“Captain,” the Vulcan had come to stand before Ghubari, his hazel eyes filled with dread. He did not look happy. “Our guest,” He made a motion to imply that he meant Merri. “suggested that we use a telepathic link. I do not know the purpose she had for suggesting such a thing, but… I believe if we were to do just that, it might allow our respective abilities to amplify and sharpen. We might be able to use our combined empathic and telepathic ability to find the source of our …troubles.” If there were any other options, Va’rek would have gladly chosen something other than to be joined mentally with anyone, let alone his superior. “We could use your senses like a scanner, and mine like a scalpel.”

-Lt. J.G. Va’rek

Her pale amber eyes gazed deeply at him while her mind quickly went through the options. They were out of time. They had few good options. She was loathe to do this with someone she hardly knew, but it mattered little, not if they could save their ship and all the people on it. She gave a quick nod. “It’s.. something.”

She stood up and grabbed one of the chairs from the operations station. “Grab a seat, Lieutenant. I’m thinking we’re going to want to be sitting for this,” Koraia said as she sat down and tried to make herself more comfortable than she was. The mind was a precarious thing and the only person she was comfortable allowing in there freely was her husband.

“Do what you need to,” Ghubari said, taking a deep breath and closing her eyes, relaxing her body so it wouldn’t create any unnecessary resistance.

=^=The baby is safe=^= Luka’s voice came over the comms.

The Vulcan sat where she indicated and tried to still the inner turmoil he felt. Where that was simply not possible, he tried to build blocks inside himself that would at the very least shield Ghubari from some of the more devastated parts of his psyche. Finally, he leaned forward, raised one trembling hand to her face, and then the other. Temple, cheekbone, and Jaw . The three points of contact. “My mind to your mind.” He said softly, unsteadily. His voice echoed oddly as the connection began. “Your thoughts to my thoughts…” Suddenly he was laid bare in his mind, part of a whole instead of solitary and alone. He gasped, unprepared for the intensity of it.

The flurry of thoughts and experiences mingling was intense and something Ghubari could not have prepared herself for. Instead, she breathed deeply, summoning years of meditational practice to help centre them both. In this, she was successful, at least in part. But she could not filter out the strongest of her experiences, the flashes of things that made her who she was: the Dominion War, losing her leg on Kendor, the pain of having it regrown by the Heleen more recently, meeting her father for the first time, her surprise wedding to Konral. But she brushed by them quickly, seeking something quiet in the middle of their collective thoughts.

I’m sorry… the words echoed and bounced in both their consciousness’. Use me as your amplifier, your spring board. He thought to her. Push out and find whatever it is.

-Va’rek

Here we go. Brace yourself, she said simply. His words helped Ghubari focus, and when she did she found a stronger and keener awareness than her own empathic abilities had given her before. She immediately went on the hunt, seeking out the mind that sought them harm.

Fl. Captain Koraia, CO

In the first moments of her search, Koraia would find Luka’s mind, and would be able to tell that Luka was detecting her hunt and resisting it, until suddenly the empathic strength the alien officer had was turned around to help the captain’s search, boosting her awareness a little bit more.

Orvos then remembered he hadn’t said anything to the other shuttle or the Athena. He established an open to com to the both of them. =/\=Legen to Athena and shuttle. There is a relay station affixed to the aft busard collectors. It appears to be receiving signal from somewhere. Scanning to detect a ship or shuttle nearby and I have a plan. But if we can’t find a ship nearby, you’ll need to destroy that relay.=/\=

-Lt. Orvos Legen, CE

Merri quietly put her hands on Ghubari and Va’rek’s shoulders. Two things happened in quick succession, she dropped her psionic block and connected with them and T’Pon in the sickbay, then their shared consciousness formed a triangulation as they launched into the ether and found Parce who was controlling the link with Athena through a console on his and Hamilton’s cloaked ship. She grasped Parce’s mind in a vice-like grip and held on leaving the others to try and discern what he was doing with the ship.

=^= Captain, coordinates sent to both of you. I’m working on the wrap core.=^=

–CSO, Liam J. Madison, Sci

the warp core ejected out into space…

a split second later a torpedo registered on the sensors heading straight towards the warp core. If it hit before the core could clear Athena they were going to be destroyed.

In a flash of light, a sleek smaller ship emerged from warp and took it out to an accompanying rumble felt throughout the ship.

Barclay clapped his hand with glee, “Cyrano! You’re a sight for sore eyes.”

OOC: alright I’m not to proud to admit it… I’m lost - Luke

OOC Here’s the skinny. Future Meryidiyth is holodisguised on the bridge and is using a psychic connection to triangulate the position of Hamilton and Parce’s cloaked ship which is the base where they’re controlling Athena from (through a relay attached to Athena’s Bussard collectors) Orvos just took out a torpedo aimed at the newly ejected Athena warp core from within the Cyrano which is Orvos and Barclay’s supership outfitted by Memory Omega an organization set up by Spock to change the historical outcomes of the Mirror Dimension. Questions always welcome :-)

IC
Merri punched in coordinates on the bridge console, “They’re there and I’d strongly suggest you take violent action to stop them”.

Next to Athena the Enterprise started to move into a better firing arc.

Va’rek felt lost amidst the seemingly unending wash of sensation funneling into his mind. All at once, everything was open. Laid bare. He could, through Ghubari, feel things from myriad others all around him. Emotions on a level he’d never imagined. It was like standing under a great waterfall, trying to fill a shot glass. There was so much traveling through him that he could barely process before something else took its place. The effect was dizzying and made him feel ill in ways he couldn’t describe. The Vulcan held the connection firm through some strength he’d not known he possessed. How he continued, he did not understand.

He was afraid. All of his fears, inadequacies, anger, guilt… It was hanging there for Ghubari to see and feel and touch. The vulnerability of it hurt him physically. Other fears, pain, panic, from countless other people passed through him. Va’rek recognized one set of feelings and found he could reach out to her. Jessica. As gently as he could, he sent her a nudge. A simple acknowledgment. He hoped she was alright, he knew she was not physically in danger now, but he felt her panic and could do little more than touch it.

Tears began to slip down his cheeks, but he held on to the meld for dear life. Trying to provide what was needed of him.

-Lt.J.G. Va’rek

Well experienced with the onslaught of other minds, Ghubari was far more composed and understood the overwhelm that Va’rek was experiencing. She felt Meridyth’s presence and anchoring of their meld and while Koraia has to take a few moments to centre herself, she had had a plan in mind and it was easier to focus on that than whatever her feelings were at the moment. Later she could reflect on her own feelings of despair and helplessness. It wouldn’t take a behavioural expert to know that one of Ghubari’s weaknesses was being out of control in a situation where lives were on the line. If it was just her own, that was fine. But there were 1100 people on the Athena and some of them were civilians, children. People who hadn’t sworn the oath that she and her fellow Starfleet officers and crew had willingly given.

Gathering all the focus between the three of them, aware that things were happening around them on the bridge but unable to do anything about it. She sent a mental volley at Parce that hopefully would be as good a punch to the face. He should be grateful she was showing restraint.

Ensign Wright looked over at the captain and the engineer and knew that there was no one to give her orders. But it was clear what needed to be done. Their consoles seemed to be working again, so she jumped over to tactical and used the coordinates sent to them for where the hidden ship was and fired a torpedo at them, hoping that she didn’t get into huge trouble for doing so.

A split second before the torpedo found its mark, a Klingon bird of prey appeared out of cloak tethered to the Cyrano that had been effectively masked by being on the other side of the cloaked ship. The torpedo hit the ship square in its rear exhaust port and went up in a conflagration of flame and energy. The psychic link was broken in a short-lived wave of heat and pain as Parce died and was disintegrated.

The Cyrano was hit with the energy wash and spun out of control.

Wright felt a wash of relief as their wrap core was left intact. But there were other issues.

Meanwhile, Ghubari broke out of the link with a small cry of pain as Parce’s demise washed over them. It was not the first time she had acutely felt someone else’s death, but it was the first time she had so directly been responsible in more than an act of self-defence. For someone psi-positive, it was always jolting.

Shakily pulling back from Va’rek, Koraia reached out and braced her hand on the side of the back consoles and pushed herself to her feet. “Report,” she said trying to steady her voice.

On the far side of the screen, the Enterprise was getting underway and moving closer to Rura Penthe.

Junior Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

“Torpedo destroyed,” Wright called out. The Enterprise is shifting position to Rura Penthe.

Down on the planet, there was a sudden implosion as the LMD exploded, seconds later Enterprise let rip with everything she had and obliterated the entire base drilling into the core of the planet until seismic eruptions brought magma to the surface and turned the entire planet into a hellish molten wasteland.

Junior Gamemaster Conspiracy Theorist

OOC: What about our warp core? And feel free to add another NE to provide reports. I’m still trying to navigate what all is happening.
IC:
Silence filled the bridge as the light dissipated from the explosion. “Where’s our people?” Koraia called out, her voice soft yet focused.

Fl. Captain Koraia, CO

As the connection broke and his mind became solely his own once more, the Vulcan sank to his knees and bent his face to the deck plates. Silent sobs wracked his body as he lost all control and wept into his hands. Partial relief mixed and mingled with the guilt and sorrow he still felt traces of inside himself. It was several long moments before he could begin to try and compose himself. A pang of utter shame shot through him for losing himself thus on the bridge, and in front of others.
