He scratched his jaw and felt a hint of a growing stubble, mentally reminding himself to shave after his shift he grabbed one of the PaDDs at his desk and tapped it “Dr Lemann, Jessica A.” He read aloud, he didn’t really need to as he’d memorized the file when he first received it. However, reciting info like that from memory often freaked people out. He inhaled through his nose deeply before continuing, quickly memorizing the new scent “Five brothers all fleeters” He chuckled “I think I might have been in the Academy at the same time as some of them” He looked up “Says here your fathers a doctor, is that what inspired you for this profession?” He asked.

Dr. Grey - CMO

Jessica’s eyes flicked to Grey’s hand rubbing at his jaw as she waited for him to peruse what she assumed to be her personnel file on the PaDD. As he mentioned her background, her eyes made their way back to watching his own, meeting his gaze when he looked up. She smiled fondly as she thought about her siblings, although she couldn’t help but wince slightly at Grey’s mention that he may have attended the Academy with some of them. It was the youngest sibling’s curse to feel like she was never going to be completely out of the shadow of her ambitious collection of older brothers. “Pretty much,” she responded, her tone fairly casual. “I enjoy taking care of people and my father included me in his work from a young age. I think he knew that I was his only chance, although two of my brothers did eventually go to medical school as well.” Her head tilted to the side as she studied Grey’s reaction to her response before returning the question, “how about you? How did you end up in medicine?” She sat back slightly, intent on listening to his reply.

The Doctor listened to her story intensely, as if he gleaned a great bit of insight from it, it seemed at least to interest him no small bit. Benjamin smiled slightly at the question and crossed his legs carefully “I grew up on a farm in south Scotland, had a talent for the veterinarian arts. My father, much like yours, was a doctor, he encouraged me down the path and trained me in regular medicine aswell. I suppose I always had an eye for it” He shrugged “In any case, I was accepted into a medical program and went straight into the fleet afterwards. Here I am” He gestured his office “Now if you will, give me some background into your chosen specialty, your experience. What you know and what you can do if you will” He smiled slightly at his question.

Dr. Grey - CMO

Jessica listened to Grey’s story with interest, cherishing the opportunity to learn more about her new superior and appreciating his willingness to answer her turned about question. She nodded approvingly at his query into her skill set. “My primary training is in general internal medicine,” she began. “I attended a medical school on Earth, so humans are my specialty, but I have a good foundation in most of the species we interact with. I’d say that I’m more of a breadth doctor than a depth one; if you start getting into surgery or rare disorders of Saurians, I’m competent enough to help, but to also let you know when I’m out of my area of comfort.” As she started speaking, her face lit up with delight. Her love of her profession was extremely obvious and she was clearly comfortable with the bounds of her skillset.

Benjamin nodded at her explanations, making mental notes of her appraisals of her knowledge. She seemed to lack an obvious Ego and was well aware of her limitations, as many of the Doctors on the ship were, a fine talent for sure but sometimes an ego was necessary for the job, something to consider. After a moment of compiling his thoughts he smiled again and started speaking “Excellent, it’s good to know your limitations, but do understand that out here we break limitations as often as we can. This is a big ship and more often than not things happen that throw us out of our comfort zones, try to prepare yourself for that eventuality.” His voice was soft “Now tell me ltitle about your experience in the fleet and what it is you hope to do here?” He asked curiously “What do you want to do with your career?”

Dr. Grey - CMO

“Of course,” Jessica confirmed. “I’m looking forward to experiencing a larger ship and the wider variety of concerns that may be encountered. As a medical ship, the Ogawa had a fairly small crew and many doctors covering all fields, so my practice was quite limited to my particular specialty. I do love to learn about other areas of medicine.” The delight still hadn’t faded from her features as she spoke, her speech pattern quickening in her excitement.

She took a few moments off from speaking to breathe and collect her thoughts for Grey’s next set of questions. “Well, that covers my most recent experience. I was assigned to another ship briefly after I completed my Starfleet training, but I wasn’t there long enough to gain much experience except in the treatment of Caitians.” She grinned briefly remembering her friend there before growing more serious. “I don’t have any true career goals other than helping people.” She offered a small shrug to emphasize her point.

Benjamin smiled at her quite refreshing point of view, having spent so much time with climbers he’d forgotten how much such enthusiasm was enjoyable. “Well my advice on that front is be the best doctor you can, talent and abilities are easily recognizable.” He shrugged “Constant improvement is the name of the game, you don’t know what skills will be helpful in the future so gather those you can” He paused “Before we get to your place on the duty roster, do you have any questions for me?” He asked.
