OOC: Apologies here, I’m just coming back from LOA, let me pick this up tomorrow after some sleep :)

Bump

After making little progress, Liam decided to attack the problem at the source. He left the labs and turned into the corridor, moving quickly. He had little time to waste while the transporters were malfunctioning. As he turned another corner, his thoughts flipped through possible solutions. His figure walked into the transporter room then spoke.

“I need information over what you’ve discovered and any solutions you’ve tried.” Liam wasn’t sure what exactly had happened before he arrived, but he hoped someone had a short summary of it.

Kurok looked up from a fried panel. “We’ve tried everything we can think of to shut down the two matter streams coming through the system but every time we try, the energy just seems to flow out into the circuitry at double standard rates and toasts everything. Somehow we’ve got to block the matter stream from coming in sir.”

“Kurok suggested setting up a transport inhibiting field, but we need a big one. How about using probes to redirect a field generated by our deflector around the ship? Either that or I can take shuttle out with a few others and use their deflectors to do the same”

Lt j.g. Rovan Moor, Engineering

OOC: Trimmed some backlog, if I trimmed too far then I apologize.

IC: Liam bit back a sarcastic quip as he focused on the task.

“We already know the inhibitor field works as we used one on one of the biobeds, saving an officer. Signal boosters help, but only for a whole room. Several aren’t even close enough for a whole ship.” He sighed then continued.

“I suggest trying the probes first. If they fail, we can consider the shuttle based on what we learned. The probes can also move for the best coverage.”

Kurok chimed in, “Shields would be an option as well” he said with a frown.

Liam’s eyes shifted to Kurok. He quietly exhaling his breath out through his nose and replied. “Shields weren’t mentioned as an option earlier, unless I didn’t catch it. How would that work?”

He turned his head to study the man and hear out his idea. He wasn’t an expert in Engineering after all.

“Has the downside of making our shields unavailable but in theory, the shields could be adjusted to give the same field that is being used in sickbay locally. I read about it in a mission report somewhere, where they turned the shields into holoprojectors. Probes could do the same thing but we’d have the devil’s own job moving around and keeping them in sync with the ships… however, that’d still leave us with shields functional for other things…”

Junior Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

“Shields might have better coverage and is what we need. If the crew can’t get to their stations and something happens, we’re sitting ducks until the probes move.” Liam commented then looked to the two men.

“I think the shields are best. We just need to ensure everyone is ready to protect the ship in a worst case scenario.”

–CSO, Liam J. Madison, Sci

Kurok’s eyes narrowed. “I could try and create a workaround to put the shields back into defence mode quickly from the new configuration. Regardless I need your help to calibrate the shield matrix to block the transporter signature. That’s more your department than mine”.
