Ghubari couldn’t help but laugh aloud. Oh Konral, that is the biggest understatement. But at the same time, we are so much alike. Fiercely proud and yet we still want the truth, even if it is hard to face. I just don’t know how to explain to her the non-classified version of recent events. How can I look her in the eyes and not tell her that I met myself and we went through terribly horrible things? But she is veryfond of you, so if you want to call her, I don’t think she’d mind at all. And it’s not a bad thing for you to get to know my father just as I am.

Oh I am gonna call her, we will swap recipies… I am sure there are a few things the replicators don’t get right. I admit half of the reason is just to get dirt on you from a child. It’s always the dirt Rain always. Konral said as he leaned in and kissed her as he got up to go to the replicator.

Oh, is that is? I see now, she teased. It’s all just a cover for your ulterior motives. I should have known better, she added with a fond grin.

Same old? Want something new? he asked her, he knew her normal routine but thought he would see if she was going to shake it up.

She shrugged. “I’m not picky. Hard to beat curry and samosas though. Sometimes I gravitate towards the comfort food.”

“Comfort is nice…” Konral said with a small smirk as he came back with the dishes placing them between us he pushed her back into bed. Today he felt like all he wanted was his wife in his bed next to him. Food and talk and maybe a few other things, but mostly just needed that time. It was something that sometimes could go missing, that companionship he yearned for. He needed that now more than ever from her and he had no desire to let this chance slip through his fingers.

She picked up a samosa and held the triangular pastry in her fingertips as she leaned back. Taking a bite, Ghubari felt instantly transported to the restaurant of her mother’s friend. The soft potatoes and peas, the heady spices and mouth tingling heat- all seemed to calm her. It was funny to her that the spicier the food, the more relaxing she found eating it, but she guessed this had to do with the echo of how her life seemed to flow. “Do you think it’ll last?” she asked, looking over at him. “My parents, I mean. After all, it’s a cliched dream for only children who grew up with one parent, but there seemed to be quite the spark there. And… I guess i like the idea that she’s not alone, that it’s not just on me to make sure she is okay.”

“Well… they had something at one time… long ago. That didn’t die for a lack of love or care. Now… maybe more than ever… it’s a chance to see what really was behind their first meeting. I think in some ways life will be far better for them cause they don’t have the trappings of youth behind them, they can just… be?” Konral said as he leaned back looking up at the ceiling as they spoke. He felt a sense of calm and peace then, all they had gone through had lead to cherishing these quiet moments.
