“Uggh,” she said with a shake of her head. “One does not research jazz.” Ghubari’s face was stern but only for a brief moment before she smirked. She slid over a bit on the bench to make room and patted it. “Come on, I’ll show you jazz.” Many of the crew might decline the offer because they were too nervous or thought they presence would be an imposition to her. And perhaps sometimes it could be when all she wanted was to relax and clear her head. But music was one of those universal languages. You didn’t have to know how to play or sing to have some music of some kind resonate with you. She didn’t know the Vulcan’s status in the realm of emotion but regardless, she was certain she could make him understand jazz even if he didn’t experience it in the same emotional way she did.

A confused Vulcan has a certain look… Va’rek wore that look now, but for reasons he couldn’t quite make clear to himself, he sank down on the bench where Koraia had motioned him to. The music had stirred something in him, and though he was very much afraid of it, it made a perverse sort of sense to face this fear now at this moment. His motions had the subtle worn-out feel of someone who’s been on their feet way too long, but he sat straight and managed to meet the Captain’s eye. “What do you mean?” he asked.

Two of Marishka’s servers walked in and stood at a discreet distance for a few seconds to see if the Captain or her companion needed anything.

When the Serves approached, Va’rek caught the movement from the corner of his eye. He looked over one shoulder at them and back to the Captain, his brows rising just slightly in question.

Ghubari gave a subtle shake of her head. She was good for now. Besides any empath worth her salt knew when someone dear approached. Her ndugu had snuck up on her a grand total of one time and she had been under the influence of her iboga at the time, so she wasn’t convinced it even counted.

A shadowy presence spoke with quiet passion, “Jazz must come from your soul, an asynchronous harmony of a turbulent but ordered diachrony that reflects sentient intellect on the existential level. It cannot be researched, only experienced through creation.”

Stark smiled, “or so I’m told”.

Marishka had seen Stark enter form a vantage point she had but not very many people knew about.
‘What an interesting night this is going to be.’ she silently mused before ringing a chime that brought the servers to the bar and leaving a few minutes later with orders to be taken to private quarters.

“I’m pretty sure I never used those words,” Ghubari replied with a smirk before looking at Va’rek. “Don’t mind Stark. He prefers life to be poetic.”

“Jazz is poetry,” Stark said with a straight face, “and I definitely do not use big words to compensate for my lack of expertise in any given area”.

The Vulcan raised one eyebrow and spoke in a deadpan tone, just a hint of irony audible. “There are Vulcan Poets…” It wasn’t a smirk, but it was as close as he allowed. His slender hands settled on the keys though, and he placed his fingers gingerly before softly arpeggiating a C Minor chord.
