Still peering down Julien said “I’ll come with, climbing is my hobby, and fall injuries are fun to heal.” he said dryly.

  • Julien Smith, doctor

As they started out down and around the spiral staircase encircling the outer rim of the borehole they started to pick up a glow far, far down in the distance. Wherever this thing led, it was getting closer and closer to the molten core of the planet.

Junior Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

The stairs seemed to go on forever, but at last they were seeing a light. Orvos stopped, deciding that perhaps his drone would get a better visual quickly. He pulled out a circular device and attached it his temple. Whatever the drone’s readings, he would see them in his mind’s eye so to speak. He aimed his hand downward and released the drone. It shot out of his wrist device and expanded itself to its full capacity, three feet long and about a feet wide.

“Let’s see if we can get a better look before we get all the way down there,” declared Orvos as he mentally sent the drone lower and lower down the shaft.

-Lt. Orvos Legen, CE

The drones readout picked up an increasing temperature and a large open space in the form of a hemispheric dome at the bottom.

Junior Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

Orvos looked to Stark, Julien, and Konral. “I’m detecting increasing temperature along with an open hemispheric dome. Something, or perhaps someone is down there?”

He looked downwards as they continued their descent. “You know I may have a way down there, but it will mean you lot getting there before me,” he stated, curios if anyone’s curiosity was piqued.

Orvos brought the drone back up to his level and allowed it to hover near them. “This baby of mine has the ability to transport one individual at a time. Essentially, it will beam you out, saving your bio-signature. Once its reached its destination, you’re beamed back into existence. Much quicker, however it will leave me with having to operate the drone and continue the descent on my own. Thoughts?” He knew full well this sort of tech was not something Starfleet had really used before, but he was a man full of secrets. This was the least of them.

-Lt. Orvos Legen, CE

OOC: I had always envisioned this sort of feature for Orvos’s drone. Not sure if I had mentioned it ever IC or to you Ian in our emails. If you were hoping for us to take the stairs, that’s fine too. Feel free to let me know! :)

-Tony

OOC No problem.

Stark grimaced a little, “That leaves you awfully exposed to anything you might encounter on the way down, but if you think it’s worth the risk then I’m game”.

Orvos nodded. “It may well be worth it. Anyone care to be the first down? If not, I can always just hand over the controls to one of you and I could down first? Whoever has the controls though, will have to continue down the stairs. Thoughts?” he asked, inviting everyone on the away team their input.

-Lt. Orvos Legen, CE

“Your device, your controller, I’d prefer that you operate it. I’m game to be first down but I’ll give that honor up if anyone else has a better idea?”

Stark Nightstalker CIO

Julien just nodded. “I’ll go second.” he said.

  • Julien Smith, doctor

In the distance, two women in dark jumpsuits were approaching at a swift jog. The security cordon made to stop them but they flashed some form of identification and were waved through. One was the half Klingon woman they had seen earlier, the other was Kallen Reese.

As Julien recognised the woman as the one whose murder he was on the Athena to investigate - among other things - he locked down his facial features with a little android help to not show any reaction. He hadn’t known their Kallen, but he had red up on all the reports and read between the lines… his eyes flashed to Stark to see just how good the Caitian’s poker face was. Undoubtedly this had to hit him hard emotionally.

  • Julien Smith doctor

Stark looked at the second woman and his eyes bulged in consternation. Pointing to Kallen he blurted out “Michail said you died!”.

Orvos looked up to see the pair jogging toward them. What was all the fuss about now? Orvos fumbled a bit before speaking up. “State your purpose!” he shouted in their direction. He had placed the circular disc on his temple, readying the drone.

-Lt. Orvos Legen, CE

K’Ehleyr the half-Klingon winked at Orvos but said nothing. Kallen ignored the Caitian’s outburst and spoke directly to Orvos, “Memory Omega has a stake in what’s down there, Director Saavik sent us to investigate”. Without another word, both women continued onwards to the spiral staircase and started to make their way down without a backward glance. The race was on.

Junior Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

Orvos raised an eyebrow. “Stark get ready!” he stated loudly as he sent his drone near the caitian. Stark Nightstalker would feel the familiar tingle of the transport. Once transport was saved in the drone, Orvos sent it nearly full speed to the bottom of the cavern, taking evasive actions as necessary in the off chance the two ladies decided to try and shoot his aircraft down.

-Lt. Orvos Legen, CE

The cavern was very deep but with that, the time was on the drone side and it easily passed the two women who were hurrying for the bottom and paying little heed to the mechanical competition. It took several minutes but eventually, the drone sensed the bottom, a wide and perfectly circular floor of neutronium surrounded by a lake of lava broken only by a small bridge that crossed it at the bottom of the descending staircase. The only other thing down there was a three-foot-high pedestal in the exact middle of the circle.

Junior Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

As soon as he was able, Orvos beamed back the CIO into existence at the bottom of the large cavern. Having beamed him passed the bridge and onto the circular platform, he then took a scan of the pedestal before the drone. “Word to the wise Stark, don’t get caught up in the pool of lava surrounding the platform you’re standing on,” stated Orvos through the drone.

Orvos addressed Julien and Konral as well. “Stark has landed. I’m running some initial scans before I get you two down there.”

-Lt. Orvos Legen, CE

It was the work of minutes for Orvos to get Julien and Konral loaded into the drone and deposited at the bottom of the sinkhole. Orvos smiled a little, even the wily Caitian hadn’t picked the switch. With any luck, Athena’s Orvos was now ready to help with matters on Rura Penthe. Orvos checked his hidden comm device, no word from Rura Penthe yet, he hoped his doppelganger was going to make it through this in one piece. Memory Omega had a lot riding on this and if the Prophets were right then this was a make or break situation for two universes. Orvos looked down into the depths imagining the secrets Stark, Konral, Julien, Kallen and K’Ehleyr were going to uncover down there, he wished he could have gone with them but Director Saavik had other work for him to do. He slipped into the shadows and departed.

Junior Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

Stark looked at Julien and Konral and then back at the pool of lava surrounding the platform they were standing on. He started walking towards the raised dais in the centre aware of the sound of footsteps running down the stairs above him. “This is surreal,” he said to no-one in particular.

Stark Nightstalker CIO

Stark stepped up onto the raised platform and looked more closely at the dais.
