Assuming that they would be headed to the more comfortable sitting area, she briefly glanced at the couch and the chairs again to assess her options and then quickly tucked herself in one corner of the couch, leaning back and crossing her legs in a relaxed manner. While her physical movements were quick and almost twitchy, they still had an air of deliberation to them. As she awaited the counselor and the beverages, she pulled her long blonde ponytail over her shoulder and combed her fingers through it. It wasn’t so much of a nervous twitch as just a comforting habit.

Dr. Lemann

Kingston moved across the office and set Jessica’s coffee down, opting for the arm chair across from Jessica without any fuss. She sipped on her drink for a moment before getting right into it. “So, I obviously haven’t had a chance to review your file, but give me the basics. Where were you before and what brings you to the Athena?”

Jessica gave Kingston a grateful smile as she set the coffee down and forced herself to wait a moment before she picked it up and took several small sips, a twinge of happiness tracing over her features at one of her favorite beverages. Soon enough, though, she redirected her attention to the counselor.

“I’ve served on the Atlantis and the Ogawa,” she commented. “My tour on the Atlantis was my first. I was pulled off the ship mid-mission to tackle a medical crisis and then placed on the Ogawa temporarily until a spot opened up on the Athena.” She made a show of pulling in a deep breath after the lengthy summation of her short Starfleet career thus far. “I’m looking forward to staying in one place,” she added with a grin. “Granted, I knew that I’d be all over the place after I joined Starfleet. I didn’t much enjoy the planet-based medical profession, so I ended up in Starfleet.”

Dr. Lemann

Janna nodded. “Unexpected changes can force us to adapt, for sure. Aside from staying in one place, what do you think you’d like to accomplish here as you settle in?” She wasn’t the confrontational sort of counsellor who puled at threads and poked at holes, though she could be forceful when the situation required it. But she really did enjoy simple conversations with new crew members.

Jessica’s blonde head tilted to the side as she gave the question some thought. “Honestly, I’m not sure,” she replied after a few moments. A quick grin curved the corners of her lips upward. “I’m more of the live in the moment type. I mean, I assume you weren’t looking for the usual serve the Federation, treat my patients, grow my medical skills answer, get to know the crew, and all of that.”

Dr. Lemann

A grin spread across Janna’s face. “Nah, that would be boring. You don’t strike me as the boring type.”

Kingston sipped her drink again, allowing a moment to pause and think. “Any particular challenges or difficult moments in the last year or so?” she said.
