The dilation had progressed slowly to 7cm and Meryidiyth seemed in no hurry to appear. The sensors had managed to identify the Heleen energy which seemed to be situated in the nucleus of the cells throughout the little child’s body and was particularly present in the prefrontal cortex.

There were still isolated cases of matter transformation coming into sickbay but word had got out amongst most of the crew that the holodecks were a safe haven until such time as a more permanent solution presented itself. Ship function was impaired but not brought to a standstill.

Junior Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

Karina was back and forth between the new arrivals and the pending delivery. The idea that the child, still yet to be born, was more of a help than she could be, was a bit daunting. Infants, especially unborn and newborn, were supposed to be helpless and useless. She was amazing at how unphased the parents and Doc seemed to be at all that was occurring. But it fascinated her so much on a professional level, she was actually non-plussed on the personal side. Later, thinking back on her day, she may shudder at the idea of a small creation inside of her dictating how things would go, but right now she was steady and unshakable.

As the Doc checked the most recent dilation, she smiled at couple. “You two and your story are such an inspiration to other cross species couple I can’t imagine how proud you must be. You are going to be amazing parents.” She would have to ask the Doc later about perhaps collecting information and creating a file on the Haleen assistance with the whole process. Perhaps it would help others in need of conception help.

She spent the next several minutes preparing the delivery bed for the child and making sure the temp was correct for newborn as well as being well within the confines of the protective field. To keep the transition as seamless as possible. “Doc,” she said several minutes later as she brought a tray to the group and offered him his choice of a stimulating drink, some tea and some juice. It had dawned on her as she passed the replicator that no one had eaten in a while. There was also tea and water for the parents if they wanted, though she doubted mom would take more than a bit of water at this point.

Ben allowed Karina to handle the preparations as he assisted a few of his other doctors with a handful of diagnoses before returning. Right now the highest priority patient was the pregnant Vulcan, having already dealt with the tripple eyed junior officer and stomach pains. When Niles brought the tray he realised how extremely hungry he was “Thank you doct…” he paused as he took a cup of tea “Thank you Karina” he smiled as he took a sip. Tea, how very English of him. He chuckled slightly at himself as he looked over T’Pons readings once more.

Katrina nodded, “You’re welcome, Sir,” and turned back to fiddle with equipment that was already set up. But not before a so crimson blushed her cheeks. She couldn’t remember the last time he’d called her by her first name. Then she remembered, the day they had discussed the choices they would make with which self would be given space in this timeline.

She wondered now if she had been to obvious in her respect towards the man. Shaking her head that she was being foolish, he probably had half the officers on the ship vieing for his attentions. “Everything is ready, sir,” she stated then smiled at the expectant parents.

Katrina
Doctor

Jessica smiled gratefully at Karina as she did much of the legwork to prepare the area and the other medical personnel for the rest of the birth. She leaned carefully against the biobed near their patient’s head, intending to be as unobtrusive as possible, but remaining in the area since their number of patients was about to either double or triple. She checked the biobed readout once again, ensuring that all remained on as normal a trajectory as anticipated given the several usual factors involved in the birth.
