Va’rek looked sidelong as Jess gave a fry to Stark, unconscious of one of his sharp brows rising in what was probably consternation. He took a sip of brandy and popped a piece of fried vegetable matter into his mouth, perking up at the mention of a game. “I have never played billiards…” The Vulcan replied. “I have played poker…”

“Poker,” Stark said quietly. “Interesting, for money or …?”

The Vulcan quirked a brow at the Caitian before answering. “I have never played for monetary gains, though I am told it makes the game more appealing.” He glanced around at the others. “It is an excellent way to learn control of your facial expressions and body language.” Va’rek looked at Jess, paling ever so slightly at the thought he’d not paid nearly enough attention to his own expressions and body language recently… Who knew what she thought of him now…

“Do you count cards?” Stark inquired politely.

Ah, and here they were talking about poker. A game Orvos often times excelled at, given his ability to read younger people. Being as old as he was, it was easy to see how youthful every person on the ship truly was, even if they didn’t admit it. They all made similar mistakes, and it was often the mature who would catch it. Orvos was far from perhaps ‘mature’, however he had enough wisdom and age to carry him through.

He quietly observed the conversation as it continued. If they chose to play, he was ready.

A bemused smirk came over Jess’ features as she listened to the discussion between the two. “Come on, you guys, this is a lot of talk and no action,” she broke in with a grin. “Pick something and let’s do it. I’ll kick your butts no matter what it is.” Her comment was clearly in jest, although there was definitely an undertone of sheer competitiveness behind it.

Dr. Lemann

Stark’s eyebrow shot up again, then he deliberately lowered it and raised the other one. “With a statement like that, I think you should choose the contest. I’d rather take the chance at, how did you put it… “kicking your butt” at something you’re really good at”.

It took all of the maturity that Jessica had gained in her years to not waggle a finger at Nightstalker’s animated eyebrows. While she managed to keep that motor response under wraps, the amused smirk dancing across her features was quite prominent. “Oh, but that just wouldn’t be fair, Commander,” she commented with a shake of blonde hair. “I’m secure in my ability to kick your butt at either billiards or poker, so the choice is yours.” She couldn’t help herself as she winked playfully and then nudged her original companion with her elbow. “Well, what do you say?”

Dr. Lemann

Stark laughed a little, something that was rare and for those who didn’t like the sight of sharp canines sometimes a little disturbing, “I think I’d like to try billiards, I’ve never tried either but I’d like to think I’m a quick study”.

He glanced at each in turn, and then both his brows rose in unison in a very Vulcan expression of pleasant surprise. “I believe Billiards might be a good decision…” Va’rek began, turning his eyes back to Stark. “and No, I do not count cards. However, I can do math quite well.” This was another of his subtle jests. The Vulcan was beginning to feel almost as if he were part of a group now. It was an interesting experience. His eye returned to Jessica where they probably stayed a little longer than they should’ve, but he covered that by pretending to be surprised there was still Brandy in his tumbler, and taking a sip.
