OOC Here’s the skinny. Future Meryidiyth is holodisguised on the bridge and is using a psychic connection to triangulate the position of Hamilton and Parce’s cloaked ship which is the base where they’re controlling Athena from (through a relay attached to Athena’s Bussard collectors) Orvos just took out a torpedo aimed at the newly ejected Athena warp core from within the Cyrano which is Orvos and Barclay’s supership outfitted by Memory Omega an organization set up by Spock to change the historical outcomes of the Mirror Dimension. Questions always welcome :-)

IC
Merri punched in coordinates on the bridge console, “They’re there and I’d strongly suggest you take violent action to stop them”.

Next to Athena the Enterprise started to move into a better firing arc.

Va’rek felt lost amidst the seemingly unending wash of sensation funneling into his mind. All at once, everything was open. Laid bare. He could, through Ghubari, feel things from myriad others all around him. Emotions on a level he’d never imagined. It was like standing under a great waterfall, trying to fill a shot glass. There was so much traveling through him that he could barely process before something else took its place. The effect was dizzying and made him feel ill in ways he couldn’t describe. The Vulcan held the connection firm through some strength he’d not known he possessed. How he continued, he did not understand.

He was afraid. All of his fears, inadequacies, anger, guilt… It was hanging there for Ghubari to see and feel and touch. The vulnerability of it hurt him physically. Other fears, pain, panic, from countless other people passed through him. Va’rek recognized one set of feelings and found he could reach out to her. Jessica. As gently as he could, he sent her a nudge. A simple acknowledgment. He hoped she was alright, he knew she was not physically in danger now, but he felt her panic and could do little more than touch it.

Tears began to slip down his cheeks, but he held on to the meld for dear life. Trying to provide what was needed of him.

-Lt.J.G. Va’rek

Well experienced with the onslaught of other minds, Ghubari was far more composed and understood the overwhelm that Va’rek was experiencing. She felt Meridyth’s presence and anchoring of their meld and while Koraia has to take a few moments to centre herself, she had had a plan in mind and it was easier to focus on that than whatever her feelings were at the moment. Later she could reflect on her own feelings of despair and helplessness. It wouldn’t take a behavioural expert to know that one of Ghubari’s weaknesses was being out of control in a situation where lives were on the line. If it was just her own, that was fine. But there were 1100 people on the Athena and some of them were civilians, children. People who hadn’t sworn the oath that she and her fellow Starfleet officers and crew had willingly given.

Gathering all the focus between the three of them, aware that things were happening around them on the bridge but unable to do anything about it. She sent a mental volley at Parce that hopefully would be as good a punch to the face. He should be grateful she was showing restraint.

Ensign Wright looked over at the captain and the engineer and knew that there was no one to give her orders. But it was clear what needed to be done. Their consoles seemed to be working again, so she jumped over to tactical and used the coordinates sent to them for where the hidden ship was and fired a torpedo at them, hoping that she didn’t get into huge trouble for doing so.

A split second before the torpedo found its mark, a Klingon bird of prey appeared out of cloak tethered to the Cyrano that had been effectively masked by being on the other side of the cloaked ship. The torpedo hit the ship square in its rear exhaust port and went up in a conflagration of flame and energy. The psychic link was broken in a short-lived wave of heat and pain as Parce died and was disintegrated.

The Cyrano was hit with the energy wash and spun out of control.

Wright felt a wash of relief as their wrap core was left intact. But there were other issues.

Meanwhile, Ghubari broke out of the link with a small cry of pain as Parce’s demise washed over them. It was not the first time she had acutely felt someone else’s death, but it was the first time she had so directly been responsible in more than an act of self-defence. For someone psi-positive, it was always jolting.

Shakily pulling back from Va’rek, Koraia reached out and braced her hand on the side of the back consoles and pushed herself to her feet. “Report,” she said trying to steady her voice.

On the far side of the screen, the Enterprise was getting underway and moving closer to Rura Penthe.

“Torpedo destroyed,” Wright called out. The Enterprise is shifting position to Rura Penthe.

Down on the planet, there was a sudden implosion as the LMD exploded, seconds later Enterprise let rip with everything she had and obliterated the entire base drilling into the core of the planet until seismic eruptions brought magma to the surface and turned the entire planet into a hellish molten wasteland.

OOC: What about our warp core? And feel free to add another NE to provide reports. I’m still trying to navigate what all is happening.
IC:
Silence filled the bridge as the light dissipated from the explosion. “Where’s our people?” Koraia called out, her voice soft yet focused.

As the connection broke and his mind became solely his own once more, the Vulcan sank to his knees and bent his face to the deck plates. Silent sobs wracked his body as he lost all control and wept into his hands. Partial relief mixed and mingled with the guilt and sorrow he still felt traces of inside himself. It was several long moments before he could begin to try and compose himself. A pang of utter shame shot through him for losing himself thus on the bridge, and in front of others.

-Va’rek, Eng

While she waited for the info to come in and be disseminated, she held out a hand to Va’rek. She reached out and genty brushed his mind , a reminder that thought the meld was over, they were still open to each other to a degree, though it fade would fade fairly quickly. Or so she assumed. She hadn’t ever done a mind meld with a Vulcan before, so she didn’t know fully what to expect. You will be okay, she told the engineer, her certainty a product of experience.

Fl. Captain Koraia, CO

Barclay scanned the area, “The shuttle is back in the bay, Cyrano is back under control and is sitting dead in the water nearby your somewhat scorched but seemingly ok warp core.” Barclay clapped his hands slightly and grinned from ear to ear Enterprise is suggesting that they accompany us back to Risa, we have an orb to reinstall”.

He felt the Captain’s empathic touch and heard her in his mind. Finally, he controlled his breathing and began to compose himself. It took a long moment, but he finally got to his feet, albeit shakily at first. Steadying himself on a nearby console, Va’rek looked up at Ghubari. His voice was rough around the edges, but steady. “With your permission, Captain, I will go and help Lieutenant Legen reinitialize the Warp Core.”

-Va’rek, Eng

“By all means. Get that core back in and going. We need to be out of here asap,” Koraia replied.

R’han made the trip from the shuttle-bay to the bridge in a fairly efficient manner despite the ‘trip’ he seemed none the worse for wear. He gave each bridge staff a look over. They seemed to be more effected than he, which was not uncommon. R’han rarely was emotionally effected by anything.

R’han

Ghubari acknowledged her tactical officer with a nod of her head as Ensign Wright stepped back from the station. She moved back to the centre chair and activated the comm. =/\=Bridge to all Departments. Status Report.=/\=

“R’han, what happened down there?” Ghubari called over her shoulder as she pivoted on the ball of her foot to face him.

Fl. Captain Koraia, CO

R’han raised an eyebrow, “There were numerous creatures who resembled the mythical beasts of the underworld. They were the minions of the kidnappers, who attempted to abscond with the baby.”

“We pursued and ultimately recovered the baby. I also believe we terminated one of the kidnappers. Although I have some doubt as nothing is guaranteed without a body.”

Just then a communique came in from the Cyrano.

=/\=Lt. Legen to Athena, the Cyrano has the warp core intact. Ideally it would be nice to put it back aboard, being that you aren’t going anywhere without it. Having an engineering team ready would be good, and I have some crew aboard as well that need to get back aboard.=/\=

-Lt. Orvos Legen, CE

At about the same time a message was sent to R’han. A program he had set in motion had born fruit as was now recording that there were two identical life signs aboard. Two Liam Madisons… one in Transporter Room One, and another leaving the Main Shuttle Bay.

There was a momentary pause.
