“I… Am ready.” He surprised himself by saying. His eyes had followed her around as she went about her business, fascinated. He turned to say farewell to the odd Caitian Commander but found the man had slipped away. That was strange as well… Perhaps he would visit the Commander at a later time. He was curious about Stark’s Vulcan family ties. Looking slightly perplexed, he glanced back to Jessica. “Does he always disappear that way?”

OOC: Sorry, Ian! We got post-y. :)

OOC No problem, love the enthusiasm and interaction. Thanks for posting me back in.

IC:

“Great!” Jessica responded, her demeanor lighting up with enough enthusiasm for both of the pair. She followed Va’rek’s gaze to searching for Nightstalker and laughed softly when she saw that he had quickly exited the area. Shaking her head with a bemused grin, she nodded at the Vulcan. “He tends to appear and disappear as is convenient for him.” Her tone was fond, not adversarial, however. She’d enjoyed her brief conversation with the CIO when she’d joined the ship herself and she had a feeling that they would get along quite well if they spent some time together. “I’m sure he’d love to join us, if you want, but he can be a little intense,” she commented as she began to make her way to the entrance of Sickbay, her walking pace rather quick for someone of her stature. “All right, to 17 Forward we go.”

Va’rek frowned slightly, straightening one sleeve cuff with long, callused but delicate fingers. “Does this mean I am cleared for duty?” He asked, faltering only slightly. He tried not to show it, but he felt a pang of fear at the thought of being put on medical leave and having no work to focus on during his… during his what? Anxiety? Grief? For half a moment he was again lost in thought. The paralysis of anxiety threatening to overtake him. It was frustrating because he’d felt so… free… only a moment before. He enjoyed interacting with Doctor Lemann. Even as he fought off one worry, another rose to assault his mind. She was good, solid, kind… and he was broken. Not at his best. Surely she wouldn’t want to spend any amount of time with such a failure. However, very little, if any of this inner turmoil actually showed in anything beyond his basic body language.

Va’rek’s question stopped the blonde ball of energy mid-step. She rocked her weight back to be more even across her feet and then slowly turned to study the Vulcan. There was something about him that nagged at her, particularly combined with the physiological signs she had noticed in her examination. He was likely fit for duty and she knew that he would have to clear a psychological evaluation as well, but there was just something, that small, almost imperceptible twist in her stomach that raised a red flag to her. Her eyes briefly searched his and then her gaze crept down his body slowly, resting finally on his chest. Behind the slightly too baggy uniform tunic, she could see his chest inflating and deflating more rapidly than the situation would expect, but he showed no other obvious signs of anxiety or discomfort.

Her eyes returned to his own as she swept her arm over her head, gathering her hair to one side and then running her hand along it until it was neatly collected over her shoulder. She brightened as if there had never been a doubt in her mind as she firmly responded, “yes.” She gave that single word a moment to linger before winding her long hair around her hand as her grin turned remarkably impish. “But I may require more meals in front of me. It seems both of us newcomers could use a friend.” With that, she tossed the hair back over her shoulder and spun back, returning to her trip to Sickbay’s doors as if he had simply asked the time of day.
