Not wasting time, Liam began to shut off the non-essential systems draining the power. Starting with the most draining ones first. Then he pushed the spare energy into the emitters just to keep them going. Once more, he looked back over the oddities with the matter, namely the times it happened, location, and anything to help clue him into solutions.

There seemed to be a curious pattern to the energy that was trying to penetrate their modified transporter inhibiting shields. A 3D rendering of the ship from the scan information would probably reveal more.

Kurok mused as he looked at Rovan, “I was wondering sir, we’re safe from this “matter swapping” energy for the moment, but if we get attacked by a ship we’re a sitting duck”.

Liam softly shook his head. He brought up a 3D representation of the ship on the console. His hand clicked across the panel as he tried to locate the foreign energy source. He flipped and rotated the image about, scanning the data. Meanwhile, he interrupted the other two’s conversation.

The energy was clearly hitting the modified shields in ripples such as you would get on a pond if you threw a pebble into it. The pattern perhaps could be traced to its source.

“I’m not a superstitious man, but considering the Athena’s mission record… I rather not take the risk of making things worse by talking about such possibilities.”

Kurok shivered involuntarily, “Not having shields to protect us from whatever is out there makes me feel strangely… naked”.

It didn’t take long for a pattern to appear to Liam. After he traced the energy back to its impact point, he worked on finding the origins. He tried to recall if he had seen or read about the pattern before.

Spotting Kurok shivering, he commented using the same metaphor. “Then lets solve this puzzle quickly and put our clothes back on.”

The energy waves assaulting the ship were coming directly from Risa, the beginning of their journey.

Kurok furrowed his brow, “We’ll we could run some subroutine macros that would quickly reconfigure the shields back to their normal use in case of a firefight… however then the energy waves are going to penetrate the hull again. we’d need to figure out safe places for all the crew for if we lowered the anti transport shields and put them back into normal use… we’d also have to brief the crew on how long they’d have to get to safety if we swopped them over…”
