and that was when the red alert siren rang out announcing an imminent core breach.

Jessica’s blonde head whipped up from her study of the Vulcan’s vital signs as the klaxon rang out. Her eyes instantly filled with tears again as she forced herself to focus on Grey. “I… assume there isn’t anything we can do to help,” she remarked, trying to force her normal levity into the situation, but her voice trembled over the words.

Ceres turned over to the doctors, his face a mask of concentration. “Where there is life, there’s hope,” he said nodding his head slowly. Within the holographic shell of Ensign Ceres, the real Michail thought to himself, “If only the future was as fixed as we’d like”. Turning his holographic Asian features back to the doctors he spoke again. “Drinks are on me when we’re all out of this mess”.

Ben felt a lump in his throat form, clearing his throat he forced a smile “Don’t worry” He put an arm across Jessica’s shoulder “The Captain’ll get us out of this” He tried to comfort himself as much he tried to comfort the others “I’ll take you up on that, no synthahol rubbish though” He made a mental note to hide flasks in each Sickbay if they lived through this. “Let’s focus on our Patients Doctor Lemann, trust our crewmates.”

Jessica leaned briefly into the comforting arm around her shoulder, the finest shreds of understanding remaining enough to keep her from wrapping her arms completely around her superior. With that, she forced herself to separate from him, nodding in agreement to both of his comments and offering a small smile through watery eyes. “A drink would be much appreciated after this.”

A quiet voice gradually coming out of her stupor said, “Where’s my baby?”

T’Pon

Jessica had followed her superior’s instructions and remained busy around her patient, doing her best to ensure that the area was neatly organized and T’Pon was monitored carefully. Even then, though, the quiet voice surprised her in her state of anxiety and she quickly whipped around to look at the woman. Forcing a comforting smile onto her features, she hoped that the tracks from the salty tears had dried as she spoke, willing her voice to be calm and even, “Your husband is finding her.”

Benjamin’s mind turned back to when the child was taken when the kidnapper asked him to turn off the inhibitors that allowed the kidnapping to take place in the first place and he suddenly felt the whole weight of his shame hitting like a tsunami. He turned away and went to assist an officer with a cut he got during the previous panic, trying his best to seem composed and in command.
