The Vulcan exhaled a bit more stiffly than he’d meant to, being jabbed in the ribs with an elbow, but carried it off fairly well. Va’rek was somewhat better at adjusting to human-style social interactions than other Vulcans… But in his recent state, it did take a lot of energy to perform thusly. He was simultaneously glad about Jessica’s close proximity and apparent comfort, but also apprehensive and beginning to feel pangs of disconnect. As if he were watching himself do and say these things but not quite participating. The effect wasn’t entirely unpleasant, but it meant something was wrong. His mind was employing defensive tactics to keep itself from overloading, he knew that, but couldn’t stop it. Dissociative episodes were often symptoms of PTSD, or Anxiety Disorder. Sometimes even deep Depression… He raised a brow and nodded a greeting as Nightstalker joined them. “Welcome,” Va’rek began, thinking back to Stark’s words about having Vulcan family ties. “Will you join us?”

-Va’rek

“I tought I already as” Stark said cracking his neck vertebrae back into place, “But thank’e kindly good sir”

Orvos grinned. The caitian rarely needed an invitation for such things, but he was sure it was appreciated. “Of course he will.”

He then turned back to Va’rek. “The reason I ask about the sonic showers, is that we’ve had certain complaints and wanted to see if you would be up for the task. Just minor adjustments needed as per the occupants. What do you say?” Yes, he could have ordered the man to do so when he reported in. But he found that asking usually yielded better results. It also told him a lot more about the person depending on their response.

Orvos was also keenly aware that it was likely Stark knew exactly why he had even mentioned it.

-Lt. Orvos Legen, CE

OOC: Sorry for missing this guys! I’m back in the saddle now. ;)
-Tony

“Sonic showers be very pers’nal things,’ Stark said with a very studied look, “One dusn’t wants nobody walkin in on e whilst ure avin one, does one?”

Stark Nightstalker CIO

Several responses to the course of the conversation drifted rapidly through Jessica’s brain, including a few snarky ones about bringing work topics to her attempt to relax and feed her new Vulcan friend. Couldn’t Legen wait to give his junior a to-do list until some other time, when he was on duty? A slightly annoyed huff of air escaped her lips as she forced the more cantankerous conversation topic out of her brain, emphasizing with with another sip of the brandy. She snatched up another French fry and pushed it into her mouth, chewing thoughtfully and remaining remarkably silent as another comment traced through her brain about the CIO’s ridiculous accent. Instead, she picked up the next fry and held it out to Va’rek as an offering, her green eyes sparkling.

Dr. Lemann

Va’rek watched Orvos as the man spoke, looking about as appalled as a Vulcan could. “I would, of course, follow whatever orders you issued, Sir… But my talents tend more toward the theoretical, and I have been an engine specialist for many years.” He paused and glanced at Stark as the Caitian mentioned that Showers were personal things.
“Yes… Quite.” He stammered. The Vulcan managed to get this out without sounding overly arrogant, somehow, only to find that Jessica was holding a french fry in front of him in a manner most… undistinguished. Unconsciously, he raised an eyebrow and directed his hazel eyes to the Doctor for a long moment. He was tempted to accept the offering from her outstretched hand, but the familiarity of it before the eyes of others… Instead, his fingers gently brushed hers as he plucked it from her hand and popped it into his mouth. Forgetting his dignity at the taste, he spoke with his mouth full…

“This is potatoe? A tuber?”

-Va’rek

A giggle almost escaped Jessica’s lips at Va’rek’s obvious discomfort at her offering. Her eyes twinkled even more brightly as his fingers brushed hers and she watched him consume the fried potato. She both nodded and spoke her affirmative response, drinking another sip of the brandy as she watched him enjoy one of her favorite dishes. Her eyes drifted down to the plate in front of him as she pondered what his dish tasted like and, deciding to seize the moment, she snagged one of the piece of his fried okra and popped it into her mouth before he could react, chewing thoughtfully and slightly exaggeratedly.

“Hmm, not bad,” she commented once her mouth was empty. “Still prefer the tuber,” she commented, selecting a small, particularly crispy fry and munching on it, her tone containing just a hint of playful mocking at the Vulcan’s previous question.

Dr. Lemann

While the pair were busy for the brief moment with each other, Orvos gave Stark a quick eye roll and decided to change things a bit. “Alright you three, time for a game. The entertainment area of this place has a lot to offer. I’m privy to billiards myself, however I’m open to other sorts of games as well. What do you say?” He figured Stark would always be up for it, but the other two were new. No telling what they might say or do just yet.

-Lt. Orvos Legen, CE

“Please,” Stark said looking at Lemann in particular, “Too much sugar in one’s diet requires exercise and right now the atmosphere seems particularly… sweet”. He looked at the billiards table, “You’ll have to teach me how to play the game, strangely whenever I’ve been near one of those people end up using all of the equipment as weapons on each other, I’ve never seen its true purpose”.

The conversation between the two officers had quickly shifted Jessica’s attention back to them and she rolled her eyes dramatically at Nightstalker’s comment. Her fingers crept forward to snag another fried potato and she went to bend it into her mouth, but paused before it made contact with her lips and reached out to offer it to Nightstalker, a look of pure innocence drifting over her features as she raised an eyebrow at him.

Dr. Lemann

Stark flicked out a claw and took it tossing it into the air and finished the motion by closing his teeth around it with a loud snap. He rolled his eyes as well and smiled at the interplay. This one was more of an enigma than he had faced in quite some time, “Salty.” he commented raising his eyebrow in mirror image of hers.

Jess’ face exploded into a smile as she quickly commented, “nah, I’m more sweet than salty.” She offered the CIO a playful wink as she devoured the last few fries on her plate and chased it with the rest of the brandy in a quick and deliberate move. “I’m up for anything.”

Dr. Lemann

Va’rek looked sidelong as Jess gave a fry to Stark, unconscious of one of his sharp brows rising in what was probably consternation. He took a sip of brandy and popped a piece of fried vegetable matter into his mouth, perking up at the mention of a game. “I have never played billiards…” The Vulcan replied. “I have played poker…”
