’t hard to deal with in the aftermath. I can feel it about the ship, and I know you can too. It doesn’t make me as a captain doubt the necessity of orders and actions taken, but I think I’m getting a bit soft Konral, because I want to take away the pain I can feel. And not in empathic sympathy, but because I feel so protective of everyone, of us. I guess Mshuri knew what she was doing when she changed from a leopard to a lioness.”

“Sometimes you can’t, and sometimes you shouldn’t. As much as I may regret the things that happened, doesn’t mean they didn’t help me grow. The same is true of the others, that strife pain anguish, it makes us all who we are. Without it… we wouldn’t ever grow. Wanting to take that away, as well meaning as I know it is would hurt the more I think than help. Least I know it would for me.” he said as he kissed her forehead before pulling her into his arms.

“I know,” she said, snuggling in. “But whomever said wishes were reasonable or even practical.” Ghubari laughed lightly.
“I’m going to call my parents tomorrow. Or at least send a message. But I bet you dinner tomorrow that she’ll just say ‘I was expecting you to call soon. What’s wrong now?” The whole idea made her smile.

That… that sounds like her. Konral admitted as he felt content in that moment. From the day he meet Ghubari nothing had been easy, she was perched in her ivory tower avoiding contact it felt back then. The truth wasn’t quite the impression but it wasn’t far off, yet despite this he found a connection with her. Their mutual past with his sister delved into something bigger.
This wasn’t to say they didn’t have a few issues, the very moment they got super close she had tried to break up with him. Excuses due to a kiss between their former CE and friend gave her a reason to fear the future. This never stopped Konral for fighting for every inch. Getting to be a part of her mother’s life, was the newest addition. This may have come after nuptials but he felt at peace with the bond he had and the future they were making.
If you want I can call, I have a way with her. I think she likes me… though I am not sure. I am never sure what she likes to be honest, she is a very hard woman to gauge about.

Ghubari couldn’t help but laugh aloud. Oh Konral, that is the biggest understatement. But at the same time, we are so much alike. Fiercely proud and yet we still want the truth, even if it is hard to face. I just don’t know how to explain to her the non-classified version of recent events. How can I look her in the eyes and not tell her that I met myself and we went through terribly horrible things? But she is veryfond of you, so if you want to call her, I don’t think she’d mind at all. And it’s not a bad thing for you to get to know my father just as I am.

Oh I am gonna call her, we will swap recipies… I am sure there are a few things the replicators don’t get right. I admit half of the reason is just to get dirt on you from a child. It’s always the dirt Rain always. Konral said as he leaned in and kissed her as he got up to go to the replicator.
Same old? Want something new? he asked her, he knew her normal routine but thought he would see if she was going to shake it up.
