A couple minutes later, a petite Human woman stepped out of the office, tucking her chin length blond curls behind one ear. Her vivid green eyes quickly scanned the room, spied Jessica and the woman moved over to greet her.

“Lieutenant Lemann? I’m Janna Kingston,” she said offering a hand. “Assistant head of the department.”

Jessica bounded to her feet as Kingston approached her, leading with her hand to firmly shake the counselor’s. “That’s me,” she commented with a grin, her own slightly darker green eyes meeting Kingston’s. “Thank you so much for fitting me in, I really appreciate being able to check off these boxes so that I can report in for duty.”

“Not at all, happy to sit down and have a quick chat,” Janna said with a warm smile. “Come on in and get comfy.”

Jessica returned the smile as she followed Janna to her office space.

Inside the modest space, Janna had divided the space into two. One was more clearly an ‘office’ area with a desk and a couple chairs, while across the room was set up mush like a cozy little living room with a plush teal sofa, two arm chairs in a dark grey and a glass-top coffee table with dark wooden legs in between. The table sat upon a thin decorative rug in soft blues and greens that painted something of a wave effect through the weave. A tall fern-like palm tree sat in a corner and an orchid stood on a floating shelf on the other side of the sitting area. On a small shelf near the desk a dark leafy plant hung half way to the floor and sat next to a couple picture frames angles towards the desk. Other than that, the place was clean and uncluttered, aside from a framed panoramic photo of an ocean landscape.

“I was just going to grab a coffee. May I grab you anything from the replicator while I’m there?” Janna asked.

As the door slid open to Kingston’s office, Jessica took a moment to glance around, enjoying the calming presence of the color scheme that the counselor had chosen for the space. She noticeably perked up regarding the mention of coffee and nodded enthusiastically. “I’d love a coffee as well,” she replied.

“Alright then,” Janna said with a smile. She clarified Lemann’s preference and wandered over to the replicator.

Assuming that they would be headed to the more comfortable sitting area, she briefly glanced at the couch and the chairs again to assess her options and then quickly tucked herself in one corner of the couch, leaning back and crossing her legs in a relaxed manner. While her physical movements were quick and almost twitchy, they still had an air of deliberation to them. As she awaited the counselor and the beverages, she pulled her long blonde ponytail over her shoulder and combed her fingers through it. It wasn’t so much of a nervous twitch as just a comforting habit.

Kingston moved across the office and set Jessica’s coffee down, opting for the arm chair across from Jessica without any fuss. She sipped on her drink for a moment before getting right into it. “So, I obviously haven’t had a chance to review your file, but give me the basics. Where were you before and what brings you to the Athena?”
